decent room power outlet in bedside light (super!) Nice cleaning staff Easy access to downtown Super expensive internet Room is sort of depressing in design, decor. Somewhere someone would meet a dark fate in a Twilight zone episode.
I like the fact that it's conveniently downtown in Chicago. Where all the big shopping stores are and nice restaurant are. Everything needs to be updated. And they charge for WiFi.
I think this place is perfect for someone who is a tourist and doesn't plan to stay inside your hotel room all day. I went with my girlfriend and we both found the price and location just perfect!
It was a fantastic hotel! While the room wasn't large, it was up to date and clean. Services were fantastic and the staff was friendly, helpful, and informative. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will absolutely stay here again.
hotel should provide breakfast.
Location, Location Location and the price was better then other hotels in the area. Room was outdated, bathroom was smaller than an airplane restroom.
Pleasant staff. Great location. Stained and fraying carpet in hallways. Tiny bathrooms. No amenities such as in room fridge or continental breakfast. Loud air conditioner unit.
The location is the one you want. It's close to whatever you wanna visit at Chicago. Staff is really courteous, the room size is OK, the roof terrace is really nice. Again, this is mostly about the location which is the best in town. Nothing I actually disliked, but the hotel is in serious need of money to go through a much needed renovation. Once they do this, the price won't be the same tho.
Location The hallways had hole in walls, tears and tons of stains in carpeting. Needs major upkeep. Only thing good is the location. Paid 15$ for fasted speed internet which was supposed to be 8mbps it closed in less Then 3mbps
Beds were comfortable Staff prompt and friendly It was dirty---floors dirty, wrappers on the floor, cereal on the floor, carpet torn in areas, pack n play had crusted food on it.
The cafe attached was nice and the lobby was comfortable. I found the staff dismissive and disorganized. While being checked in they willingly allowed other louder parties to cut in front of me which I thought was rude and not good customer service. Also some staff didn't believe I was staying there and almost didn't allow me to access the elevator to get to my room. It didn't feel very welcoming at all. They also charge for WiFi and the rooms they show online do not match their rooms in person. Each room has to be updated to the same standard. The room felt like it was kinda falling apart, not well maintained at all. Very disappointed.
The location was great, comfortable. Not a lot of facilities but in city and I didn't need them. Great value. Comfortable bed. Carpet completely worn in hallway. Paint peeling in bathroom. Bath floor a little sticky.
alltid rent, kjempe beliggenhet i forhold til shopping, mat osv. hyggeligere personale i resepsjonen.
Central - on the Magnificent Mile
Stort sett det aller meste, det beste var beliggenheten og service. Rommet og badet kunne med fordel vært litt større. Ellers ingenting.
We wanted to be close to Navy Pier and we were!! The suite was clean and functional and quiet once the door was shut. The hotel is massive--I had no idea. And if you have a fear of heights (as I do) it is not for you: the suites open onto a huge atrium space. Check- in was easy and there was no check-out. In fact, I was told that if I needed a receipt that I needed to get it through booking.com (I found that odd). There is no personal service, yet they do manage to serve breakfast and a cocktail or wine to the hordes quite efficiently.
Located close to shopping and conference centers Amenities are average
Friendly staff and clean facility No complaints
Nice hotel, casual and comfortable. Great breakfast. Very convenient to Navy Pier. Would definitely reccomend to friends and would stay here again.
Stayed here Dec 12-14, 2014, this was our 2nd time staying here due to close proximity to Navy Pier's Winter Wonderland. Last year the Manager's reception offered better appetizers, seemed to be a bit cheaper this year. Staff is wonderful and room was really clean. We had an issue with the thermostat, it was almost 80 degrees the whole stay. The kids love it here, it's really family oriented. They seemed to like swimming in the pool better than Winter Wonderland, they made several little friends during our short stay. Will probably be back next year, we love it here.
Not convient. Poor service
Loved the convenience to attractions and activities downtown, and really enjoyed the cooked-to-order omelets in the morning. Watching the chef was great! I didn't care for the decor/style of the room floors; looking out from the hallway it reminded me of a prison or a housing project. While I enjoyed the stay, the room, and the service, none of it was worth the price I paid. Way too expensive.
Enjoyed the room and the overall layout of the room.
Very good location Hotel wasn't nearly as nice as other embassy suites I have stayed at.
Great location and comfortable rooms; breakfast was an awesome surprise in variety and quality Room service was slow, rooms not super clean and could definitely do without the lobby dance music during the day when kids were napping
Staff was very helpful and we were able to get a later checkout upon our departure, which was nice and allowed to kids to swim for a bit before we left. Check in and out was easy, and parking was easily accessible. The price on the all inclusive Disney kids on Demand TV package I order did not reflect what was charged to my bill. It was only a difference of $2.99 and ultimately not a big deal, but still, I feel as though you should be paying what you are quoted. Also, being that it was a holiday weekend, it would have been nice if breakfast was open until 10 as it is on the weekends, but I get the weekend vs. weekend schedule. The lines were a bit long by the end of breakfast and early breakfast is always hard to do with my kids. But again, not a huge deal in the whole scheme of things. We will definitely be back.
Staff super nice Lines for breakfast n drinks but breakfast spread was huge!
Location, location, location! A great hotel for a short break in Chicago -it's very close to Michigan Avenue (1 block) as well as restaurants, bars and nightlife. A really great all round hotel. I would definitely stay here again and would certainly recommend it! Nothing too bad. Just to be aware that it's under renovation, so the facade isn't as attractive as you would expect. But don't be put off, the rooms are beautiful and luxurious with all mod cons.
Close to great retail stores No dislikes
The staff was terrific and our room, the only renovated one so far, was ideal. NA
The most thing I like here is the location, which is very convenience. Also, their front desk service is good~ I'm not satisfied with its room service, I ordered hot milk and they sent me the cold milk. Besides, the price of their room service is not worth from my view. So, just don't make room service, or you will be disappointed with its bad taste and unbelievable bill.
I really enjoyed how close it was to everything. The employees were very helpful. I wish the price of the room included breakfast. There wasn't even complimentary coffee offered in the lobby. I had to pay $2.50. There was a coffee maker in the room but it just isn't the same. Get rid of the coffee makers and have pots of fresh coffee available in the lobby.
The staff was excellent and very helpful.
The room was clean and extremely comfortable with a modern decor that I like. The location is fantastic. None
Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful clean rooms. A sense of safety and security.
Location was excellent. Rooms were modern and comfortable. Noise from the ambulances and construction. Crappy attitude from bar staff on balcony.
Location Loud, 1st night people shouting 2:30 am in the corridor, 2nd night wake up service in person knocking the doors, once no refill of coffee pads, never replacement of bottles in the bathroom (shampoo etc), before check out I wanted to get ready for my long trip back, but the room service had started cleaning and I found everything misplaced, the bathroom under water, cups on the carpet, no apoligies
The hotle is really good. And the location s the best thing the hotle have. The staff were friendly and the resturant down in lobby were amaizing, The bathroom shawer were bad. The water presure was so weak and
The beds were nice and the rooms were very clean. The staff was okay, very effective. I liked the showers and fluffy towels. Good view. The window in my room was missing the safety piece that prevents it from opening all the. A 21 story fall may have adverse consequences to the curious child. For me it wasn't a huge deal, I don't have a kid that's going to fall out a window, but it does show a lack of attention to detail. I also noticed the exterior of the building wasn't as clean as other hotels.
Location No comments
The hotel is in a great location. We could walk to the Art Museum/CSO Hall as well as to the Magnificent Mile. Navy Pier is a long, but doable walk as well. SleepNumber bed is super. Linens and pillows, comfy. The Herman Miller desk chair is a nice touch. The hotel is not responsible for the construction in front, but it is inconvenient and unattractive.
Great location! Housekeeping was very attentive and room was fresh and clean each day.
Great location! Short walk to shops, parks, river/lake and transit! Lots of sirens go off at night but if you turn the fan on you can sleep much better!!!
Valet parking was very expensive for the weekend. We could've chose self parking which was around the block but did not know that until we arrived. We chose the valet parking because we were exhausted from the drive into the city. You have to really look for the hotel driveway to pull in off of the street in unfortunately we arrived on a Friday evening and it took us three or four times driving around the block in bumper-to-bumper traffic to get in.
It was a great hotel, great rooms, very clean, and a pretty nice view of downtown Chicago. All of the staff was amazing and any question we had was answered. If you drive there are tons of parking garages right in the area that are in walking distance. We decided to walk everywhere since it was all right there. We loved our stay and will stay at the Hilton again.
Location of the hotel was excelent however there were some workings in the street outside but this situation I think was favorable because less traficc in the street. No claims at all, we stayed at the hotel only a short time, most of the day we were outside but the hotel was confortable and the personal polite.
Fairly close to everything we wanted to do We had a smoking room because we occasionally smoke and it smelled badly of cigarettes, we had to go and buy spray air fresheners for our room
I was a tourist there for vacation Staff
Loved that Weber Grill is downstairs! Although staff was polite they didn't seem to genuine. Clare was great!
Went up to Chicago to catch a craft beer festival. The hotel was very accommodating, helping us take our many, many, manyou cases of beer and two tiny bags of luggage to our room. With the convenience of in and out parking and even providing plates when our pizza was delivered made our short stay amazing. Would definitely stay here again City garage parking is sooooooooo expensive!
We couldn't get HHonors points at all because we booked through Kayak.
Parking is $55 per day
We loved our stay at the doubletree, complimentary cookies and the front desk, the bed was lovely and the location is great, only few blocks from the magnificent mile. My husband woke up at night due to the outside street noise (cars&sirens) I personally did not hear it. I guess it depends how light of a sleeper someone is.
The pool Big yellow stain on carpet Bathroom light wouldn't stay on and flickered the whole time Wasn't able to get ready in bathroom and made showering very interesting to say the least We would have changed rooms but we were running late to my birthday plans Complained in the am and they said they could do nothing bc I didn't book they them directly. I was very upset how the manager handled the situation We spent $240 on a one night stay for my birthday and cookies were offered but with attitude
Very convenient location, walking distance from the Magnificient Mile, the Wrigley Building, and Millenium Park. Many restaurants nearby, and bagel/coffee shop near the hotel lobby. Nice outdoor pool. No free internet in the room. Noise from repairs (drilling) in neighboring room(s) every morning (weekdays).
The wait time for an elevator was excessive at 9:30AM Sunday morning. I was on the 6th floor waiting to go down to the Lobby. 6 cars stopped, all full, over the span of 10 minutes. I finally got on a car that had an open spot, but was going up, and then rode it down - meanwhile the car stopped on 7 other floors. It seems to me a more "fair" algorithim could be employed to have an elevator car stop for someone on the 6th floor. If it weren't for the amount of luggage I had to carry, I would of course taken the stairs.
Seems there were some residents on my floor - sounded like families that did not have a home. They were noisy, loud, baby crying and unattended, See above.
location, price are great room was very comfortable, but not as clean as we would expect, in fact cleanliness was our only "ding".
AWESOME LOCATION MAYBE A LITTLE OUTDATED
Stayed one night and paid $76.00 dollars to park
This hotel has an amazing location being just a couple of blocks away from Michigan Ave and being on the lake side near Navy Pier. Having a WholeFoods kitty corner to the hotel was quite handy. The hotel staff was incredibly nice and attentive. They do an excellent job of keeping the place clean. We had such a wonderful time that we decided to stay an extra night. Not having a mini fridge in the room was a little inconvenient.
Great location, comfortable beds, fridge in room. Service was good. Not overly comfortable, very minimalistic, breakfast was mostly cured meats, cheeses, cereals, and fruits (no eggs, oatmeal, etc), room felt a bit cold and sterile for our style.
very friendly, super clean, nice location $50 a night parking
Great neighborhood. Felt safe walking around. Clean, comfortable hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Loads to do within walking distance. The cabbies didn't seem to know where the hotel was. They tried to drop us at the Marriott which was a block away.
Me & my friend had the pleasure of staying at your hotel for a long weekend getaway. From check in to check out your staff & facilities were very pleasant & accommodating. I just want to point out that the bar staff, Brian & Izzy went above & beyond to make us feel welcome! Once again, a big thank you to the AC Marriott for doing a great job!
What a fabulous find this little hotel is! Superb location, funky decor with a rock 'n' roll theme, and prices I couldn't beat after a day's searching online. Sure, the rooms are small, but the renos are modern and neat, and there's great music in the lobby, the bakery and the Berkshire Room. Definitely where the cool kids stay ... even if the cool kids are over 50!
Really neat place, fantastic location and price
It was a different hotel experience. For example: They delivered fresh coffee in a thermos in the morning versus making a cup. Noisy hvac unit.
Modern, clean room with access to restaurants: some that claim to be the home of deep dish, Eataly, and some other nice but standard places. Cute cafe in the lobby with good coffee and pastry's. Close to subway, and not too tricky to get to from airport. I was surprised to see vending in the room: the mini fridge was stocked with drinks, and there were cans on pressure plates that if you moved, you bought the items. It made me feel nervous that sitting at the desk if I jostled a can I'd have to pay $5. I had them take all of the vending things out of the room, which they did quickly and with no fuss. Probably something you want to check on if you have a problem with alcohol, have kids in the room, or just not in to having impulse purchases in your room. Also, they are a decent hotel, but all of the copy on their marketing materials and their look seems like they are trying way to hard. Show, don't tell. If you have to tell us you are cool, you probably aren't. That said, it is a fine hotel - we can like you the way you are.
A very cool place. Location was great and the rooms were clean. Nothing
Comfy room. Excellent attention to detail. Super cool hotel bar. I have no complaints.
The proximity to great eateries, bars and fun activities cannot be beat. The staff was pleasant and accommodating.
Quiet, quirky, nice beds, great location. Loved the robes and free, delivered to the door morning joe. View of a wall in my room, but no street noise either! A bit pricey
The front desk agent was very helpful, even though Expedia had not forwarded my reservation. She checked my bag and took my phone # and said that they would call when my room was ready... The room was clean and I like the way it was decorated. Nothing
friendly and convenient ,
we were delightfully surprised to find that the hotel had a free "shuttle" when we were headed out for dinner. It really wasn't a shuttle …. more like a very nice, well dressed young man driving a nice sedan to our location. A great touch! The doorman was awesome as well. Very personable, approachable, and helpful.
The location of the James is ideal for visiting the River North area. The room is clean, reasonable size, and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. Even on the 17th floor, there was a lot of street noise. We could even hear the saxophone player at the corner of Rush and Ohio! We also had a charge for the room honor bar that was added to our bill even though we did not use it. Watch your receipts!
First. Stay there and was given a free upgrade
I really loved/liked and grateful we were able to check in early when we arrived early in the morning after our flight. I think it's well worth it especially because we were staying only one night. For my taste, I liked the contemporary classy decor and atmosphere. The atmosphere in our room felt romantic. The king size bed and the comfort of the bed and linen was awesome for my taste. I especially liked the room my friends were staying in. They had a little movie projector room. We paid the same price but they were staying there a little bit longer than we were. But I did like their room. Staff was very friendly and informative when asked about recommendations of transportation and location of places nearby. Me personally, and just my opinion, we weren't too fond of the shampoo/conditioner and body wash scents.
Great location. All the staff friendly efficient nothing too much trouble . Room spaceous and clean. The best hotel we've stayed in.EXCELLENT. Would definately stay again.
The art collection was great. The noise traveled into the rooms from the hallways. It was very easy to hear my neighbors going in & out of their rooms in the morning.
The hotel was luxurious, however there was a problem with the room card/key it didn't work on 3 different occasions, I had to get help from the concierge. I missed the deadline for reserving a room at an advantageous rate for the Spak/Schechner wedding and paid a lot of money to Hotwire for my room. No deal with them... I did have a delux room though and would recommend this hotel to those who can afford it. I inquired about the use of a swimming pool at the hotel and the desk folks told me I could use the pool at the Sheraton across the street. Wonderful! I did and felt relaxed and refreshed after my swim. The card/room key didn't work on 3 different occasions.
location, room and staff room internet access was slow
great staff with helpful info.
The location is great. Just a block off of Mag Mile if you are there to shop. Trader Joe's across the street if you want to buy snacks/water for the room. Close/walkable to downtown (Loop) and River North neighborhoods. The staff was great and my wife loved the bathroom products (shampoo/conditioner/body wash) THIS HOTEL IS NOT 5 STAR. Kayak has it listed as 5 star and it is not. Closets are very small...only a couple of feet wide. Not a lot of drawer space. If traveling on business, not easy to work in room.
Staying at the James in Chicago was a real pleasure. It is a very nice hotel to come home after a long day.
I've stayed at several nice hotels in Chicago and this is by far my favorite. Very comfortable, tastefully decorated, incredible A-V/home automation controls. This was the perfect home-base for a multi-day business trip. The atrium also had a splendid Sunday brunch with string quartet. Couldn't be better
Beautiful room. Inpecable service
EVERYTHING, THE SERVICE WAS THE BEST AND THE BATHROOMS LARGE AND BEAUTIFULLY DONE. NICE TOUCHES EVERYWHERE! NOTHING
Really enjoyed how friendly everyone was towards us especially since we were a young couple there and the staff told us good morning and everything each day and always had a smile on their face I can't really say I didn't like anything about the hotel or service. The only thing was it was a little expensive for us. Other than that everything was excellent
I would guess that most people who gave this place a positive review have never stayed at trump. For the same price trump offers a vastly better experience and much more comfort. The gym and spa at trump make this place look like a spa from rural Cambodia. Rooms were an ever so slightly better version of the Conrad. No pillow menu. No glacier water. No espresso machine in room. No microwave or stovetop with dishwasher( all present at trump). And no cake with gold leaf on it for my birthday!!!
Great location across from Saks and neiman marcus. Hotel gorgeous, bright, elegant in public areas, very comfortable and luxurious room and bathroom
Location was fantastic and newly renovated older tower was lovely. Pool and health center were fantastic When we parked in the garage, no one offered to help us with our luggage. The parking fee was astronomical at $67 a night. I was charged $400 plus dollars for a mini bar that we never touched and it was obviously from another room as the names on the requests were not us. One employee said she would have to investigate and it would delay our checkout. NOT GOOD! I called the front desk again and spoke to someone else who immediately removed it
Great location Dirty bathtub, lights out in bathroom of room 541
This was my first time here and it was AWESOME! I would defiantly recommend. The staff was very friendly and welcoming . The rooms were beautiful and clean . We had a nice view as well . The beds were super comfortable as well made the weekend awesome. I didnt like that i wasnt informed ahead of time of a deposit , since i booked it online and it gave me a total , i was thinking that was the total . I was then informed i would get my deposit back the next day and it did not hit my acct for three days . I just dont like to be misinformed. My last complaint would be that the bathroom doors were kinda small.
Room was small but clean. Bathroom was nice. $65 for parking? Really?!? I guess I could have parked in a ramp nearby, but didn't want to deal with the whole schlepping the luggage back and forth the the city...
Location Ease of Check In and Check Out View overlooked the back of the building. Room was right next to elevators, but it was very quiet.
Great location,cleanliness, comfortable beds.
Nice bar and restaurant in the hotel Very slow elevators, mini-bar costs were outrageous. No one wants those any more. Guests would like a frig and microwave. Cost of room was outrageous for how mediocre the rooms were. The parking is a total rip off at $67 a night.
Lack of comfortable lounge area in the bar area. Years back there was a very ample lounge area for either for couples or larger groups. Too bad they eliminated it. I am also glad the re-opened the pool early.
The location was top notch in a historic building- it was pointed out during our architectural boat tour! Our room's windows were inches from a brick wall which made me feel very unsafe. No notice that it was an interior rom when we booked. In addition, we could hear the wedding reception going on below. Sure this hotel has plenty of rooms, but do you really want to chance it that you will be placed in one without a window?
Location, staff, great pool and work put facilities. We were able to walk where ever we needed to go. Architecture is beautiful. Great place to stay. Comfortable rooms, nice view. We loved our stay and will go back. Need a better coffee maker. Small microwave in room. Fridge for your own soft drinks. Mini bar was very expensive
The deluxe room appearance
This hotel has a long history and floor plans are quirky but the rooms are remodeled and modern. Our room in the historic tower had a 31st floor view that happened to have windows facing 3 different directions for a 270 degree view from Michigan Avenue to Lake Michigan (I think it was the only one on the floor with that expansive view). Minibar charges when we didnt use anything is always really annoying. I would have hoped a nice hotel like the Intercontinental wouldn't have this issue.
I arrived 2am and there was no reservation and the company never told me there was a problem with my card. Spend until 4am getting another reservation for next day and then arrived and there was no reservation again. They ruined my entire business trip. had to spend half day looking for another hotel. The first night Marriott accommodated me in a room that was not what I expected. At least had a place to sleep. They were kind and very helpful, but the room I got was not what I expected. But It wasn't hotel's fault was getaroom.com fault.
It is such a big hotel I found it chaotic especially with several different events going on. Crowds of people, lots of noise. Just too big a apace for me!
Please get Keurig coffee pots in each room
Great location, great staff No fridge or microwave
Full size mattresses sold as queen size
The view from the room was very good The staff was excellent. The place had a very modern feel and look. The bed was very comfortable I would go back. The room did not have enough outlets. The room was small for the cost.
This hotel is exactly what you'd expect from a stay in Downtown Chicago. Imposing structure, bustling atmosphere, and lofty prices. The central location couldn't be beat and the view provides you a look at the city no matter which direction you face. Room was clean and modern. After some initial difficulties, a new room was provided and sorted out with a credit to be used with breakfast (delicious breakfast, but expect to be charged the Chicago price for it). The price for staying directly on the Magnificent Mile shouldn't be surprising. The lobby was constantly occupied and persistently loud, which also is indicative of a stay in Chicago. The initial room assignment seemed to belong to another individual as there appeared to be clothing in the closet and a suitcase laid out when the door upon a very brief inspection from the cracked door. After informing the front desk, a new room was quickly assigned...but only one of the two keys ended up working. After our final trip to the front desk, we were in better shape and the breakfast the next day was delicious. The room was by no means spacious, but exactly in what you'd expect from Chicago standards. Don't forget you'll be paying for parking, which is at least simplified by the ability to charge to your room.
Everything!!!! Cost of parking.
The best part is that the Merriot is in the "heart of the city". Offsite parking.
Great newly updated rooms and incredible gym that puts many Health Clubs to shame. Room Svc leaves a bit to be desired but luckily they're located in great proximity to many great restaurants.
Location Old, small rooms, poor plumbing. It's an embarrassment for Marriot. Don't stay here
Location and decent sized, clean rooms. We booked day of stay and got a good rate. I would actually rate it a 3.5, but I didn't have that option. Extremely uncomfortable, stiff sheets.
Brenda served us for breakfast most days. She was a the best. Always attentive friendly. Took care of us well. Our last day we had a different waitress and our order wasn't right, we couldn't get her attention and had to get a manager in order to get our check. When you go for breakfast in the fabulous restaurant, ask for Brenda. Loved the green drink with Apple, spinach and ginger. It was really good.
The staff was very helpful and freindly. The room was clean and very nice located near a lot of shopping. Our stay was very enjoyable and we will stay here again soon.
The accomodations were comfortable, the hotel beautiful, the location convenient, the staff extremely knowledgeable, friendly & helpful. Not really. A common suggestion that I have is in relation to the lights at the nightstand. Most places I've stayed, including this hotel, have both lights for double beds in between them. It would be better to have a light on the far side of the bed so the guest sleeping in the other bed is not disturbed by the late-night reader (me!).
Close to shops at magnificent mile Pool was small and not kid friendly. A 16oz pop was $4 plus tax at hotel store
Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Courteous and friendly staff. Location is excellent for shopping. I definitely would return to stay again.
The location was within walking distance to Everything. The hotel was very comfortable.
The people at Wyndham were so helpful making sure everything was perfect for us! No.
The air conditioning. Our room was not ready at check-in. The bed skirt was torn and stained. The in-room movie played very poorly. The staff was unfriendly.
Service was amazing. Location was awesome!
