Very nice updates to room and bathroom. Comfortable bedding, drumBAR on the 18th floor, and great location. Room was extremely hot and the temp could not be adjusted. The room was also very small but worked for our 1 night stay.

This is a Kayak review- not a hotel review. I booked my travel a week in advance and with 2 days notice I received a call that I no longer had a reservation and there was nothing that could be done. It left me scrambling to find a room and I had to pay 40% more than expected because I never really had a reservation. Will never use Kayak again.
Hotel was clean and staff was exceptionally friendly. Doorman was extremely helpful. Donut shop downstairs was delicious and convenient. The location was decent if you're willing to walk about a mile to anything you'd like to see. Room was a little small and elevator was extremely small preventing us from getting our stroller in if anyone else was in the elevator.
The location is excellent for whatever activity of interest in downtown Chicago. Attentive and courtesy staff
Great location with a nice hotel design. The drum bar and the bakery were nice perks. Its an older building and that is very obvious. The AC is questionable, the elevators are small and take quite a while, and if you want normal pillows you need to request them.
Great location just off the Magnificent Mile easy to get to just with everything you might need to downtown. When was nice but needed a few small maintenance items repaired other than that it was a great place to stay.

Large rooms and bathrooms. Plenty of fast elevators. Great location for the north end of the Magnificent Mile. More attention to detail could be provided to the cleanliness of the shower area. Several areas of black mildew in the grout of the shower wall.

The rooms were nice, but our room had not been properly cleaned. There was an empty wine bottle in the trash, a stain on the carpet, and dirt on the bedspread. The location is great for exploring the city. A block from Michigan Ave, the beach, and Rush street. The customer service was not good. We waited 30-45 minutes for our bags to be brought up to our room and finally had to go down to get them. There were two bellmen standing in the lobby doing nothing and our luggage was just sitting there. As mentioned the room was not properly cleaned which is never a good feeling when you are staying in a hotel. I requested a late check-out and was immediately told "No due to someone else staying in our room and they needed to clean it". He then asked what room we were staying in. He again said it wasn't possible as someone was staying in that room and they would need to clean it. When we checked out I forgot a brand new shirt I bought while staying there. I rarely hang things in the closet and had done so since it was a new shirt. I realized this the next day and called and again was given horrible customer service. They told me it was not in the room and that nobody stayed in that room the night before so they couldn't help me. Obviously, the maid who cleaned that room took it, but they accepted no responsibility for that. Not to mention they couldn't give us a late check-out due to another guest needing the room. It's a shame the customer service was so bad because it is a nice hotel in a great area of the city.

we were traveling with our toddler. the hotel crib came with complimentary johnson & johnson toiletries and a stuffed bear. the room was clean, comfortable and spacious enough to be tolerable with a toddler in the same room. the bathroom was spacious, in excellent condition and well-appointed. we were on a high floor and had a great view of the city. it would've been great to have iPhone charging docks/stations. we forgot to bring one charger.
Comfortable, elegant, convenient excellent accomodations. Food very good but somewhat overpriced. The hotel tower is very tall and our initial room on the 40th floor was very noisy in the wind and rain storm. The swaying was not noticable but the sound of creaking wall and ductwork was uncomfatably loud. The staff did move us to a lower floor to a large apartment suit which was very quiet.
The bed is gorgeusly confortable Many problems with shower, room cleaning, front desk attendece, etc.
Hotel has great location, very nice accomodations. There was broken glass in the bar and I cut my finger pretty badly on our first night at the hotel. Although hotel staff was very nice and they did call security, I thought they could have done more in way of compensation. In hindsight, I probably needed stitches and other than call to my room by the manager (who had already left by the time we got back to the room), they really didn't even follow-up.
Location! And they left a small treat for my child every afternoon.
They had absolutely no trace of our reservation on arrival, but after some spirited discussion more than made good the upheaval.

Beautiful. Comfortable, luxurious. Staff assistance was hit or miss. Very frustrating. Some staff was very helpful. Others were not to the point of carelessness or rudeness. At this hotel I had expected service to be exquisite. It was not. For the price there's other hotels with better service who value their customers more highly.

Great location in the heart of the Mag Mile/Gold Coast. Staff is friendly and helpful. My kids loved Parker, the house dog. The pool and locker room areas were wonderful. Minor detail, but I couldn't change the spray pattern setting on the shower head. I just switched it over to the hand held and all was good. Like I said, minor detail.
The hotel was very luxurious, clean and quiet. The bed was amazing and the views from the room were very pretty. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

Location was great. Booked and paid for a King bed -- received a double bed. Hotel offered $40 off dinner at their in-house restaurant. Could not offer any other room accommodations - nothing with a view, not a bigger room, and not what I ordered and paid for -- a room with a King size bed. Slept uncomfortably most of the night. Separately, went to breakfast in the hotel and the windows were very dirty.
Whinin walking distance to downtown shopping and attractions and great restaurants, walked to Chicsgo Art Institute to take in Van Gough exhibit. Parking too expensive
Location and old world elegance Several elevators broken, tea room not kept up-my chair had a big hole in it. Chairs looked dilapidated, carpet worn, menu insert pages barely legible (bad photo copies). Most pages had faded writing in 3 of the four menus. Also-3 menus did not include alcoholic beverages

We loved the location and the welcoming and helpful staff. The atmosphere is elegant. For a small extra cost, we opted for the Executive Room with access throughout the day for a light breakfast, snacks during the day, and hors doerves during cocktail hour. It's view is spectacular and all but the tables which are too small, we enjoyed immensely and visited often during our stay. WiFi in your room is an extra cost and not included in the price of your room.
Room was clean. No recreational stuff no pool no sauna nothing it was boring.
An architectural gem in downtown Chicago with old look but kept updated with modern amenities. It shows it's age sometimes but that is the charm of it. Just know that there is no lounge access for Hilton Gold members which is strange for a property with a lounge.
not much Room was 'nasty' for a 4 star hotel. -broken soap dish on the floor -faucet handle was not fastened and fell. -really dirty carpet -old building. poorly renovated. bad paint job in the hallways.
The Drake is a Chicago classic. A bit old, but very luxuries and very, very beautiful. The excellent location and nice staff delivering outstanding service make the Drake the place to be. A bit dated, and almost impossible to roll your own luggage. Unlike most hotels with marble floors, The Drake has the thickest carpet imaginable. Also, the rooms are small for the US (and the money) and you will pay a lot for a view. However, this is the oldest and most desirable location that The Drake sets the standards for all of the other Chicago luxury hotels.
We chose the Thompson Hotel for its location and value on Kayak. If I was traveling alone on business it would have been a better choice. They are super accomaditing allowing us to check in at 11:00 am without any problems. They also have a great online precheck in service. There is a Starbucks next door and good restaurants all around it. The precheck in service is a great idea however, it is as if you actually request something like an extra blanket or extra towels which were questions on the precheck in system they do not fulfill them. The elevator system requires you to use your room key to get up to your floor however, there is only one reader per elevator and it was virtually impossible to get to it when using the elevator. So many people were talking about riding the elevator up and down trying to get to their floors. The showers were never hot just warm regardless of the time of day. The A/C was all over the the place, hot / cold. The room refresh was seriously below average and actually just a really bad bed make up with fresh towels. They basically missed at the attempt to be a chic boutique hotel. There is no real identity to this property.
We go downtown every Christmas and this was the first time we stayed here. We loved it. Friendly staff, wonderful accommodation, and great location. We will certainly be back.
Nice Interior Design. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. This is a much better location than other hotels I have stayed at further south. We took a very nice walk north to Lincoln Park. It is a beautiful neighborhood and does not even feel like you are in the city. Too pricey for me to use other than business. I did not need or use "facilities" so that is the only reason I did not give that an "excellent" score. We were not impressed with the breakfast food. We were very pleased with our lunch at Gibson's across the street.
We loved everything about it. From the very beginning (checkin) till the very last second before we left the hotel. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. The Concierge made arrangements for a boat trip on the Chicago River. Housekeeping kept our room in perfect shape. We had a room on the 21st floor which had the perfect view towards the chicago skyline. It was awesome. I gladly recommend to visit the Thompson Chicago and will for sure also book on other occasions other Thompson hotels. Thank you for this very wonderful and perfect vacation, Thompson. nothing!

comfy bed, great location, nice lobby. Front desk lady was not very helpful. Toilet smelled like sewage. They called me from front desk to tell me someone was at my door from hotel personnel when I had privacy sign on...that woke me up...What kind of "privacy on" is this?

The beautiful view of lake Michigan. Close proximity to great restaurants and shopping. Nico Osteria restaurant within the hotel was excellent. The room was beautifully decorated, very comfortable bed, reading light ( unexpected), and huge bathroom and shower. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. One of the late afternoons we needed to call for extra towels,since our room had not been cleaned,and we had been out all day. I do realize that this weekend was a home Bears foorball game and was very busy.
The Thompson Hotel Staff were amazing, very friendly and accommodating. We were upgraded to a corner king suite as it was our wedding night so that was a pleasant surprise as well. Overall wonderful experience. Would definitely go back. Nothing!

I liked almost everything about the hotel. The room was great, the day staff was great, the location is better than several in the area we stayed at in the past. Room amenities were also very good. The female employee who checked us out in the morning acted liked she was bothered by having to leave the rear office to deal with us. She was sullen and sighed and didn't even look up as I talked to her. She is NOT a good employee to have at this wonderful hotel.
This was our second stay at the Talbott. It has a great location, the rooms are large, and the staff is welcoming and efficient. We particularly like the cozy parlor areas with fireplaces. There was nothing we did not like.
From check in everyone was very nice. We were going for a short trip to another city in the US and were going to stay again at Talbott before heading home. We didn't want to carry one bag & a set of golf clubs so asked if we could leave it behind. Talbott was very understanding and stored it till return. All hotels do it but the attitude of the staff at Talbott made the difference. ..

When I had a problem with the professionality of one of the staff members, the General Manager took action fast and worked a satisfying solution to the problem. The only thing I didn't care for about this Hotel is that it did not offer a shuttle to the airport or my convention.

Charles Nancy was very rude and put out by helping me. Also, our keys did not work twice and the cost of the room service is quite ridiculous....$7.00 for dry cereal, plus 18% gratuity pluse $2.50 delivery?! Maybe if the staff was friendly and the service was better, but no way would I ever pay that for a bowl of corn flakes.
Toilet flush was EXTREMELY loud. And we could hear the toilets from other rooms as well.
Centrally located and friendly staff. Great size room and amenities for the price. Housekeeping could have been better. Room not cleaned until 5 pm and cleaning was substandard. Wet towels left in room and dirty coffee cups. Beds too hard. Also, teenage kids were given a handicap accessible room. We were not told about this until we saw the room. Didn't need to take up that kind of room, but after they had already unpacked, didn't want to change rooms.
Spacious, very well equiped suites with fridges, microwaves and two TV's - very handy when the World Cup clashes with Wimbledon. All furnishings and fabrics in rooms are of the highest quality. Almost all the staff were very friendly, extremely polite and most helpful. Great location for the Chicago tourist. Swimming Pool needs a refurb, now looking dated and tired. Air-con in gym and workout rooms not working therefore uncomfortably hot. Internet connections in Rooms too slow and no weekly rate for using the facility.
The facilities are good. The location is excellent. The parking is outrageous. $66/day but I think that's Chicago. One of the hotel staff was a bit rude, but the others more than made up for his behavior.
The hotel was a block away from the lake and a block away from Michigan ave. Our room was very clean and spacious, and kitchen fully loaded. We were traveling with our dog. The staff was very helpful and supportive. The hotel provided a dog run just around the corner. There are always people walking around, so I never felt afraid of late night or early morning walks with my dog. There is a small park a block away nice place to take her. The front desk was helpful and check-in was quick. We also enjoyed breakfast very much. They never let anything run out. The food was warm and plentiful. I will stay there again and again.
We stayed 5 nights at the Residence by Marriott and will recommend it to all our friends and family. The location can't be beaten for touring Chicago. The suites are large and beautifully furnished with everything you could need. The complimentary breakfast buffet had everything you could want and changed daily. We didn't even make use of the midweek happy hours and free dinner foods. Staff was very helpful. O.K., it wasn't perfect: the elevators are kind of slow.
Hands down, the BEST place I've stayed in a long time. I once was a housekeeper and then a room inspector at a beautiful resort property in FL. and am ultra fussy about cleanliness. I always wanted people to feel as though they were the first guests staying in the room. To this day, I can't help but do my usual white glove inspection when I enter any hotel room. Everything in our room, from the kitchenette to the living area and bathroom was spotless (no dust on the tops of artwork frames or stray hairs on the bathroom floor or even water spots on the glass shower enclosure). I was truly impressed. It was photo shoot ready. I'm looking forward to staying there soon for my husband's 40th birthday this month. I'll take advantage of the pool & fitness room this time. There is also a convenient guest laundry facility. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Chicago.

Stayed here during the renovation of the rooms which will be fantastic but not until later in the year. In the meantime, construction noises during the day prohibit sleeping in and rerouting of the water pipes cause a 15 minute delay in hot water. The response from the staff with the water complaint was, 'sorry, try turning the water on when you first get up'. The rates are the same as the Hilton Suites and only $16 less than the Drake Hotel. The advantage here is the breakfast, social hour and the free internet, which is why I'll stay the week but it should be at a more reduced, discounted rate. The location is perfect, though at the north end of the MI mile. Good luck.
Booked the week before Thanksgiving because of low rates at all Chicago hotel that week. The Residence Inn was an outstanding value and the location is convenient to shopping.
Awesome location just a block from Michigan Avenue & Lakeshore Drive. We arrived at 10 am and we were able to check in because our room was ready which was a huge plus! Convenient valet parking and staff was friendly and helpful. We had a the 2 bedroom suite with kitchen which was perfect for 6. Would most definitely stay here again!
We loved the convenience of being close to downtown and staying in this top quality, beautifully maintained hotel. The staff were courteous and helpful. The rooms were spectacular. The hot breakfast was extraordinary. Seriously, I cannot imagine anything better and we will certainly stay here again when we come to Chicago next time.
I got a two-bedroom suite. It is quiet and spacious, but the bathroom is small (shower/tub combination and toilet). The bathroom vanity is outside the door. I was there for 3 nights and while the staff did the beds, they didn't change the sheets (I looked for a sign to let them know I wanted the sheets changed on the second day, but found nothing), and shampoo, conditioner etc were sparse. I asked for more when I was about to be out and they did give me plenty. The daily buffet is a nice feature, but could benefit for more variety. The staff is generally nice and helpful. In all, my stay was enjoyable.
I didn't realize how expensive parking was in the area, so I'd come back and use public transportation for my visit. Very convenient for walking and busses to area museums and shopping.
I stayed the entire week -- Monday - Friday. The hotel staff that I ran into were very friendly. The hotel put out water and dog bones out front -- which I thought was a nice touch given a lot of neighborhood dogs (and guest's dogs, too) were always around. The only *very* minor nitpicks are as follows: * Monday, I found coffee filter still in the machine from previous guest * Not owning a microwave, I was not able to figure out the machine, and there were n obvious instructions. But they promptly sent up a staff person who quickly showed me that I first had to press the non-obvious 'Type II Cook' button * Thursday, they forgot to replace the microwave popcorn and the coffee * My bath towel was always washed no matter where I hung it
