Excellent hotel that is well priced and located.
Location is excellentl. Amenities of hotel are up to date and staff were helpful and cordial Hotel is nearly a hundred years old. Room was on the small side but that is to expected.
The room was small, but comfortable. It had everything you could want, including a mini frig. The location was great. Within walking, or public transportation, to everything downtown San Diego has to offer. The valet parking was expensive.
I was surprised to have to pay a mandatory fee for services that I did not use or want. I thought that was very unfair of the hotel.
Nicely restored hotel with character. Restaurant/bar is very good with open, upbeat ambiance. Bed was excellent quality. Room was pleasant. We would stay here again. Easy walking distance to many restaurants and club area as well as to the harbor with the Midway Museum. Got in about 9:45 p m and the hotel restaurant had closed early. Although the walk to the restaurant area was easy, there are about three blocks of homeless sleepers which was a bit uncomfortable.
Nothing This is by far the worst hotel I've ever been in! The room, (505) was so small that I think they had to build the room around the bed. It was so small that the bathroom had to have a sliding door. I truly don't believe a normal door would be able to open / close. The air conditioning didn't work and the overall area seemed seedy. Numerous bailed bond companies with likely clients in the area. When I asked about the area the clerk advised, "Just stay on Broaday."
Very friendly staff, the location was perfect. Valet parking was great. The room was smaller than expected, but was well equipped.
I loved everything
Nice lobby with friendly staff greeting us upon arrival. Lots of charm with short excerpts posted throughout highlighting the history of the building. Room was comfortable with all needed amenities for a place to stay. The purpose of our stay was the city. This room gave us a comfy pillow top mattress to rest and recharge each night with complimentary water keeping us hydrated. Workout facility was nice and hardly crowded during our stay. No complaints and would gladly stay here again. Rooms were small. There was no view including limited sunlight through the window plus the "green" lighting made it so you had to turn every light in the room on when getting ready. Bathroom was small and no vent :-/. Closet didn't open all the way due to being obstructed by the bedside table (again, room was small). I'm being as honest as possible with these negative, but the purpose of the room was met and the pros far exceeded the cons during our stay.
Amazing staff. Overall very nice hotel. Dust. This is the the only minus.
It's location is perfect. Walking distance to pretty much everything you would want to do downtown; gaslamp, marina, horton plaza, etc. Room was perfect for me and my girlfriend. Staff was very accomodating. Parking.
The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the bed was comfortable. The room was very loud. We were able to hear in the most precise detail what was going on in the room next to us (including our neighbor's conversations and television preferences). We ask to be moved, but the second room was equally as bad.
Elegant and plush surroundings, very comfortable bed, room was lovely with great amenities even though I had a single room. Great power breakfast meal!
It was a wonderful expeeience from the moment we walk in to the time we left. It's a beautiful hotel with a wonderful staff. The Spa Suite was a little plain in appearance for a luxury hotel but the therapist was excellent.
Great bed Could hear doors closing and thin walla
Enjoyed our stay with our 5 yr old. Very courteous staff, local amenities, and close Seaport Village and other site seeing entertainment. Now a favorite, will definitely stay again in the near future.
Cool vibe. Great room and decor. Easy check in.
The hotel is a historic landmark located near the Gaslamp district in downtown San Diego. The location is great for shopping, site seeing, and night life. The staff of the hotel was superb! A fantastic back drop for a romantic getaway.
The room was great and service was excellent. Very noisy on the 4th floor exterior room all night long on a weekend.. I requested a room with a view and got a view of the rundown buildingf to peo next to us and listene.
We always enjoy staying at the US Grant. The staff is friendly the restaurant and bar are wonderful the location is perfect. The rooms are nice the beds are comfortable. The pillows and I would ask not to stay facing fourth Street again.
Location Beds were terrible and room was small
The staff was friendly and courteous. The entire stay was pleasant and we were well taken care of as guests.
The rooms were big and the decor was very nice. The staff were great and the location was perfect for visiting San Diego. The charge for parking is too high. We parked on nearby streets for a tenth of the cost.
Many user experience design issues. Rain shower is hard to wash hair in, no ability to angle it at all. No tub and nothing to prop up for to shave legs. No door on shower. Door on bathroom was not a real door and didn't close all the way. Awkward! Certainly not romantic!! Not enough hooks to hang towels. Not enough towels, only gave us 3 for two people. Hairdryer was super cheap, would expect at least a normal one if not a nice one. Nowhere to plug in anything at the desk. Front desk staff seemed very forced/rushed.
The location to Gas Lamp District was perfect! The cost of overnight parking.....
Comfortable rooms and beds. Super friendly staff.
The decor was very modern Staff was rude, the room was very small. Pool was closed for a wedding on Saturday, they told us we could walk six blocks to their sister hotel to swim, not interested. Wedding party was loud, disruptive. When we spoke to the manager to express our concern his response was "NO, the noise is not coming from the wedding party on the 4th floor." We called Kempton Hotels to express our concern, they said a manager would call us back. We did not ever receive a call back. We will not be staying at a Kempton Hotel in the future
Great help with the dog! We had a great time!
Had booked a skyline room and upon arrival front desk told us they had overbooked and put us in a huge skyline suite. Courteous staff, awesome room with a great view and walking distance to all the nightlife in gas lamp. Will be coming back soon
Hotel is in a great location, bed was nice, as was the decor. Last two nights there, the lobby smelled like a stadium bathroom, staff was not helpful upon checking in, the front door to the hotel has to be the most awkward door I have ever seen on a hotel. Also, instead of having an actual door on the bathroom, they have a sliding glass door. Just a word of warning, if you have a knock at the door and someone is in the shower be sure to pull the door closed because you can see straight into the shower from the entryway. That is poor planning and inexperience. I would not stay here again nor recommend to anyone.
The atmosphere was upscale and classy, felt great staying at a great hotel. Room service was a little steep (typical...) but the food was delicious - the staff recommended some foods that were spot on. Room decor was great, modern and classy. Hardwood floors made it feel a little upscale. The bathroom is just a total mess. Shower head position is too low for anyone 5'5" or taller - requiring you to use the head manually (why???). Bathroom door is a sliding door but doesn't exactly provide too much privacy since you can see through the cracks - perfect angle if you want to watch your friend on the toilet... Iron was awful - took way too long and was just cheap overall or needed replacing. Cleanliness was awkward - arrived at the hotel (6pm) and was told our room needs to be cleaned. We arrived in the room, saw the hardwood floors were soaking wet (slipping lawsuit anyone?) and found residual items from the previous guests. Would be nice to upgrade those 2003 radios to the new iphone 5 or usb players...
Location and staff bed uncomfortable, shower rain head, video/TV system slow/
Everything offered and available to guests. The rooms are small, but beautiful Size of room for price paid
Staff was very friendly Overpriced for what I received.
Comfy beds Clean rooms Pool area is nice Fairly modern Unexpected construction noise from the hotel that started before 7am. Very strange bathroom door Inconsistent level of service and friendliness raging from super friendly and nice to border-line rude Expensive parking
As mentioned, the location is excellent for walking around Little Italy and the Gaslamp district. The staff are friendly and helpful. I like the showers as they are quite spacious and can function as a mini-tub. Overall it was a clean and comfortable environment. The room was aligned with the light rail. Every time a train left the adjacent station, the conductor tested the horn. It was too much noise for the hotel not to give us a heads up. Two stars for this "oversight".
comfortable beds and spacious rooms. Kind and friendly staff, prompt response with broken thermostat. Kind and courteous repair workers. There was a few (2) pieces of trash on my bed when I got there (a piece of tissue and a cap to a water bottle). The thermostat dial was broken and I immediately had to call for a repair. My room was directly over train tracks that ran ALL NIGHT LONG!
The staff was very friendly and helpful since we didn't know our way around San Diego. The room was very comfortable and beautiful. We would stay there again. There were add on charges.
The fitness center/spa is amazing!! Great location Although location is amazing, was kind of loud
Location was perfect, service was exceptional. David, who was on the front desk when we arrived, was outstanding. He gave us great recommendations for restaurants and other activities in the hotel and the surrounding area. Housekeeping was outstanding, with turndown, chocolates, And room set up with lighting and mood music upon return at the end of our days out. Concierge was very helpful with information and ticketing for tours. Great pool area on third story patio deck. One of the best hotel experiences we have had! We recommend it highly. Street Car noise on the side of the building where our room was located.
Check-in was efficient & friendly. Great wifi. Excellent pool. This time our room faced C Street - very noisy. Previous stay we faced 3rd Street - much quieter.
The room was clean and very comfortable Sirens!
The customer services was great. The hotel was beautiful and well maintained. My room was a little be dusty, which affected my allergies. However, the dust was manageable.
The decor was a little dates but very opulent...really beautiful chandeliers in the lobby accented with elaborate holdings! Our room was not well cleaned from previous stays. We encountered the following: 1. Old pack of cigarettes in the closet 2. Large stain on one of the robes 3. Opened and half consumed water in the mini fridge (as a part of the $15 resort fee you receive 4 free water bottles in the mini fridge) 4. Dirty ice bucket containing a good amount of water/alcohol remains 5. Stepped on a very sharp furniture tack that must have come loose and was on the floor by my bed
Friendly staff, good location, etc. Balcony is not too big. Take one step out and that's all you got....other than that, cool hotel to stay. Not hip, but cool.
I really liked coming back to the room st night and finding the lights dimmed, the bed turned down and nice relaxing misic playing. This was a very nice touch The hotel had a musty smell that was unappealing. The concierge and some of the people at the front desk were not very friendly/helpful when I asked about place to get a good fish taco and hoe to get to old down. Made me feel like I was shaking silly questions and bother.
Very classy, beautifully appointed hotel. Staff helpful, polite and wanted our stay to be as comfortable as possible. Our room was lovely and the turn down service was appreciated - especially the music playing and the low lighting when we returned in the evening. I agree the C street side of building a bit noisy, but would not deter me from staying there again when we are in San Diego. The valet was very prompt to deliver our car and 2 young men helped us with our luggage. We had room service breakfast.. Very, very good...Thank you for a lovely stay...
Historic charm. Quite a bit of street noise gets into room.
Great Location, walking distance to the downtown area & and just 15 minute walk to the Coronado ferry! Friendly Staff n/a
When I called to ask a simple question about the parking. A snobby person answered and it sounded like they were forced to talk to me. He wasn't genuinely friendly and didn't make me feel comfortable to stay at your hotel. You Need to improve on bettering your customer service.
Very convenient to the Gaslamp Quarter and walking distance to the Convention Center, Navy Pier and the Coronado ferry. Beautiful building and nice updated rooms.
Great location and near Gaslamp!
They went above and beyond when I requested to have a surprise bubbly in the room before we got there. No parking lot.
Spacious suites, friendly staff, great breakfast, good rates.
Friendly, courteous and helpful staff. Modern decor and spotless rooms! Wonderful view and comfortable bed. Parking garage is poorly designed, elevator setup is confusing (tho it adds some security), fridge didn't work.
The pool was closed. The door was boring. Nothing to do at the hotel. Basically walked in and out of the hotel and paid $30 each day for parking. There's much more fun and intriguing hotels else were. I was born and raised in San Diego and visit often in hotel stays. This definitely isn't a vibe I'd like to stay in again.
For the price, this place is great! Beautiful views from our room on the 26th floor. You won't find views like that anywhere close to this price range. A few minor cracks in the walls in the bathroom. Room kids gives off a slightly outdated vibe. Walls are quite thin. We could hear our Neighbors talking all evening. $29 a night for self parking. $35 for valet.
We stayed here on our mini honeymoon before we go on our big honeymoon in May. The staff made sure to give us a corner room view of the city. The hotel employees were very friendly There was no refrigerator but there was a microwave. Why would i need to warm up my food in the microwave if i didnt have a fridge. Wish they would include a complimentary breakfast. Rooms were outdated wish they looked more like the lobby area. Overall comfortable relaxing stay with my husband
I really like the recent decor updates The service seems lacking compared to the last trip we took there, the rooms were needing some repairs and carpet needed a good shampoo.
Great location in the city Very bright rooms Nice accommodations for traveling on a budget Large rooms with separate living room and bedroom Entrance elevators only go to parking and reception then you must take a separate elevator to the rooms.
Cool room, nothing from the ordinary but useful in group settings for the larger room. Security came up twice but he was very understanding and agreed on what volume was right. Location was great and close to many places in walking distance. Comfort of hotel was ok. No towels in the restroom. Also vending machines suck! Some times they take and sometimes they give! Definitely would have appreciated some water at a dying thirst lol iwfu
The room was very spacious, I loved it. I also loved how many mirrors were in the room, many hotels lack mirrors, but this place has that covered. I didn't like how small the shower was. The central air was not working in the common areas, which I assume is not something that happens all the time, so I am not putting too much emphasis on that, however it was excessively hot even riding the elevator or just walking down the hallways.. Enough that I walked at a more rapid pace to get outside faster.
The indoor pool was okay, the rooms were big Carpet was stained, felt outdated,
The lobby and check-in area were simple, but nicely designed. There was a large handpainted calendar behind the concierge desk showing which music acts were performing over the course of the month. It was informative and artistic. The lobby was clean, modern, and inviting as was the attached Deck 12 restaurant and bar. The front desk person was friendly. Since we were there on a Saturday night, leaving Sunday, we were able to take advantage of ample street parking for free. Our room was located directly across from the elevators. Very loud when sitting in a chair in the living room space of the suite. The room was reasonably spacious, but it had not been updated in quite some time. When we entered for the first time, we were overwhelmed with an almost toxic level of chlorine funmes. (Obviously I am being overly dramatic as i don't think we were in any danger.) The bathroom felt very small and tight despite being a good size. There was a tub and seperate shower, but even my wife could not take a showewr without hitting her elbow trying to maneuver in the stall. It was that small. In fact, I hadto open the shower door in order to move my arms when drying off. When asking the guy at the concierge desk for breakfast spots, he was not very knowledgeable. Turned out he was actually the bellman and the concierge was busy. Would have been good for him to start off with that info. There was no gift shop where one could buy snacks or water. Our only option was to use the vending machines and if you wanted drinks, you had to go several floors up to find a machine that sold them.
Beautiful views, comfortable beds , very spacious suite overall value for the price is excellent. would definitely stay again no refrigerator even after calling and requesting one 2 different times before arriving.
The room was very cute and comfy also very clean. The location was perfect, close to Gaslamp which I loved. I didn't appreciate that you had to pay for parking per day it's ridiculous since I'm a guest and that should be included. Plus charching for additional guest is also ridiculous.
When we first checked in we were told we had to pay $15 for parking, which was not listed anywhere on the site. Then, she put us in a room that was extremely hot!!It was cooler outside then inside. I had to call the front desk and demanded a cooler room.
This Best Western Motel (BW) is about 1 mile from the Gaslamp District. The area is less than desirable, no easily accessible restaurants, and very noisy. Rooms are small old, and dingy. Manager was unpleasant. Poor value for $$; will not ever return.
The location.every thing was close..cabs easy to get food and shopping great reach. Pushed to hard on when they wanted to clean the room instead of waiting..
Friendly and helpful staff; fairly good walking distance to many parts of San Diego, including Zoo/Balboa Park area/gaslamp district/etc. Quiet area Fair number of homeless persons begging at certain parts of town when returning to hotel.
Cute place. They did their best giving it a garden feel with all the plants they had. The breakfast was good and the rooms were clean. Not a fan of paying for parking but I understand it is downtown. Also was woken up a couple times by sirens and honking, but again, it is downtown.

The person who checked us in a the front desk was very knowledgeable and provided us with a great itinerary for how we should spend our days in San Diego.
The flora The pay for parking was $15.
The front desk, was so welcoming when we checked-in, it made our stay enjoyable from the very start. The room was clean & comfortable, and the included breakfast was very plentiful and satisfying. No
The customer service was really great. hotel employee were really nice. It was just kind of scary that crack heads went up to our hotel door demanding us to open up because there's an iPhone located in our room and told us to open up before they bust the door down and get us. Legit scared for our lives.
Everything clean on order. Freindly and nice staff. Hotel looks excellent for groups on extended stay.I will recommend it to family or freinds staying at San Diego. I like the location but The homeless near the hotel just next door made us felt unsafe at night when you were walking on the street. That affect hotel location ratings.
nothing did not stay the entire night, inn keeper decided to call the cops and kick us out at 3am without a reason, even the police couldnt file a report
Does not have adequate parking one the main lot is full it's a chore to get to the overflow lot. Housekeeping didn't come by till the evening. A/c unit in the room was old and made a vibrating sound
I liked the staff and the very clean queen suite. I would definitly stay here again if I come to San Diego. I was just ok with the regular 2 full beds room. The location of the hotel made it easy enough to walk to the light rail to get around almost anywhere. My reservation was for the queen suite, not a regular room. This was for my first night in San Diego. I think the bill I paid should have had that reduced to reflect that one inconvenience. Otherwise, there was nothing I would have changed with my stay there.
Complementary breakfast items were not fancy but got you going in the morning. Bed was worn out or not good quality. Room smelled like smoke. TV hutch made it hard to get around the room.
After booking, couldn't tell if the payment was paid in full, or not billed until checkout
Location A bit noisy due to planes and parking lot echoed throughout complex
nothing Paper thin walls. loud air conditioner . loud water pipes. furniture was beat up. stains on bedding/sheets
Didn't like anything. Nothing special. Didn't not like anything.
Centrally located, hard wood floors, friendly staff, nice view Hard, noisy bed, tiny parking spots, check in online said 2pm but staff said 3pm, shower drained very slowly
-location -old place -the smell -air port shuttle was late 1 hour -I think it's not safe to have the doors on the street -break fast was ok - inter net connection was poor! -they clean the room but they did not change the towels
Parking fee was not included and it was $15/night
the room was clean the staff were nice paying 15.00 to park would have rather they added it to the price, than as a side charge.
well i got in early and the gentleman at the front did everything he could to get me in my room. I also locked myself out twice and they helped me out and i didnt feel like i was bothering anyone.
good location right in the city. very friendly and helpful staff. continental breakfast not very rich, like in many other hotels too.
May be the location Every thing in that hotel it's the dirtest hotel I have ever found
staff is friendly, convenient location to park and downtown shopping areas, facility, noise, smell, discomfort, ridiculous overpriced
Mainly the price. Staff was very cordial. No services - no ice machine - no telephones - very little parking - dangerous access in and out of property - room much too small
Floors needed to be swept. The door can be easily broken. I had to put a chair up against to door to close properly. Toilet bowl moved.
Friendly staff. Women up front with glasses was extremely helpful and pleasent. TV was stolen from room. Smelt like cigarettes/drugs/chemicals. A homeless man knocked on my door at 3am and tried to sell me Methamphetamine!!! Then threatened me when I refused!!!! Scary experience!!!
I liked the fact that it was located in downtown San Diego. it is close to a must try hodad's if you're not from around. Also it's close to the Gaslamp. So mainly location is what i liked. I didn't like that there were a lot of homeless roaming around. I got lucky with parking but it is very limited. You could also hear footsteps from above. It is located in a busy street so sometimes you can hear cars go by.
The staff was friendly. Easy access if you have a car. It needs to be updated, was expensive for what you get. Won't stay again. I don't think this place should be on your site, it's not a good value!!
The location was great just down the street from gaslamp for a great price The beds were not very comfortable
