The beds were amazingly comfortable, the housekeepers were not only very amusing but extraordinarily nice. The hotel was insanely clean and had a very comfortable feel to it, as if a lot of fancy people had been through it over the years. The location is good, but not great, for accessing most of the touristy stuff in Madrid. But I found the Prado (directly beside the Ritz) to be horrifically overcrowded compared to some of the other museums like Sofia Reina just down the street. Note: Not really easy to access via metro, I'd recommend taking a taxi to/from. Take the following review with a grain of salt. I am a young person who grew up poor and wanted, for once, the "Ritz" experience: While I am a big fan of trying new things, I have to say that the Ritz experience just wasn't for me. I don't mean to be crass, but if I had a fistful of fives - I can think of a few places I'd rather spend it than tipping the endless stream of people trying to help me with things. Additionally, there is a little doll that you place on your door if you do not wish to be disturbed. Note: Don't leave the doll up for very long, because if you do, they will call your room until you answer so that they can ask when the next time they can come in your room is. I nap maybe... 2-3 times per year at most, and I am severely irritated that they felt the need to call during my biannual nap to ask me when they can come in my room. Instead of changing my sheets 3X per day, how about leaving me the hell alone when I have my DO NOT DISTURB DOLL up? Perhaps I am not cut out for the lifestyle, but I don't want/need people treating me like a helpless child, yet simultaneously making me feel "lower" than they are. Every time I offered a "no thanks, I don't need a taxi, I'm walking" or walked into the hotel from the street, I received these weird looks of incredulity/disdain that I didn't particularly care for. When I brought my own luggage downstairs on checkout I absolutely horrified the front desk attendant. Why the need to treat people like this? I have no idea. My recommendation? Take the $500 per night you'd spend here for the standard room and split it in half. Take $250 / night to spend on some other hotel's suite. Take the other $250 and stick it back in your pocket.
Old world charm and location. Great lobby and dining rooms Room furnishings and hall carpets need refreshing
The location, comfort and style. We stayed at the hotel 7 days and the 4th day we had to ask to vacuum the room. Only one arm chair fitted into the small room we had. Cleaning inconsistent. Not much selection at breakfast even when it was very expensive.
We liked this hotel very much, luxury. Staff was very polite, we arrived 13 p.m., check in should be 14 p.m., we were offered to wait 20 minutes and offered drinks free of charge. In room we also found compliments, it's very nice, when you arrive. Buffet breakfast costs 30 eur per person.
The room The location The general ambience We reserved a room with breakfast thru 'get a room' and surprised to see that it was not a buffet breakfast!!! for getting the buffet breakfast we needed to add some more money.... Not all the recommendations of the concierges were good, sometimes it seemed like they recommended places that they had personal interests/connections in.
Hotel staff were fabulous ,location excellent As long as you dont mind a bit of faded grandeur and pink wardrobes an excellent choice
Fantastic, we generally dont spend that much money for a hotel but after a terrible experience the night before, it was worth it!
The pleasure that a very comfortable and opulent hotel can give. The reception rooms are magnificent and staff and service were excellent, as you would expect.
I loved the hotel, the look of the outside and the entry. The service is not what I have experienced at other Ritz hotels. The rooms were dated.
Staff was delightfully enthusiastic. Setting was beautiful!
Meget hyggelig hotell, sentralt beliggende i forhold til Metro, Grand Via, shopping ved Puerto del Sol,Prado.
Location of hotel Comfort of bed was spolt by squeaking everytime you moved in the bed!
The calm atmosphere and the beautiful interieur. Luxurious but still nice and comfortable. The price of two drinks was about the same as the price of one flight ticket back to Oslo . . . .. .
Have stayed there before and was 'welcomed back'. It is ideally located, overall a very pleasant hotel. Excellent staff.
Close to museums Over priced! Everything is outrageously expensive. Staff is not interested in the guest. No room facilities for heating water for coffee or tea. Not enough towels.
Great location. Beautiful old hotel. Concierge excellent. Breakfast very expensive. Staff was not well informed of the hours of restaurant.
Staff was unfriendly
its close proximity to museums and sites. the high cost for internet usage.
The location was perfect because our goal was to be able to visit the three major art museums within walking distance to our hotel. Parks, restaurants and shopping were also right there. The concierge was excellent in making flamenco arrangements for us. When I called ahead to check our reservation, the clerk answering the phone said that we would need to stay in one queen size bed and that to have twin beds would cost 500 euros per night. When we arrived, the registration clerk upgraded us to two twin beds at no extra cost.
Great bed and amazing pillows....very quite despite its central location. Quite expensive breakfast (buffet) for what is offered.
It's clean easy access hotel No food available in the afternoon (not even a sandwich)after our arrival.
The location, the staff, the room decorations, the room service, the quiet at night and particularily the breakfast. hi speed internet, Rather small elevators [to be expected in a building of that age], A/C a bit undersized.
Clean, nice staff. Great location. Strongly recommended!
Staff helpful but not intrusive. Room was modern and airy. Very large comfortable bed. Breakfast good quality
The comfort and cleaniness of the room. The staff was excellant. The open plan style of the bedroom/bathroom needed to be adjsuted to.
Very Clean & well designed. Bed was super comfortable. We liked the location. Located in quiet & beautiful area. Nice walking through the Park to Prado Museum.
We liked the baythroom set up and the comfort of the linens and beds
great size of room the toilet was across the room from the sink--makes it tough to wash hands. Also, no doors between room and shower area, makes it tough for those sharing a room who don't want to be so exposed, like grandmother and grandson!
At 5:40 in the morning intruders entered our room as we slept. They entered with flashlights through a side door and only left when we began screaming. It was a terrible experience. The hotel's reception seemed very surprised but did nothing to reassure us that we were safe there.
Excellent location. Beds very comfortable. Hotel still not fully open and noise of workmen woke us in the morning. Bathroom wash area actually in the room not standard 5 star - no desk area.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and the location just perfect - right in the city centre.
I like the small size of the hotel, quietness, no noise from neighbours, good modern design, comfort, new furniture and bed linen. The size of rooms could be bigger. There was no bath in the room only the shower. The hotel staff is polite but not well trained (for example VAT shall not included in the hotel bill during check out if booking is made via www.booking.com site). More information in the hotel shall be provided about city attractions, restaurants etc.
Location, bellboy service, Expensive, old rooms, poor service, low water pressure of the shower, not worth the money..
Nothing Small pokey room with inefficient air conditioning. Indifferent staff. Very expensive mini bar ie 5EUR for a small bottle of water. Would definately not stay here again nor would I recommend it to anyone else. Stay regulary at 5* Hotels around the world and this has to be classed as medicore 4* at best.
quite and relaxing
The Hotel staff were the most pleasant helpful group of people in all our travels in Spain. We were traveling for 2 weeks.I would go back to this Hotel anytime. I did not like that people could smoke on the Hotel property.
Nice location by Retiro Park Overpriced and not good valuie. They refused to send an ironing board to the room, we had to pay for a valet service to iron our clothes! The hotel bar was a tiny dark room with no windows! And their website lied saying the room had a balcony, which it didn't. We only chose this hotel because we wanted a balcony, so were very disappointed.
All the facilities but particularly the helpful, courteous and multi-lingual staff. No
The hotel is clean and well appointed. There were ample facilities (restaurants, pools, etc.) It was fairly empty, so many of the facilities downstairs (pub, screening room, etc.) were not open. The entire downstairs was dark. It just seemed so empty and lonely
The staff was extremely helpful and they upgraded us to a jr suite. The location to the park and designer shops very good. Also great breakfast.
Well-located hotel close to museum district and shopping areas. Staff extremely helpful and polite. Design and layout of the rooms, and hotel in general, is very appealing.
Perfect location. Beautiful rooms and facilities. Good amenities (Aqua di Parma!). Nice staff. Breakfast extremely expensive. Poor internet reception (slow). Dirty and not warm jacuzzi.
The area was so nice and quiet. I like to walk so the convenience to other transportation sites was fine. This is a great hotel. The bed was so comfortable. The staff actually respects your wishes of not being disturbed. I will stay here again on my next visit.
I would recommend this hotel to all those, who like to be close to the centre but not in the midst of traffic noise. Walking distance to all major galleries (Prado, Thyssen, Reigna Sophia), beautiful park just in front of the hotel, excellent services and - yeah - free minibar - all this makes this hotel excellent. I would prefere separate bathroom instead of glass wall inbetween the room and bathroom.
They don't have WIFI in the rooms.
Very good stay, staff were very helpful, all spoke English (which helped) hotel was very clean and tidy and a good central location.
I like everything.
the rooms are very well distributed. very comfortable. none
staff very helpful yes 24 hour building work outsideinterior was a little plastic, lacked class
The location is excellent as you can walk everywhere in Madrid, such as The Prado and other Museums. Sounds travel throughout the hotel as it is clean and modern with wood floors so there is nothing to muffle the sounds. Early in the morning I could hear many rooms in the hotel opening doors, moving chairs, shwoering....cant imagine what I might have heard......
no kettle, no tea, no recommendation from English guest
Location is excellent, situated in small street just of the traffic dense major streets, room was comfortable and free minibar was a nice extra. There are some excellent restaurants in the small street of the hotel and the neighbourhood is know for it's shopping. For the next three years there are heavy roadworks executed in the area around the hotel. During the night the noice could disturb you from sleeping (also during the weekend!!). Maybe the interior rooms are less affected. The taxi the hotel ordered for us to go back to the airport charged us 15€ more than the one on the way to the hotel... better to take a taxi in the street.
Wifi worked and bathroom was large. Old and tired building in general - looks like they've tried to update some things in the room, but overall the rooms require a lot more work. The beds were terrible - old and you could see the sagging in the middle and feel the springs and I found hairs on the sheets. My boyfriend and I ended up getting a room with 2 single beds - they were booked up and couldn't help us in that area. All the tiles were cracked, walls were stained and the walls were so thin you could here the people in rooms around you during the night as well as the air con. The photos on the website were deceiving as they showed their updated rooms, while from the looks of things, most rooms hadn't been updated to that standard yet. I would personally pay more to be in a more comfortable environment. The plus was the wifi was good.
perfect location, very friendly and helpful staff
Next to Biblioteca Nacional and Colon subway station Smoking staff at the reception desk.
The room was very clean, the small breakfast was good, and the hotel was close to the metro and many tourist attractions. I wish they spoke a little more English because it was hard to communicate.
Good value for money in a central location. Bottled water available in lobby vending machine. Air-conditioning (though barely enough at full strength). Cafe/bar in lobby which I did not use but have heard is good. The twin-bedded room was fine for one person, at least for one night, but if there had been two people in the room it would have been very cramped--the second bed was the only place to put luggage. There was much less furniture than in the pictures on the booking.com website, and it was quite beat-up. Bathroom was ill-designed and cramped. Breakfast was put away and door closed ten minutes before the advertised time. Payment was demanded on arrival--it is usual, and preferable, to pay on departure.
mainly the location and the space in the rooms. needs an urgent refurbishing and a good clean as it was sweat smelling...change of furniture and a good wall paint is needed.
The service was very good. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms were big and clean. Good value for money especially in a big city with a lot of tourism
The apartment was spacious. It is situated close to tourist routes for the on /off bus and close enough to walk into the heart of the shopping areas. The staff were very difficult to communicate with, so very little english, and not very friendly or helpful, with our very little Spanish. Bad directions, completely wrong in fact, and trying to get any thing, like toilet paper and enough towels (for just 2 people ) was really difficult! Then there was the night club situated right below us, playing thumping music till 5am. Apartment was so old and rundown, broken tiles on the stairs inside, that kept falling away to expose a sharp edge you could cut your self on, and the beds must have been 20 years old.
The apartment first allocated was unsuitable, steps to bedroom but there was no problem in chaning ti a more suitable room The room apartments would need refurbishing
Location is good only. The furniture, bathroom and kitchenette are totaly worn out, breakfast restaurant is very small and food is poor. So the hotelneeds serious renovation. I never go there again and never recommend any other person.
