The atmosphere was upscale and classy, felt great staying at a great hotel. Room service was a little steep (typical...) but the food was delicious - the staff recommended some foods that were spot on. Room decor was great, modern and classy. Hardwood floors made it feel a little upscale. The bathroom is just a total mess. Shower head position is too low for anyone 5'5" or taller - requiring you to use the head manually (why???). Bathroom door is a sliding door but doesn't exactly provide too much privacy since you can see through the cracks - perfect angle if you want to watch your friend on the toilet... Iron was awful - took way too long and was just cheap overall or needed replacing. Cleanliness was awkward - arrived at the hotel (6pm) and was told our room needs to be cleaned. We arrived in the room, saw the hardwood floors were soaking wet (slipping lawsuit anyone?) and found residual items from the previous guests. Would be nice to upgrade those 2003 radios to the new iphone 5 or usb players...
Comfy beds Clean rooms Pool area is nice Fairly modern Unexpected construction noise from the hotel that started before 7am. Very strange bathroom door Inconsistent level of service and friendliness raging from super friendly and nice to border-line rude Expensive parking
Everything offered and available to guests. The rooms are small, but beautiful Size of room for price paid
The decor was very modern Staff was rude, the room was very small. Pool was closed for a wedding on Saturday, they told us we could walk six blocks to their sister hotel to swim, not interested. Wedding party was loud, disruptive. When we spoke to the manager to express our concern his response was "NO, the noise is not coming from the wedding party on the 4th floor." We called Kempton Hotels to express our concern, they said a manager would call us back. We did not ever receive a call back. We will not be staying at a Kempton Hotel in the future
Had booked a skyline room and upon arrival front desk told us they had overbooked and put us in a huge skyline suite. Courteous staff, awesome room with a great view and walking distance to all the nightlife in gas lamp. Will be coming back soon
Many user experience design issues. Rain shower is hard to wash hair in, no ability to angle it at all. No tub and nothing to prop up for to shave legs. No door on shower. Door on bathroom was not a real door and didn't close all the way. Awkward! Certainly not romantic!! Not enough hooks to hang towels. Not enough towels, only gave us 3 for two people. Hairdryer was super cheap, would expect at least a normal one if not a nice one. Nowhere to plug in anything at the desk. Front desk staff seemed very forced/rushed.
The location to Gas Lamp District was perfect! The cost of overnight parking.....
Location and staff bed uncomfortable, shower rain head, video/TV system slow/
Best hotel staff I have interacted with in a while. Very very helpful and easy to work with . Justin was awesome! Also enjoyed: the Apartment style hominess was comforting and the boutique style added some flare. Nice that pool was heated, cable TV, good location for downtown. I would visit again. Not-so-Hot: the shower got too hot, or too cold.... Room was very small and not laid out in a way to take advantage of best space possible. Pool was so small and NO JACUZZI. And no views.... No docking station for iPhone 5 or USB outlets
Staff was very friendly Overpriced for what I received.
Comfortable rooms and beds. Super friendly staff.
Great help with the dog! We had a great time!
Great bed Could hear doors closing and thin walla
It was a wonderful expeeience from the moment we walk in to the time we left. It's a beautiful hotel with a wonderful staff. The Spa Suite was a little plain in appearance for a luxury hotel but the therapist was excellent.
Elegant and plush surroundings, very comfortable bed, room was lovely with great amenities even though I had a single room. Great power breakfast meal!
The rooms were big and the decor was very nice. The staff were great and the location was perfect for visiting San Diego. The charge for parking is too high. We parked on nearby streets for a tenth of the cost.
The staff was friendly and courteous. The entire stay was pleasant and we were well taken care of as guests.
Cool vibe. Great room and decor. Easy check in.
Location Beds were terrible and room was small
The hotel is a historic landmark located near the Gaslamp district in downtown San Diego. The location is great for shopping, site seeing, and night life. The staff of the hotel was superb! A fantastic back drop for a romantic getaway.
We always enjoy staying at the US Grant. The staff is friendly the restaurant and bar are wonderful the location is perfect. The rooms are nice the beds are comfortable. The pillows and I would ask not to stay facing fourth Street again.
The room was great and service was excellent. Very noisy on the 4th floor exterior room all night long on a weekend.. I requested a room with a view and got a view of the rundown buildingf to peo next to us and listene.
The location was great The rooms were cramped and the carpet was sticky
great location peeling ceiling paint in room, rusted electrical connections in bath area, blow dryer wasn't working and wasn't repaired, queen bed was the size of a double
Nothing Horrible experience.
Hotel is right in the middle of everything. Perfect location. I didn't like that they charge you for parking even as a guest.
Convenience to the Gas Lamp District and Convention Center. Staff was friendly. Room was dirty and not well kept. Old elevator that was very difficult to enter and exit. Towels were stained and dirty. Lights stopped working in the room. Rusted electrical connections. Would not choose this hotel again. 1 to 2 stars.
We were there on a Tuesday night. We had booked the night before and got a great deal. The staff, Michael in particular, was awesome. Free shuttle from the airport, clean rooms, a beautiful roof. We couldn't have asked for better.
Cleanliness of the rooms, rooftop access with 360° views, 24 hour restaurant, classic elevators. Sharing a classic elevator with a housekeeper and her cart. Very tight fit.
Nice place, great price, friendly service. Would definitely stay again Nothing
very convenient to everything. everyone was super helpful and nice. liked the complimentary shuttle. the rooftop "lounge" was very nice the air conditioning could've worked better but other than that, the hotel was just what we were looking for.
staff was nice an friendly. Cool bar in the lobby. In the heart of all dt san diego the night life. The shuttle to 40 minutes to get to the airport. Which is only 8 miles away.
Staff was very helpful when item was left in room, free shuttle to airport Operating elevator door/cage solo with luggage was challenging
Location was great! Staff was friendly I enjoyed the staff alot. Rooftop was nice and had a beautiful view. Beds are very comfortable. Room were to small. I couldn't even open the door all the way to get in without it hitting the bed. The price was to high it should have been should have been less expensive.
Very classy, beautifully appointed hotel. Staff helpful, polite and wanted our stay to be as comfortable as possible. Our room was lovely and the turn down service was appreciated - especially the music playing and the low lighting when we returned in the evening. I agree the C street side of building a bit noisy, but would not deter me from staying there again when we are in San Diego. The valet was very prompt to deliver our car and 2 young men helped us with our luggage. We had room service breakfast.. Very, very good...Thank you for a lovely stay...
Location was perfect, service was exceptional. David, who was on the front desk when we arrived, was outstanding. He gave us great recommendations for restaurants and other activities in the hotel and the surrounding area. Housekeeping was outstanding, with turndown, chocolates, And room set up with lighting and mood music upon return at the end of our days out. Concierge was very helpful with information and ticketing for tours. Great pool area on third story patio deck. One of the best hotel experiences we have had! We recommend it highly. Street Car noise on the side of the building where our room was located.
The staff was very friendly and helpful since we didn't know our way around San Diego. The room was very comfortable and beautiful. We would stay there again. There were add on charges.
Friendly staff, good location, etc. Balcony is not too big. Take one step out and that's all you got....other than that, cool hotel to stay. Not hip, but cool.
The customer services was great. The hotel was beautiful and well maintained. My room was a little be dusty, which affected my allergies. However, the dust was manageable.
comfortable beds and spacious rooms. Kind and friendly staff, prompt response with broken thermostat. Kind and courteous repair workers. There was a few (2) pieces of trash on my bed when I got there (a piece of tissue and a cap to a water bottle). The thermostat dial was broken and I immediately had to call for a repair. My room was directly over train tracks that ran ALL NIGHT LONG!
The decor was a little dates but very opulent...really beautiful chandeliers in the lobby accented with elaborate holdings! Our room was not well cleaned from previous stays. We encountered the following: 1. Old pack of cigarettes in the closet 2. Large stain on one of the robes 3. Opened and half consumed water in the mini fridge (as a part of the $15 resort fee you receive 4 free water bottles in the mini fridge) 4. Dirty ice bucket containing a good amount of water/alcohol remains 5. Stepped on a very sharp furniture tack that must have come loose and was on the floor by my bed
The hotel is beautiful! The staff was helpful and prompt. There was someone there right away to take our luggage to our room, and our room was ready upon an early arrival. I'd stay there again! After checking out, the valet didn't help us get our luggage in our vehicle. $30.00 a night I felt it should have been better service.
I really liked coming back to the room st night and finding the lights dimmed, the bed turned down and nice relaxing misic playing. This was a very nice touch The hotel had a musty smell that was unappealing. The concierge and some of the people at the front desk were not very friendly/helpful when I asked about place to get a good fish taco and hoe to get to old down. Made me feel like I was shaking silly questions and bother.
As mentioned, the location is excellent for walking around Little Italy and the Gaslamp district. The staff are friendly and helpful. I like the showers as they are quite spacious and can function as a mini-tub. Overall it was a clean and comfortable environment. The room was aligned with the light rail. Every time a train left the adjacent station, the conductor tested the horn. It was too much noise for the hotel not to give us a heads up. Two stars for this "oversight".
The room was clean and very comfortable Sirens!
Check-in was efficient & friendly. Great wifi. Excellent pool. This time our room faced C Street - very noisy. Previous stay we faced 3rd Street - much quieter.
We stayed for a baseball trip. The hotel was very close to the park and convention center. Plenty of restaurants and nightlife nearby. Breakfast was very good! The temperature on the shower kept fluctuating. We were given a parking pass and found a ticket on the car the next morning.. Still waiting to make sure that is taken care of by the hotel.
Nice clean little place, an easy safe walking distance from the San Diego Conference Center with a particularly nice breakfast spread. I've stayed here several times.
Small-ish room, but free Wi-Fi, free breakfast, and only a couple blocks from the Gaslamp District. The bed was comfortable, the staff were attentive. There was a fridge in the room for leftovers. No complaints. I'd definitely stay here again.
We were able to walk to everything we wanted in gaslamp from here. The staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was good an extremely convenient. $20 for parking seemed like a lot. Also breakfast was good but the coffee was aweful.
I was not satisfied seeing as how they tried to charge my card after they said they wouldn't and also charge my mom's card when my mother was the one who already paid for the room. They charged me an extra 100$ on top of the 100$ my mother put down
The location The room was small. Toilet inside was dirty . Old and not worth the money paid
Not too far walk to gaslamp Dirty, old, so noisy that even with earplugs I was constantly being woken up in the middle of the night by bums yelling, car stereos, and sirens... And I'm a heavy sleeper so that's saying a lot.
I could not have asked for a better location. We were in the heart of gaslamp! The night scene was perfection for all ages and had a wide variety of restaurants, bars, and clubs near by. but by far THE BEST PART was that when it was time to retire for the night the room was very COMFORTable. Not a negative thing to say.
Free breakfast and wi-fi with easy walking distance to convention center and sights at Gaslamp district. Front desk helpful, especially with calling cabs. Rooms were cleaned daily. Small room, but cozy.
I loved it all! That that the its in the gaslamp district, inexpensive and room includes so many amenities .
Only good part is the location and the staff was friendly Facilities are sub par and room was dirty. Entire hotel had a bad musty smell. Definitely not worth the price.
Excellent for the price and location!
Hotel is beautifully appointed, and is very reminiscent of a European style of hotel. Downtown location is convenient to nearly everything, and the area bustles with excitement on weekend evenings. The Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We liked it all.... just be prepared for an active social scene outside your window on the weekends!
location the breakfast
Excellent location, free breakfast on rooftop, suites very comfortable, everything worked.
Location Staff was kinda of rude. Valet was rude and expensive!!
The location was very good for our purposes, business and shopping. The building was interesting. The amenities were a bit lacking (ie. no shampoo or soap in our room). The view from our room was very nice. The breakfast was not good though we enjoyed the rooftop dining. We wonered if something could be done about the noise from the airconditioning/heating unit on the roof.
Guest Services gave us a bottle of wine to celebrate our anniversary & birthday. The room was very spacious and they upgraded us. The location was at the epicenter of the Gaslamp District. Perhaps if we didn't have a baby w/ us, we wouldn't have minded, but the noise from outside was extremely loud until about 3:00am. Again, if we didn't have a baby w/ us, we probably would have been down there but it was very hard to get rest and the baby kept waking up as well. We stayed here with the intention of staying close to the zoo. But this is not a great place for families. Good place to stay if you're planning on staying up late and partying at the Gaslamp District. The rooms had a funky smell too - especially the bathroom. But then again the building is really old.
Comfort hotel situated in the heart of the historic Gaslamp area. Great. -
Very very good hotel I like it
The free breakfast on the roof was a pleasant surprise. The price for overnight parking is pretty expensive. I believe it's roughly the same as any other place I've stayed in the Gaslamp, but it's still a lot.
First room was tiny but was able to move to a suite and very nice. Good location. The first room was a mini suite but was tiny.
Gaslamp Plaza Suites is a very nice boutique hotel. Wonderful rooms and views from the suites. The location is great!
The suit was very good and the staff wer excellent Saturday nights are noisey
It's location is perfect. Walking distance to pretty much everything you would want to do downtown; gaslamp, marina, horton plaza, etc. Room was perfect for me and my girlfriend. Staff was very accomodating. Parking.
The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the bed was comfortable. The room was very loud. We were able to hear in the most precise detail what was going on in the room next to us (including our neighbor's conversations and television preferences). We ask to be moved, but the second room was equally as bad.
Nice lobby with friendly staff greeting us upon arrival. Lots of charm with short excerpts posted throughout highlighting the history of the building. Room was comfortable with all needed amenities for a place to stay. The purpose of our stay was the city. This room gave us a comfy pillow top mattress to rest and recharge each night with complimentary water keeping us hydrated. Workout facility was nice and hardly crowded during our stay. No complaints and would gladly stay here again. Rooms were small. There was no view including limited sunlight through the window plus the "green" lighting made it so you had to turn every light in the room on when getting ready. Bathroom was small and no vent :-/. Closet didn't open all the way due to being obstructed by the bedside table (again, room was small). I'm being as honest as possible with these negative, but the purpose of the room was met and the pros far exceeded the cons during our stay.
I loved everything
Nicely restored hotel with character. Restaurant/bar is very good with open, upbeat ambiance. Bed was excellent quality. Room was pleasant. We would stay here again. Easy walking distance to many restaurants and club area as well as to the harbor with the Midway Museum. Got in about 9:45 p m and the hotel restaurant had closed early. Although the walk to the restaurant area was easy, there are about three blocks of homeless sleepers which was a bit uncomfortable.
Nothing This is by far the worst hotel I've ever been in! The room, (505) was so small that I think they had to build the room around the bed. It was so small that the bathroom had to have a sliding door. I truly don't believe a normal door would be able to open / close. The air conditioning didn't work and the overall area seemed seedy. Numerous bailed bond companies with likely clients in the area. When I asked about the area the clerk advised, "Just stay on Broaday."
Amazing staff. Overall very nice hotel. Dust. This is the the only minus.
The room was small, but comfortable. It had everything you could want, including a mini frig. The location was great. Within walking, or public transportation, to everything downtown San Diego has to offer. The valet parking was expensive.
Very friendly staff, the location was perfect. Valet parking was great. The room was smaller than expected, but was well equipped.
Excellent hotel that is well priced and located.
I was surprised to have to pay a mandatory fee for services that I did not use or want. I thought that was very unfair of the hotel.
Excellent bedding and service Hotel did not have our reservation that we made online. Toilet was not clean when we checked into our room, had not been flushed or cleaned.
it was very central. had a quiet room. hot tub & pool were great very business orientated - seminars & conferences
located very central, bars and restaurants in walking distance, shopping mall close by. Very nice and big room during our stay a conference was going on and you we were woken up at 6 o'clock every day by the noises through the air-con-shafts and thin walls
ı lıke to shopping and restaurants. ıt looks lıke empty and cold it is not like the westin st. fr. san f.
Location, free gym, lent me a fridge, staff very polite Only thr use of frosted glass in room looked dirty
Nice and clean. Looks brand new. Rooms. Hallways, lobby, etc.
Shop & sightsee
Location was excellent for the centre of San Diego and convinient for the shopping area.
Walking distance to the mall. Modern. Fourth floor room facing the circle was noisy.
Proximity to shops and restaurants The floor we stayed on smelt terribly of cigarette smoke and we had to complain before it was addressed. Also, our room key had to be reset 5 times in 3 days and I didn't even carry my phone with me so not sure what the reason was. Was a minor inconvenience, but other than that, was a comfortable stay.
I did not request a handicapped room and I was put into one by mistake. I called in advance before I checked in day-of, someone told me they could change my room when I got there and the hotel was not sold out. 45 minutes later when I arrived, the desk clerk said the hotel was sold out and there was nothing they could do. It was imperative that I have a bathtub due to personal restrictions, but I didn't have a tub - only a roll-in shower that is horrible to deal with and very messy. I was charged $42 for overnight parking in addition to a very pricey room. I won't stay here again.
The price ($99 / night) for the location and the dimension of the room (very usefull with a baby). The hotel and the rooms are old: used furniture, heater not working, stains on the floor, TV remote not working... I guess they will increase their rates once renovated
I love the hotel. Rooms were big & well appointed. There were lots of complimentary options like water, juice, Keurig coffee & tea varieties, wine after 5pm, expresso & treats in lobby, shower, bed, pillows. Room service was terrible, my steak was super well done but lots of excellent restaurants near by.
The reception staff was very helpful.Good room with great bathtub.Very nice breakfast. I had to have a credit card to check in even though i had the full roomrent in cash. They wanted to block 2000 Dollars for a two night stay costing 460 Dollars. The manager was very helpful and we sorted the problem but its still shocking that you have to be in the possession of a credit card to being able to stay at any given hotel
The shower The fact that we had to pay 30 USD per day for parking our car. This should be part of the room for guest with reservation. 60USD is too much for simply keeping your car in the place you are staying!
Bed was comfortable, good size room, clean, nice staff, great breakfast at restaurant, good drinks at night! Pool area was very cramped...people ended up just laying on towels on the cement...not enough umbrellas
Gym was ok... pool rooftop wad excellent. Location to convention center was excellent No drawers in room shower was terrible. ...Just a wand...no nozzle above
Great decor,rooms,location and staff.
Great vibe. Beautiful Hotel. Great staff and service. Loved the rooftop pool. A little noisy. The room was on the 5th floor and there was a frequent rumbling sound coming from what sounded like above us. It made it difficult to sleep. I needed ear plugs.
Top rate friendly staff. excellent accommodations. centrally located. the location, although centrally located was very urban and close to some what appeared to be homeless shelters. I didn't have any problems and it was fine, but I think awareness of surroundings would need to be stressed.
very nice hotel, design, modern, great location in gaslamp quarter, internet free the room is a bit small
The rooms are great and I specifically liked the bathroom accessoires (like shampoo, bath rope et cetera). On weekend-days, their nightclub on top has very, very loud music. I couldn't sleep because of it. They should tell you this in advance, for this price you expect a good night's sleep.
Service, Service, Service!!! Perfect! Justin at the front desk was exceptionally helpful
Very convenient to the Gaslamp Quarter and walking distance to the Convention Center, Navy Pier and the Coronado ferry. Beautiful building and nice updated rooms.
Historic charm. Quite a bit of street noise gets into room.
When I called to ask a simple question about the parking. A snobby person answered and it sounded like they were forced to talk to me. He wasn't genuinely friendly and didn't make me feel comfortable to stay at your hotel. You Need to improve on bettering your customer service.
They went above and beyond when I requested to have a surprise bubbly in the room before we got there. No parking lot.
Great Location, walking distance to the downtown area & and just 15 minute walk to the Coronado ferry! Friendly Staff n/a
Everything clean on order. Freindly and nice staff. Hotel looks excellent for groups on extended stay.I will recommend it to family or freinds staying at San Diego. I like the location but The homeless near the hotel just next door made us felt unsafe at night when you were walking on the street. That affect hotel location ratings.
I stayed at The Keating last year when I was in San Diego for the same event. I returned because I liked the location, the hotel atmosphere, value, etc. The bed is wonderful. The second night I was there, I was awakened during the night by loud bangs, crashes, thumps on the floor, and found I was unable to sleep. This continued from 1-4 am. After I brought it to the attention of the hotel staff in the morning, they indicated that there had been other complaints. I felt, however, they did not act quickly enough to correct the problem.
service, staff are helpful This is a tricky hotel - open shower. Be aware what you are going for.
The staff remembered the guests and were very helpful. Some nights they sent dessert to my room which was a treat. I loved the in room expresso machine - yummy!
Location was ideal for staying in the Gaslamp district. Parking situation was not ideal. Had to park elsewhere for the whole trip.
I liked the modern decor, totally not what you would expect from looking at the building from the outside. The staff was really friendly and helpful. I would definitly come back (without my lil one) I didn't know the room would be so intimate =)
Room was very comfortable and very well equipped. The hotel is located in the centre of Gaslamp quarter which is very noisy area on Friday and Saturday overnight.
Gas lamp district. Lots of history. Close to many restaurants and clubs.
The room Very noisy! breakfast sold as continental, is in reality a paper bag...
The check in was quilt and friendly. Room was beautiful and modern. I love the old with the new. Perfect blend. The curtain between the room and bathroom was the only downside. It made taking showers cold all the time. That is my only complaint. Everything else was great. The curtain between the room and the bathroom.
The room was large and nicely furnished. There was a high ceiling and windows letting in lots of light there was an overhead waterfall shower. There were high-quality stereo speakers. The people at the desk were responsive, providing advice about restaurants and other places to go and arranging cab rides and restaurant reservations. All in all a very pleasant experience. We would definitely go back. The hotel is in the middle of the crowded gaslamp district, which resulted in some noise in the evening. I scarcely noticed it however my wife was more aware of it. It did not interfere with our sleeping.
From the moment we arrived the hotel staff were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The deluxe double room was amazing - very big (bed was huge!) and kitted out with all the mod cons one can ask for - we really were impressed and felt settled straight away. The location is brilliant - a few steps from the Gaslamp District full of restaurants, bars and some shops - great atmosphere during the day and especially at night time. The hotel was excellently decorated - so modern and luxurious for a 4 star hotel. There was noting we didnt like, but the breakfast was a little basic - a breakfast bag served to your room each morning consisting of a cereal bar, yoghurt and juice. Whilst a cooked/continental breakfast in their restaurant, adjacent to the hotel, would have been nicer, the bag was always delivered at the time requested which was a nice touch. And lastly, a small note re the deluxe double room e on Pent House Level - the shower is a walk in one, situated in the room, so if you are travelling with anyone other than your partner, it may not be the most practical room!!
The people were very nice. The free coffee was awesome. The hotel did not have my reservation. Said it was lost. Also, since the rooms are over a club, it is loud. Their showers offer no privacy.
I like it on general, their breakfast was nice and the staff is pretty helpful and nice Did not like the the soap and the room location only it's not facing the street
Great location, right in the heart of downtown. It was a block away from a CVS and close to other grocery stores. Extremely close to the Padre's baseball stadium and about a mile or two away from the USS Midway. For the price and location it can't be beat. I chose a shared room with 4 other guys. Our window faced the street. I don't drink alcohol so it was a little hard to get some sleep. We either had the window closed to help muffle the noise and were really hot, or we had the window open and had a lot of outside noise.
The room was clean, bed was comfortable, bathrooms pretty well maintained, pleasant staff. Basic breakfast but I guess that is standard for hostels, at least it was something. Not too far from public transportation. HI San Diego took care of my needs while I was checking out the city for a couple days. More counter space in the bathrooms would be nice. Several of my toiletries fell in the sink/on the floor because there is not much room for a girl to spread out her things. Also their power source is weak or something. I had to sit around and wait forever for my phone to charge at the end of each day and I tried several outlets in the building. It would have been nice to have an outlet by my bed so I could charge overnight.
