Clean, nice staff. Great location. Strongly recommended!
It's clean easy access hotel No food available in the afternoon (not even a sandwich)after our arrival.
The location, the staff, the room decorations, the room service, the quiet at night and particularily the breakfast. hi speed internet, Rather small elevators [to be expected in a building of that age], A/C a bit undersized.
Have stayed there before and was 'welcomed back'. It is ideally located, overall a very pleasant hotel. Excellent staff.
Great location. Beautiful old hotel. Concierge excellent. Breakfast very expensive. Staff was not well informed of the hours of restaurant.
Location of hotel Comfort of bed was spolt by squeaking everytime you moved in the bed!
The location was perfect because our goal was to be able to visit the three major art museums within walking distance to our hotel. Parks, restaurants and shopping were also right there. The concierge was excellent in making flamenco arrangements for us. When I called ahead to check our reservation, the clerk answering the phone said that we would need to stay in one queen size bed and that to have twin beds would cost 500 euros per night. When we arrived, the registration clerk upgraded us to two twin beds at no extra cost.
Staff was unfriendly
The calm atmosphere and the beautiful interieur. Luxurious but still nice and comfortable. The price of two drinks was about the same as the price of one flight ticket back to Oslo . . . .. .
its close proximity to museums and sites. the high cost for internet usage.
Great bed and amazing pillows....very quite despite its central location. Quite expensive breakfast (buffet) for what is offered.
Close to museums Over priced! Everything is outrageously expensive. Staff is not interested in the guest. No room facilities for heating water for coffee or tea. Not enough towels.
Service is excellent all around. The location is central and easy walk to popular plazas, a great park. Breakfast is amazing with self serve champagne!
Fantastic, we generally dont spend that much money for a hotel but after a terrible experience the night before, it was worth it!
The room The location The general ambience We reserved a room with breakfast thru 'get a room' and surprised to see that it was not a buffet breakfast!!! for getting the buffet breakfast we needed to add some more money.... Not all the recommendations of the concierges were good, sometimes it seemed like they recommended places that they had personal interests/connections in.
Staff was delightfully enthusiastic. Setting was beautiful!
I loved the hotel, the look of the outside and the entry. The service is not what I have experienced at other Ritz hotels. The rooms were dated.
Old world charm and location. Great lobby and dining rooms Room furnishings and hall carpets need refreshing
The pleasure that a very comfortable and opulent hotel can give. The reception rooms are magnificent and staff and service were excellent, as you would expect.
The beds were amazingly comfortable, the housekeepers were not only very amusing but extraordinarily nice. The hotel was insanely clean and had a very comfortable feel to it, as if a lot of fancy people had been through it over the years. The location is good, but not great, for accessing most of the touristy stuff in Madrid. But I found the Prado (directly beside the Ritz) to be horrifically overcrowded compared to some of the other museums like Sofia Reina just down the street. Note: Not really easy to access via metro, I'd recommend taking a taxi to/from. Take the following review with a grain of salt. I am a young person who grew up poor and wanted, for once, the "Ritz" experience: While I am a big fan of trying new things, I have to say that the Ritz experience just wasn't for me. I don't mean to be crass, but if I had a fistful of fives - I can think of a few places I'd rather spend it than tipping the endless stream of people trying to help me with things. Additionally, there is a little doll that you place on your door if you do not wish to be disturbed. Note: Don't leave the doll up for very long, because if you do, they will call your room until you answer so that they can ask when the next time they can come in your room is. I nap maybe... 2-3 times per year at most, and I am severely irritated that they felt the need to call during my biannual nap to ask me when they can come in my room. Instead of changing my sheets 3X per day, how about leaving me the hell alone when I have my DO NOT DISTURB DOLL up? Perhaps I am not cut out for the lifestyle, but I don't want/need people treating me like a helpless child, yet simultaneously making me feel "lower" than they are. Every time I offered a "no thanks, I don't need a taxi, I'm walking" or walked into the hotel from the street, I received these weird looks of incredulity/disdain that I didn't particularly care for. When I brought my own luggage downstairs on checkout I absolutely horrified the front desk attendant. Why the need to treat people like this? I have no idea. My recommendation? Take the $500 per night you'd spend here for the standard room and split it in half. Take $250 / night to spend on some other hotel's suite. Take the other $250 and stick it back in your pocket.
We liked this hotel very much, luxury. Staff was very polite, we arrived 13 p.m., check in should be 14 p.m., we were offered to wait 20 minutes and offered drinks free of charge. In room we also found compliments, it's very nice, when you arrive. Buffet breakfast costs 30 eur per person.
The location, comfort and style. We stayed at the hotel 7 days and the 4th day we had to ask to vacuum the room. Only one arm chair fitted into the small room we had. Cleaning inconsistent. Not much selection at breakfast even when it was very expensive.
Hotel staff were fabulous ,location excellent As long as you dont mind a bit of faded grandeur and pink wardrobes an excellent choice
Location, near the museums and in a great part of town.
The best part is the location - beside all the main museums, surrounded by coffee shops and restaurants and still walking distance (20mins) to the central Plaza. The swimming pool was very nice- it is not very large but warm, comfortable and I had it all too myself
The general atmosphere is good, the decoration is well done The room wasn't what I expected. It was extremely small, with a darkened window looking to a small concrete courtyard. It was quite claustrofobic.
We liked the Hotel very much specially as far as the staff was concerned. Very helpful and amicable. Having free wi-fi in the room was a nice surprise once most hotels charge a great deal for it. The location is also great, a few steps from the Prado Museum, Reina Sofia and beautiful parcs.
service of staff
Excellent location for a city trip. A lot of must see locations are within walking distance. Superfriendly staff. A little dark inside. Not much daylight.
SPA, BREAKFAST AND STAFF WAS OK SIZE OF BED AND BEDROOM VERY TINY. HOT WEATHER IN CORRIDORS. WAS NO AC IN CORRIDORS
Great location in Madrid. Close to train station,Prado, downtown Madrid. Easy walking around area. Restaurant was very good and convenient.
location of the hotel is good. Very close to the Prado museum and Parque del retiro. 500 meter to Atocha train station where you can take high speed (and normal) trains to other Spanish destinations. Also, if you don't arrive too late or too early you can take the airport express bus to Atocha station. Is however on a 2x4 lane street but it has 2 windows, 1 with 'single' glass and another one with double glass so it keeps the sound from outside away (however the inside sounds are passed on rather easily...). Hotel has free wireless internet. doors are with key cards. no mini bar, though it does have a hair dryer. the hotel does not offer breakfast though reception is connected with a small restaurant next door where you would be able to eat something. there are other places around as well where you can get breakfast. food is ok but not spectacular.
Very central, clean, easy Small room, could not turn of the radiator which was very hot during the nights
Even if there are many better location hotels around this area, location could be their strength if you want to visit museum or other area of city to take a day trip departure at atocha station. The quality of staffs is suspecious, room was not deserving fair enough space.
We chose it only for its proximity to the Prado and it was great to be right across the Paseo. It was our first hotel in Spain and therefore the room seemed quite small, but not unusually so judging by most hotels we stayed in afterward.
The location is fantastic and it is fun to visit the restaurant and enjoy watching the local folks. Our room faced the main avenue that runs past the Prado and was amazingly quiet. It was the best night sleep we've ever had in lively Madrid. The hotel staff could be a little more proactive in dealing with customers questions.
Well-located. Internet access. Quiet, despite location on a busy road. Cheap for a city hotel. My room stank of stale cigarette smoke. The cafeteria was closed for the week, meaning that there was no food available in the hotel, but there had been nothing on the website warning of this. Staff were surly at times and not particularly welcoming.
Great location for visiting the big three Madrid art museums and near the railroad station. Some rude behavior by a few staff members, especially one evening waiter in the restaurant.
The staff was very professional and extremely helpful. They made a show reservation and advised on special cab arrangements to the airport. Each person was helpful when asked but were not overly pushy. The rooms were very comfortable and provided the essential needs. Very convenient to museums, parks, bus/cab service, train station and easy walk to various plazas/restaurants. Lack of some artwork/pictures in rooms. Ice machine in hotel.
Location, Staff, price Air conditioning noisy
The hotel is in an amazing locations. Close to lots of attractions and fun things to do. The room was very clean and have a cool vibe. Very spacious and lots of amenities. The desk attendant forgot to give me my passport back - I felt a little weird about that.
The location was fantastic and the price was good. No
Manager went out of his way to help. He was friendly, courteous and accommodating. No frills: the building was a little worn down and lacked elevators; but I wasn't expecting anything elaborate given the value, so on balance it's a very nice place as long as guests enter with reasonable expectations.
