The location and proximity to MDAnderson Cancer Hospital was ok, less than 15 minutes to drive there. The decor, though older, was nice too. There was a full size gingerbread house in the lobby, all edible, which we thought was really cool too. Reading online that this hotel had a remodel in 2011, I wasn't expecting it to be perfect and pristine, but it was even less than I expected. The carpets coming off the elevator to our floor were stained and looked dirty. Entering the room, everything looked ok, but there was a definite smell to the room. Not overpowering, but not good either. Kind of musty/humid/moldy smelling. The tv was on a dresser not facing the bed, or any of the chairs in the room, so I'm not sure how one is supposed to view it. We were there for one night before our appointment at the MDAnderson Cancer Center, and though we will be making many trips there over the next few years, I'm not sure we will stay at this hotel again. For the price ($156 after taxes), I was expecting better.

Location to the Toyota center. Being within walking distance. We also loved the free shuttle, the drivers were both grate. Needs more smoking rooms.
Toyota Center was an easy walk accross the street; complimentary shuttle to restaurants in the downtown area not as easy to check in if you were not using valet parking

It was in a great location. Clean, great area, very trendy, great staff. There was a bunch of hidden charges, everything was a la carte. I ended leaving 3 hours into my stay because I had a emergency. None of my charges where refunded. Even 20$ off the restaurant would have been nice in that situation. I was given the absolute worse view. Im from Houston and ill get hotels so avoid driving on the weekends but, probably wont stay at Derek again.
Hotel Derek made my money worth, that we even decided to stay an extra day and the front desk workers where very professional and flexible with check out hours.
Even with the construction outside, we had a great stay at Hotel Derek. It's a fun hotel at a great location. The only real negative was the cleanliness of the room (specifically the bathroom). Overall, the hotel staff was great. We also enjoyed grabbing a drink at the hotel bar as it had a great vibe, lots of energy and plenty of opportunity to mingle.
I loved the location of the hotel and the fact that they actually had a full bar. I made reservations through hotel.com and the check in process was very easy. The staff were very friendly. Nothing against the hotel itself, but I wish there was someone who monitored the noise levels in the hallways. Even with a sign posted requesting guests to be mindful of their noise level, the guests next to us kept partying and being overall noisy until 4 AM.
We had to pay an extra charge for the self parking. This charge was %40 of the charges I was paying for staying the night.
love the surroundings,the quietness and cleanliness of the place...the staff was also wonderful and friendly especially the bartender...although there was one staff that doesn't know the first thing about customer service not really towards me but what I've seen with other guests on 2 occasions.....overall I love the place but there's a few things they can work on because of their price

A family emergency brought me to Houston, and I booked my room online. I loved the urban modern decor. Boutique and trendy - and the decor is my style, but some fixtures were a little dated. Location and self (or optional valet) parking were very convenient. Lots of hidden fees: resort fees, "misc tax", parking tax; plus upon check in - after already paying my entire reservation (4 nights), my CC was charged $100/night for "misc". I was prorated some of the $100/nt, but it was still an unexpected expense that I was not aware of $100/nt fee when I booked - or I probably would've cancelled my reservation. Also reserved for 4 nights, but when I tried to extend my stay 2 extra nights, the room rate was much more per night. They did allow me a late check out to decide if I wanted to pay the increased rate - which I greatly appreciated. I ended up checking out of the Derek, and stayed in another hotel in the galleria district those 2 extra nights.
Boutique hotel feel. Near the Galleria and other shopping and restaurants. Fire alarm went off at 5:30 AM. Noticed that some of the lobby furniture and room furnishings looked worn and needed to be updated. Located in a busy area and entering and exiting on Westhimer is difficult.
Not much too extra fees not worth the stay. The price did not fit the service and accommodations.
The hotel can use a renovation in the rooms.

The room was comfortable. It was the first time we both stayed here. Out of all the places to stay in Houston we chose this place. What ruined our experience was that my new 2015 vehicle was vandalized in the self-parking garage. This ruined my whole experience and and impression of crown plaza. I reached out to a manager and she quickly pushed us to the valet staff. The manager was out of town so Eric just made me fill out an incident report. He stated the his manager Mr. Dillet would call me and till this day he still has not reached out to me. I had to call him consistently to get an answer. I've already spoken to him and I understand the outcome. It was just the way things were handled that makes never want to return to this place again.
Beautiful spacious room. Front desk staff was wonderful Garage elevator broke and was out of order nearly two days during our stay.
To be honest there wasn't much I liked about the hotel and I have stayed there before. This is my second stay at this hotel and I book it because it's fairly close to the Houston rodeo. You have to pay $9 for parking and I'm like you are really changing me for parking when I'm a guest at this hotel? No free continental breakfast really? Holiday Inn express has a great free breakfast. The sheets were seriously like 100 count plastic or something in case you wet the bed. The housekeeper entered my room 3 times starting at 7:30 to noon and we were trying to sleep. The front desk had gotten my reservations wrong and called my room at which time I explained to them we were staying 2 nights. Well I guess the front desk didnt believe me because they locked me out of my room. I had to go to the front desk and show them my reserverations. Terrible experience and quite frankly I dont think I'll be back.
Elevators were extremely slow. Only 2 operating in peak hours. Smelled of unpleasant cleaning products.
I had a pleasant stay at Crowne Plaza River Oaks. The staff was very helpful considering that this is my first time in the US. The room was spacious and very clean, and you cant beat such price.

Nothing about this hotel That the rooms smelled awful so we switched rooms and there it was. The same smell. It smelled like heavy carpet smell. Turns out they were smoking in the room before we arrived. We were later told to heck out find a different hotel and leave. The staff weren't helpful at all since there was a big group checking in she didn't care about us
Location, secure environment, large room, comfortable queen size beds, kitchennet area in room, beautiful accommadations,and extremely friendly staff. I did encounter one problem with no hot water in the shower. My parents were two doors down therefore my family used their bathroom. I immediately reported the plumbing problem. We were offered another room and given a credit for not receiveing full sevice in the room. The manager and staff accommdated my family quickly and graciously. For a family of three and my parents traveling with me there was no free complimentary breakfast available. I really think this should be included for the price of the rooms
I like the overall value in the cleanliness of the rooms I didn't like the 50 dollar deposit per room because I reserved three rooms so that was an extra hundred and fifty dollars taken out of my account

Good location for easy access to the highway while being near Houston's Galleria. Free wireless service.. The staff are curious and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable. The price was very reasonable. I would recommend it to anyone who wants good value and easy access. The breakfast buffet, for the price, I thought, was limited nor did I think the quality of the food reflected the otherwise high quality of the hotel. My bathroom was small although functional.

Nice facilities, cordial and friendly staff that went above and beyond to ensure my stay was a pleasant one. The bedding was extremely comfortable, the showers well kept and gave a home away from home feel. slow wifi, tight parking garage thats a bit more expensive than i would expect for a place with no security guard, barely any room to actually park your vehicle, no free breakfast.

I liked the short walk to Minute Maid Park and to Vic & Anthony's restaurant. I like the ability to check-in early. I liked the pre-reg email asking for early check-in preferences. I did not like the cramped quarters at the entrance. Due to the train, the narrow lanes for auto & valet made for a cluster. There were no bell carts available and the bell men seemed too busy. I did not like the small size of the sleeping room. Very cramped quarters.
We really enjoyed the room and the location. It was 2 adults and a 5 yr old. We were there to catch an Astros game and to visit NASA which was only a 30 minute drive away. Minute Maid was within walking distance. Concierge said we could use the complimentary shuttle but we walked to ballpark instead. Hotel was also next to the northbound and southbound light rail so we hopped on that to the museum district. We would definitely stay there again. We didn't use the valet for $36, we found street parking around the corner. Got locked out of room at noon even though we had a late check out scheduled. Was no big deal though. They had a bus boy sent up to give us new room keys and they apologized.
Extremely friendly staff. All the pictures showed a large tub in the bathroom. This was really important to us in booking our room, however, there was only a shower upon arrival. We felt duped.
The Regency lived up to its reputation. I was impressed by the friendly, helpful and informed staff. The beds were very comfortable. WiFi is free in the social areas, guest of the hotel have to pay for WiFi in the guest rooms.

Centralized location, affordable. No valet the night we arrived, pearking area was dark and entrances were a good distance from the parking lots. I would not have felt comfortable with my wife walking to the car at night. The room left much to be desired as well, only a double room availability right next to noisy I-10 FWY. The room was clean but had a mildew odor and the AC was extremely loud which may have been intentional to drown out the hwy noise. Saturday evening only one very small elevator was functioning so waits for a spot on the elevator exceeded 5 minutes. Not a hotel I'd recommend.

Hotel was such a retreat, It instantly made me regret not booking more nights! I had a great experience for my first time at the Omni.
I liked the comfort and overall feel. I liked the pond and the easy access to the hotel from the parking lot. They don't offer basic services offered and 2 or 3 star hotels like complementary breakfast. Also they "offer" drinks and snacks in the room but at very pricy extra cost. $3 or $4 for a can or soda or snack bar.
Great Space, nice and clean and bed is comfy! There was a women convention and my neighbors were very loud and disconsidered, also front desk made a mistake and woke me up at 8am
This old property has a great lobby and fountains to view outside. Parking was limited so use valet. Small clean rooms and quiet. The night staff swiped my card on the wrong room. Then britney said she was doing me a favor giving me a 2nd set of keys and needed to swipe debt again...

The hotel was very nice and very clean. The food was great too. The only thing that I didn't like was at 7:50 am the maid let herself in and woke me. She left immediately, but still that was somewhat strange.
The place was beautiful. Very kind and helpful staff. Easy check in and check out. Good time over all. Asked for a king bed, got two full beds. .-. I was a solo traveler and had no need for the other one. But oh well life goes on.

It is clean, the restaurant food and staff was great, and it's close to MDAnderson med center, and the hotel provides a daily shuttle convenient to scheduled appt. times. Only the noisy construction of a building next door, which began at 4 AM, but that cannot be helped and is no fault of the Wyndom.
I enjoyed the gym. The gym was nice and cleaned. I had a kitchenette in my room, which was really nice. The self parking. Leaving by Burger King my tail pipe kept dragging. I was really amazed how fast the parking lot filled up.

Proximity to medical centres. The shuttle to and from medical centres, One of the shuttle drivers needs to find another line of work, or retire. He was lazy, unfriendly, and left you wondering why he was in his position. Every other employee was perfectly wonderful! New hotel construction behind this hotel is very noisey.
This hotel was only a short straight walk from parking garage 10 at MD Anderson. The hotel was clean with pleasant staff. The room got icy cold which was perfect. Free bottled water in rooms was a nice thoughtful touch. Directv went out for a little while during the storm. Breakfast buffet items were cold but there were a lot to choose from.

The room was nice The staff was friendly enough but EXTREMELY SLOW; only 1 of the 3 elevators worked; tried to take the stairs and was deterred by a 'Emergency Exit only; Alarm Will Sound' sign. Surrounding area is pretty dirty.
The location is perfect particularly if in town for the performing arts functions. The service is great--Winfield W. and Jeremy M. are among the best in the hospitality world.
The room was clean and staff were very nice. The walls were paper thin and the door to the room was not closed tight enough to not shake and bang anytime another door was opened or closed on our floor. It kept my girlfriend and I up all night long, I finally called the front desk around 3 am and was told all they could do was extend my checkout by an hour... The free breakfast in the morning was alright but I was too tired to actually enjoy any of it. Room 501 was the loudest room I've ever slept in.
The staff was extremely polite and courteous. The place has so much character. The gentleman out front got us a taxi within about 30 seconds of asking how to get one! The tv and stereo could use an upgrading (cassettes?). But who stays there to watch tv?
The staff greeted us warmly and even provided champagne upon our arrival. When we made it to the room it was beautiful with a great view of downtown and all the amenities we could have wanted. Even the water fixtures were stunning. It was a truly fantastic stay and I couldn't recommend it higher.
The exercise facility is so small that it is almost pointless. The showers need updating, as do other amenities like the television.

It is within walking distance of the Houston Grand Opera and metro to the museum & theater district - a lovely boutique hotel! TV and phone system a bit antiquated but work. There is so much to do within walking distance of the hotel that this was not really important to us.
Very quiet and cozy, with only about 8 rooms per floor. Rooms are small, but nicely appointed and very clean and comfortable. Breakfast buffet was great. Everything was obviously prepared fresh. Staff are courteous and friendly. The front entrance was under construction. Not much of a view from our room, just the parking lot.

This was a wonderful hotel- beautifully restored and renovated. My room was spacious and comfortable. I had read a previous review from a guest who had been disappointed by the size of the bathroom, but I did not experience this problem at all. Every aspect of my room met or exceeded my expectations and the value was exceptional. I can't think of any part of my stay that disappointed me. Honestly.

Beautiful hotel in a wonderful area of downtown. We were able to walk everywhere. We did love the roof top pool as well. Amazing view of downtown from above. The main drawback for us is that there was a wedding the night we stayed so the bar/pool table area was not available. There was no other good place to hang out at the hotel which was inconvenient for us.
Fantastic location - great restaurants, bars and the Wortham theater are all within walking distance. Bed was old, uncomfortable and not worth what we paid for.
I loved the atmosphere, decorations, the view from the pool was amazing, the room was clean and comfortable. The valet were super friendly and helpful. The staff inside seemed a bit on edge from the double weddings in the restaurant, clerk told us we could order at the bar tender stand downstairs and the bartender seemed offended and said she's a liar, it's room service only that night. I was not fond of the prices for waffles and french toast on the menu, seemed an awful high price for such a simple food. The view from my room was construction and graffiti ' ed windows on the building next to us.
I loved my view for the room! I requested a room with a nice view and I was accomadated with a room on the 21st floor! It was also my birthday weekend and they had chocolates and a card waiting for me. Everything was perfection!
location close to Minute Maid park. Rooms were nice size, free breakfast buffet was spectacular. Maria and the staff in the kitchen during the breakfast and in assisting in attempting to rectify a mistake made by other staff (see 'What didn't you like'). I called ahead to find out whether I needed to bring our coffee brewer for our own, in room, coffee, and was told they had actual brewers (not those pod-type things). They didn't, and couldn't locate any, and didn't have any answers for how to get what we wanted and what they said they had. They did brew our coffee in their kitchen for us, which was apparently the best they could do. We almost didn't get the early check in they had also promised over the phone; luckily I had the name of the person who granted it, who happened to be the one at the front desk and who initially told us they couldn't check us in early.

Daughter and husband loved the Milk and Cookies Happy Hour every night! Breakfast was very good too! The pool was perfect for my 4 year old because it is only 3 feet deep and not very big at all. A little disappointing.
Location is great, facility is average!! Parking is a problem, no self parking and you can wait for your car for a long time.. During peak hours, valet department don't answer your call..even if they do you may still wait !!!
Had to use valet parking the whole time as the regular deck was closed, and there was an extended wait to get the car when I was ready. The room could also use a refrigerator.
Roooms not as new as would be expected. TV was not modern and had problems with it. Valet parking was extremely expensive for parking my vehicle around the corner where I can see it when I exit the hotel
The staff was really helpful and informative about places to go eat and hang out. and with directions. Balcony was very small, and expected more for my money.

We found that the noise from the highway can be very loud and make it challenging for children to sleep at night. We also found cockroaches in the bathroom and that is not good indication of cleanliness. We raised the fact that we found the cockroaches to the hotel staff and their response was okay we will inform the housekeeping.

The staff was really personable from the valets to Jorge to the counter staff. The hotel has a very appealing luxury façade but wait until you get to the room. The room air conditioner did not cool the room. The ceiling had what looked like "black mold" but at closer look may be lent from the air conditioner vent. The room area that housed the ice maker looked very neglected which made me feel that the hotel was beautiful on the surface only.
Close to the federal building. Rooms were not good. Beds were terrible. Possibly the worst hotel beds I have slept in. Noisy and kept the kids up as they are light sleepers. The hotel itself smelled old and the rooms did as well. There was mold in the inside bath/shower unit. We left the hotel as soon as we could. Staff were fantastic. The employees in the hotel did a great job.
Very clean. Could not get toothpaste sent to room after housekeeping had left and needed to go down to front reception. Person at the desk that hour was not customer oriented.

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous! It was much nicer than I was expecting - felt like a boutique hotel. Our room was spacious and had all the amenities we needed. I also loved the Urban Star Market - great selection of food and drink items, and convenient hours. The location was perfect too, as I had easy access to the various parts of the city I needed to get to during my stay. I will definitely come back to this hotel the next time I am in Houston, and will recommend it to family and friends. Parking is valet only, but service was fast so it wasn't an inconvenience at all.
not a thing it was terrible! They gave me a bad room in front over freeway to get even for getting discount rate, noise all night long, two nights they had 50-100 dump trucks and other semis right outside my window. They showed up starting about 10:30 pm and went till about 1-2 am Tuesday night and Monday night. They also have very bright lights out side each bedroom which comes through old work blinds. So noise and light make for poor night sleep. They don't clean rooms till late after noon I don't think I should have to pay they put me (the only person I saw on the 7 th floor 100 yards from one of the main freeways going into Houston trucks and cars and workers all night long. In mornings on ramp is right out side window so people gunning motors to access the freeway. And there were empty rooms in other spots people were getting I think going through you, getting a lower rate they punished me by putting me there. Pool was full of slim. I have pictures and video of trucks waking me up in middle of night and they didn't care! I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY and they could have cared less! Would never stay there again big front to poor rooms TV channels were all bad unless you paid for some thing! No sleep for two days!

Close to where we needed to be. Ckean Traffic noise ALL NIGHT LONG. Air conditioning constantly on- off - on -off. Just noisy.

Love the hotel. Staffs are great and very friendly. The hotel location is prefect and easy to get to. Not to impress with the breakfast buffet. The buffet make the hotel look cheap. Being it is a Crowne Plaza , the buffet make it feel like a Quality Inn breakfast experience. I was expecting a nice setup with omelet and bacon, fresh fruit etc.. The service was not good either,. Servers did not refill coffee or come by to check on you or even pick up dirty plates . I had to get my own coffee refill . Then one of the server call last call on the breakfast buffet. Last call??? Never seen that one before when someone called last call on a buffet with the restaurant full of guest. .....Over all, the hotel is very nice and the staffs are friendly. I would still stay there but won't do the buffet.

Location is excellent for shopping. Hotel staff is friendly and very kind. Air conditioning in the room doesn't work well. I saw three guests who have breakfast complaining about dirty grass of orange juice, my case was lipstick mark on the glass.
I liked that the hotel was connected to the Galleria Mall-the most outstanding "mall" I had ever visited!

Although I arrived after 11:00 PM, I was greeted promptly, professionally and courteously. When it was discovered there had been an error in my booking information (Not by the hotel itself), they addressed and resolved the issue immediately. My room was spacious, clean. Self-parking was free. There was no ramp for my rolling luggage between the parking garage and the hotel elevator. This, however, was a minor inconvenience.
