Fabulous value for the money. €52 for two people in a spotlessly clean double private room w bathroom. Right in Smithfield steps away from great restaurants, cinema, pubs cafes and live Irish Music. Right above the Jameson Brewery Tasting Rooms. Laundry facilities, on site pub and cafe and luggage storeage. Room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, warm and quiet. Felt very safe also. Nothing. It was all good!
The hostel was very clean and well kept. Had a bar and cafe which made it much easy to find to find food and drinks. The food was reasonably priced. I don't see why I wouldn't use Generator again whether it was in Dublin or somewhere else.
The staff here is absolutely wonderful and very friendly! You can ask for suggestions on places to go and things see and to do and they give out detailed descriptions on what you should expect to experience at each destination! The Night Staff was equally wonderful! To my surprise the night guards/security we're very friendly and helpful and happy to give good directions to near by places. The bartenders are cheerful, funny and have great suggestions for local restaurants and nightlife activities. The reception team is outstanding! They are warm and welcoming and available 24/7! They can help you with any delemas or concerns may come up during your stay. On my next trip to Dublin I will stay at the generator and the staff has a HUGE part to play in desire to book a room with the generator again! The only things that I can complain about is the fact that the laundry room often has a line waiting because the dryers take too long to dry. Just for one load it can take up to two to three hours before your clothes become dry, but even then they may not be dry and this leaves people will still be waiting to take their turn while their clothespecially sit soaking wet. Also the bar could be open later.
Easy to feel included and apart of something as a solo traveller. The staff and environment in general make the hostel have a home like feel. Convenient plugs and lights with every bed. Good food at breakfast and for lunch/dinner. Close enough to walk to city center, temple bar area etc but far enough that you feel safe because you don't have to deal with drunk strangers, and the loud streets of the city centre. Beds were comfortable but creaked. Every time you turned or moved, the whole bed would creak and move. Also it was very hot at night due to having a very small window in the room.
Based on the price point we got it at, it was a great stay. We stayed in a 6 bed unit which was surprisingly comfortable. The hotel bar was good, and great atmosphere while the Eurocup was on. Overall the place was always clean, lots of staff around which was nice. The demographic was crazy... People of all ages which was fantastic! It couldn't be closer to Jameson. Great bars and restaurants around it as well. It's about a 15 minute walk to temple bar area. 10 minute walk to Guinness. The bar as good as it is, a bit of a tourist trap... It shouldn't be €5-6 for a pint... The rooms were hot as hell, the window barely opened and only at the end of stay did we find out we could request a fan... Not much else to complain about.
I got upgraded to an all female ensuite room, which was fantastic, bright and big. All the bathrooms in the whole building were clean from what I saw, fantastic bar, friendly staff, loved my stay! Each bed came with a huge lockable storage box, if you didn't have your own lock they were 5 euro at reception. The regular rooms were very small and cramped and windowless.
clean room with nice bathroom and TV. beautiful view to a spire. linen and towels provided. modest but delicious breakfast. good location. It should be a little warmer in the room. Heating was switched on only a few times in the night. So it was hard to get up from bed into "cool morning" :)
room wad clean and comfortable, and quite central. we had a safe in the room which was brilliant Friday night was very noisy with people coming back late, and when we went down for breakfast, there wasn't any left for us.
The hostel is very well located, just around the corner from "Busaras", with very helpful and friendly staff. Great services & facilities. Nothing
Such a great atmosphere, net so many amazing people! The staff are great and helpful as well Not as clean as I had hoped but it still wasn't too bad
It was an even better location than I had expected. It was very convenient to all transportation options including being right next door to the bus terminal which was great for tours of areas outside Dublin proper. Breakfast was in a very cramped location without enough seats for most people to sit. Toast, with jam and butter, and apples were supplemented by tea. Coffee was only instant.
Good location The staff were rude and had obviously not heard of the concept 'Customer Service'. All guests were treated like young backpackers and we even had to validate the key card daily!
booked for a 6 beds room, been placed in a 10 beds one..No reading light. Only 2 power plugs next to one of the 10 beds..
the room was very nice and confortable and the bathroom was wonderful the kitchen isn't very clean and the pottery isn't enough for everybody...
Great location, LCD tv in the room, good heating and electric windows, nice big bathroom. Great value for money and good atmosphere. Breakfast not great...
location not having phones in the rooms
Nice room (private with bunk bed). Good price. Friendly staff at desk. Towels and sheets were not changed during stay, though they have been in the room. Train next to room, what can be a bit noisy.
The organization, staff, willingness to help, cleanliness, excellent
went for lads weekend, spot on everything was there, couldnt ask for more nothing wrong with the place
Super Friendly & Helpful Staff - Plus the front desk person remembered my name the Next Day. What a great way to feel valued as a guest, well done! Convenient Location, a block from the bus station was the best. From there I could drop my bags and hit the shops and sights, which started just one block away - Perfect! They have a sauna, pool table, library and other lounge in the basement. It wasn't well advertised, as everyone seemed to be on the main floor. Great security - Key cards for every floor and room. Wi-Fi not available in all rooms, so they recommend all guests go to lobby to use wi-fi, which does bring a community feel, but still inconvenient not having it in all rooms. Breakfast could start a little earlier for travelers who have early morning flights or plans. Nightly movie advertised, but not available Sauna available for only 3 hours, 1 for females only, 1 coed, 1 for males only. It was a little uncomfortable having just one naked old man in the sauna when I arrived, so I turned around and left.
I booked the double room and it was lovely. The room was clean and big, the beds were really comfortable. Our room wasn't on the side of the street, so that was nice too. The showers were recently renovated, and there was hot water. It was sometimes a little bit noisy in the morning, because the walls weren't enough isolated.
It was clean and tidy, the staff were helpful, lots of information available about Dublin and Ireland in general, catered for all ages and had facilities not normally associated with a hostel (sauna). It was within easy walking distance of the city centre, had a bus station and tram stops just up the road and was good value for money.
location , very near bus station they took money from my credit card for the booking, and when I arrived took cash as well, and 1 week later still have not my refund, they should specify they withold money as a deposit as it is very difficult to get back quickly from bank
Actually I was upgraded to Jacobs Hotel very clean and good comfort tv in room and shower very impressed with ,most definite will use again. Not informed on time for breakfast,WE came down at 9 40 no brekkie.
Stuff A man who slept downside snored loudly and no one in the room can sleep, and the odor filled the room. Noise which trains passed by happened all the time.
It is clean, good budget, well located with good free services. The staff is not particularly usefull and wellcoming, the room was not well furnished and quite small. A bit noisy some times.
Hotel location close to city center + warm atmosphere The big issue was the noise during evening and night as walls are not thick enough and some people made trouble resulting in a chaotic night.
I honestly can't think of anything I liked about this place. The showers were cold for 6 days straight. They were renovating the bathrooms on their floor so there were half the showers on the floor. The staff was cold and unhelpful. The renovation was very loud. Breakfast was toast.
staff was great,clean,ad good location
The room was fine, but the bathroom needed work. Only one of the showers worked properly. It seemed as if the bathroom did not get cleaned very often. The room was very comfortable and the location was awesome! For the cost, it was worth it!
Location, Atmosphere, Staff otganizing Pub Crawl... Showers. Not many and not private at all.
Good location in central Dublin, and good value for money for bed with included breakfast It's in central Dublin, but it's a shame it is just facing a night club... Music was loud !!! Plus, although showers were clean, they were not very practical, with no place at all to leave your stuff (towels, clothes, etc.): broken hook and no shelf.
very helpful and nice staff, great localization in centre of Dublin, free wifi in all rooms, clean rooms with bathrooms difficult to find... maybe this: the breakfast room and luggage rooms could be bigger, and the rooms were ready only after 3pm, not 2pm, as was in reservation paper.
Well located surprisingly quiet good all round budget accomodation
friendly staff and excellent location.
the staff was friendly, linen clean and atmosphere nice the kitchen was a bit messy and the breakfast trays smelled really bad
pleasantly suprised as years since i stayed at a hostel..very central. Just it was a bit noisy but to be expected with mostly travellers staying..
The people at the front desk were super friendly and one of them even gave us recommendations of where to go and what to see.
it was close to main area breakfast
Very friendly staff at reception. Centrally located. Clean. Facilities to lock & store luggage. Easy going. Felt very comfortable there. Will recommend. Breakfast. Expensive Internet access.
Near the centre, well comunicated and the staff very nice. The bathroom was dirty
The location! There weren't sufficient electrical outlets in the bedroom (only 1 or 2 for 8 people, and no one in the bathroom), but there are many in the common room!
Good location, reasonably prices, very welcoming and friendly staff.
Myself and my daughter stayed at the waterloo, when we went to the pink concert, we were very impressed and i work for the bank of ireland where i did a recommendation for the hotel, we will be going to concerts again and will us the hotel, very clean, lovely spacious rooms and a lovely breakfast served in friendly atmosphere from the outside it appears hotel does need some work however there is a sign stating that this is ongoing
Pleasant part of town, convenient location to get into city centre,. good selection for breakfast. Pleasant & helpful staff. nothing
Nothing was too much. Map of city showing 1-way streets printed off for us. Car parking space reserved. Girl in Breakfast room was exceptionally good with our grand daughters aged 7& 5. Breakfast ..full Irish incl..great. There weren't any.
Good location and great staff No elevator
Pleasant, friendly staff. Clean and quiet room with a great shower. Inexpensive and more than adequate breakfast. Hotel wasaltogether fine in every way, but a promised parking space was not forthcoming, although apology was received. Website says check-in is from 1.00, but management later said the reason the parking space was unavailable was that check-in was from 2.00. We were clamped as an indirect result. Release fee cost more than the night's accommodation. The parking space did become available, but we weren't told.
We were made very welcome and afforded every assistance. we were advised on local sights of interest and transport facilities. the rooms were beautifully appointed and had everything we required for our comfort and convenience. The food was excellent and plentiful. We enjoyed our stay very much!
At first glance the hotel was a bit old and needed a lot of work to bring it up to scratch. However, it is being renovated and the room I stayed in clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff were terrific.
This hostel was wonderful -- an excellent place to meet people. The rooms were tidy, and the staff was incredibly friendly.
Very well located, right by the Temple Bar. Friendly staff. I know it's a hostel, but I would expect at least a bar of soap in the bathroom. A bit expensive for what it is. Our room was very close to the kitchen/dining room, so sometimes it was hard to sleep with everyone laughing and shouting.
The location is excellent. Pancakes at the weekend were great! Staff were friendly and it seemed very well organised. no problems.
different nationalities extremely noisy inside and out
The helpful staff. The hostel is also in the center of town and close to everything we wanted to see/do. It was very noisy, sounded like we had an elephant upstairs all the time. This hostel is connected to the pub next door so you will need some ear plugs. For the price we did not mind so much. Breakfast doesn't seem to be looked over by any staff, its a free for all, we managed to get some toast but the people not speaking much English were taking juice and things to their table and not sharing. Maybe this is common among backpackers but i haven't seen it before.
Fantastic location ,extremely nice place with a good atmosphere. Would definitely go again!
staff was great, room was very very clean Water in the shower would pulsate from warm to scalding hot and back to warm. so I got used to a 15-20 second rinse move, rinse/ move, etc
Location, free luggage storage Staff was very unhelpful, when I asked a receptionist to make a local call, I was sent to the street to automat, I asked her to change coins, she said, that she didn't have. The room was dirty & there wasn't any soap. Breakfast (when you stay not at the weekend) is very poor.
The easy going atmosphere, the diverse and freindly guests and the whole no waste ethic of the communal kitchen. The rooms need a table (there is nowhere to put anything down like a cup) and if there is a wardrobe it should have hangers in it otherwsie don't bother.
Excellent place, the best location and very helpful staff. The beds were so comfortable!
The staff is very nice, always ready to give you some advices or just some free hugs :) The people I met are interesting, from all over the world. -
Good location, good price, godd breakfast and relly clean kitchen for an hostel
Clean rooms, friendly staff and great breakfast.
The room and bathroom were clean There is TOO MUCH NOISE at late hours of night, people use the street the hostel is in to go from the bars and clubs to 24 hours restaurants. They pass by completely drunk, screamimg, singing... It was impossible to have a good night of sleep.
I had an amazing time! Second time I've stayed there, and once again was immense :) the staff are so friendly and helpful, and the people there are just he same. Pancakes on weekends, the pub crawl on Thursdays, there's always something to do! Incredible value for money, and in a top location just off st. Stephen's green. Can't ask for more really. If you're going to stay in Dublin either by yourself or with friends, Camden place is where to go!! Nothing :)
Cleanliness of bathroom facilities and room.
Helpful friendly staff. V good beds and bedding. Close to centre and night life
Friendly and efficient staff, small but clean and comfortable rooms, quiet location very close to main city centre attractions, close to good public transport links.
Lots of things. The reception is open 24h/day, they offer free calls to overseas numbers, free wifi, free breakfast (pancakes on weekends), free welcome drinks free walking tour and there was plenty dining and cooking space. The street it was on was quite noisy.
This location was very convenient to catch the paddy wagon tour , which is an amazing tour. It was also convenient to have 24 hour check-in The blankets up at Dublin location were too small and I could not cover my whole body, The shower was also probably the worst I have had you wouldn't freeze for about 60 seconds and three seconds later the at risk for a medical burn, and have to jump out and wait 5 min for it to cool down enough to rinse off
location, the staff was very nice very mall room, the water not very hot, the room not nice at all, cold.
Avalon House is full of amenities and friendly travelers - the perfect place to stay in Dublin. Nice, clean facilities with a delicious free breakfast! Play pool with new friends, eat cheap by cooking in the huge kitchen, go on the free walking tours, use the free tablets, sleep in comfortable beds, and be close to all the wonderful sights Dublin has to offer. No complaints here - I've already recommended Avalon House to all my friends!
24 hour desk and kitchen for everyone
difficult to get online in the room , always only can use wifi in the lobby
great atmosphere and staff, easy to reach no wifi in room, silly taps, poor cleanliness
it was quite central to the city, staff very friendly, and reasonably quiet for the location. it was advertised as a hotel.its not,its a hostel, and the booking out time of 10 o clock is just to early and very inconvenient,11 or 12 would be more appropriate.
central position - friendly staff
Is always open, the staff helped us very much, with buses, travels, taxis. Is very close to the center of this beautifull city and country. And they sent me back to France the stuff I forgot in the room (with my own charges, but done!) I had a little problem with the total price, I had to pay double, but in the end, they gave back to me my money...
It was walking distance to Trinity College, Temple Bar and many of the sites in Dublin. This place was disgusting! The room was dirty, the bathroom smelled moldy and the carpet was so nasty, we were afraid to walk on it without shoes. Additionally, we almost got stuck in the lift because it was broken, but no one bothered to put up a sign! We were there for 3 days, and it was broken the entire time we stayed there. We never saw any maintenance people even attempting to repair it. This place was not family friendly as indicated!!
Thank you very much for your help and support! you are the best hotel in Dublin!
