Good breakfasts available from the hotel restaurant. Price was only $3.00US for anything on the menu. The room needed routine maintenance. Light bulbs out and not replaced, missing shower door, shower head was broken and not replaced until 3rd day. The view from the roof deck is awful due to construction going on all around. The staff is given little authority to make simple decisions. For example, there was a mix up about our breakfast charge. Instead of being able to correct it immediately the staff had to call the manager at home to get his ok. I can't imagine what would happen if there were a real emergency!
The location is half a block from the beach and half a block from 5th Avenue. Our room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The AC was great. The shower was hot and had good water pressure. The beds were comfortable, and the housekeeping was great. As soon as we arrived Fanny was at the front desk and we saw her every evening. Her friendliness was so genuine and we loved seeing her and we came and went about our day. She even gave us a wedding gift as she knew we were moving to a resort to get married after our checkout at Illusion. We had the breakfast included package, which was a simple continental spread with an amazing fresh fruit bowl each day. We paid a couple extra dollars to order some eggs off the menu, which was great value. Our server each morning was Alberto who was always so friendly and attentive. Carlos, the concierge, was great at booking us some excursions as well as making some recommendations for a few restaurants to check out off the main strip. Would stay here again when returning to Playa del Carmen.
The outdoor space, the service and breakfast. The outdated room and damp smell in it.
This was our second stay at Illusion Boutique Hotel. After a year away, it was nice to see familiar faces at the front desk as well as re-connect with the hotel Manager, Yesica. We found birthday and anniversary "surprises" in our room on more than one occasion and always had warm and friendly interaction with all staff members of the hotel.
The staff were so nice and did everything they could to please us, the best service I've ever gotten. The location is amazing, just in the center of everything.
This hotel has a great, unique and expensive look but the prices are so much better for comparable hotels in less desireable locations. If we return to Playa we'll be staying at Kinbe. They kept the rooms very clean but the product they use smells very harsh.
A very stylish place to stay. Close to the beach, warm and friendly staff, beautiful rooms. A very romantic atmosphere.
ease of location, friendliness of staff, clean and affordable
convenient location, friendly staff
crazy humidity, us could not be lived
good staff, prety design of the hotel and the rooms, great location (almost on the beach and close to all the main things in playa), nice small out-door pool and not too expensive. I recomnd this hotel. no breakfast.
The staff was very friendly and helpful in orienting us to Playa, since it was our first trip. The hotel is conveniently located a half block from the beach, and they have an arrangement with the beach club at the corner, giving guests a 10% discount to use chairs, get food and drinks.
Swimming pool is nice and breakfast though simple, is better than usual coffee+pastry. It includes eggs, toast and coffee/OJ. The hotel is 2 blocks from 5th Ave and 3 blocks from the beach. It can be a downside because on one night there was too much action with karaoke singing under our windows until 5 am in the morning. Water was shutting off for 30 min-1h several times each evening. Our fridge was not working and I had to beg to exchange it since we needed to store baby's milk. AC was broken as well but someone came to fix it fast enough. Similarly, I had to ask several times to have 3rd towel delivered to both rooms thou we paid a 3-person rate for each. Overall, customer service is lacking.
Location of the hotel was excellent for seeing the town centre, and there were plenty of restraunts and bars within easy walking distance. The included continental breakfast was very poor, without even any bread or toast.
Simpel clean hotel for travelers on a budget. The staff is really friendly and willing to help. The hotels is located one block from the beach and 5th avenue. There is also a simple breakfast included in the price. One of the few hotels in real Mexican style in Playa During the weekend there was alot of noise due to the german bar behind the hotel. Nothing earplugs can't take.
The location was great. No pool, no in room tv, low shower water pressure and very small rooms
location and the hotel staff nothing
I like that every morning someone came in your room to clean it So every day was like arriving to a clean room. (Superior King) free wifi, AC I loved everything about my stay (1 week). The price was great. It's walking distance from the beach and 5th avenue. The staff is great. There is a little restaurant right across(casa tucán) the have the best guacamole. So happy the hotel is right in front. I would definitely book again!
The ambiance of the hotel, the location, it's a quiet place and Wifi access for free.... that's a great place for this price. I recommend it. bed is a little hard
Location and price - 24 hour internet stopped working at 11 pm - shower was awful..water dripped out...and that was after having it replaced 4 times - no water in the morning to shower or flush toilet - mosquitos and ants in the room and bed - loud music all night long - bed was like sleeping on cement block
I liked the hammocks outside the rooms The aircon didnt work, and the breakfast was a joke: you have to choose between a bowl of corn flakes or one piece of bread.
Good location and pleasing decor - very tranquil. Helpful hotel staff. Free telephone and internet services. We had booked a room for three people - the third bed made it very cramped - there was nowhere to unpack or hang clothes or move around once we were all in. While it was absolutely fine for two people I wouldn't recommend it for three.
Hotel staff was knowledgable about local activities and helpful. The booking.com site listed the hotel as having a shuttle service included in the price of the room. This in incorrect. The shuttle service is nothing more than the hotel calling a cab for you. You are responsible for all charges from the taxi. This was poor advertising on someones fault and I would not have booked this hotel if I had known that. Also some of the widows were nothing more than screens with wooden shutters. It meant the rooms had little sound insulation.
great place for the price. good location. only a block or so from 5th (shops, bars, restaurants) about 3 blocks from beach and easy access to public transportation; bus station. reception staff friendly, helpful and accommodating. 2 guys (1 each day) overseeing continental breakfast were not friendly or cordial at all. which is not a huge deal, except if you are in the business of serving people, it is important to note.
location standard plus rooms could have been nicer for money.
The Hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful Only some of the noise with the building works
courtesy and relax
location, cleanliness, friendly staff, beautiful hotel
Some noise due to its central location in Playa del Carmen.
We love the courtyard, the restaurant and the overall general appearance of the hotel. We enjoyed the hot tub as it was quite cool in the evenings. The layout and appearance of the pool and surroundings are very attractive. The bed sheets are really awful though, should definately be upgraded to a softer, more luxurious material. Also the room decor is very stark and unappealing. Horrible mustard yellow curtains and no artwork or decoration at all. These factors, unless improved, would definately deter me from future bookings or recommendations. The pool is also very cold and uninviting as far as temperature goes.
Staff was excellant; very friendly and accommodating. Hotel grounds were impeccable. Pleasant surroundings, great location in Playa del Carmen. Not enough area by the pool for sunning.
Great staff. Great location. Rooms are so-so. Nice pool and very good bistro. Noisy hotel. Construction and the night club in the same block contributed too much noise.
Excellent... Beautiful hotel in great location Our room on the 3rd floor had a leak in the shower room / area, which leaked all over the floor and left a slight 'damp' smell in the room. But apart from this - everything else was excellent.
Great location, comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful pool and garden area.
The position is excellent and the rooms were beautifully presented and well equipped There was a lot of noise all night from a nearby disco.
Big rooms, seperated bedrooms, friendly and very personal service. The hotel was great, but the surrounding area is a bit of a partyzone
The location of the hotel is excellent.one minute from the beach and the parties are right outside ur door but when u decide to go back to your room the music won't bother you a bit!!The service was excellent as well as the cleanliness of the room!!make sure to visit the rooftop !it's amazing!! Even though they said they offered wireless service me and my friends could not get any!
the closeness to the beach cockroaches, loud noise and no hammock
First of all, the location is perfect: one block from the beach, one block from Quinta Avenida, the main street. Large suite with lots of space, kitchen facilities, and small patio with tub. The main room was dark and nearly windowless. This surprised me when I first went in. The bedroom, however, has patio doors and was nice. The entrance area of the hotel is very basic and there are no common areas, and other hotels in the area are much nicer in this respect.
Very close to 5th Ave and the beach. We stayed in Suite 2 and if we closed the doors to the bedroom we didn't hear any late night noise even though it was Spring Break.
We were looking for accomodation where we could experience some of mexico rather than be huddled away in some extravagant resort. The location of the blue pearl was perfect for what we were after, we were able to walk to the beach, walk to the shopping area for dinner and just enjoy the area. The actual accomodation at hotel was fantastic, very clean, heaps of room and the staff were lovely - highly recommend
optimal location in walking distance from beach and main shopping street with bars, restaurants, malls, and shops. Apartment is well equipped and terrace/balcony is spacious and private.
Proximity to beach, restaurants; plenty of space to relax; option to prepare own simple meals; pleasant modern design. Sometimes a bit noisy because of nightlife - music from clubs, guests coming in very late.
very comfortable appartment. good self-catering facilities. lovely balcony hot tub. lovely cooling roof top plunge pool with views over carribean. everybody very friendly. a bar (even an honesty bar) on the rooftop would have been awesome!
Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Beach two blocks away. Great location. Great breakfast. Mattress was too firm.
We absolutely loved Hotel El Punto which is located in the heart of Playa Del Carmen on 5th Avenue. We were mere steps away from it's bustling shops, restaurants, and nightlife. This boutique hotel is modern in design and the rate is unbeatable. The staff were also extremely accommodating and helpful. Breakfast was included a couple of blocks away at a hip restaurant on the beach. We highly recommend this hotel The wireless internet did not work in the rooms. You had to go downstairs to access the internet.
The staff super friendly, the location and the price were good. There was something wrong with the toilet and the whole room smelled like poop. We didn't ask to change rooms because we only needed to stay one night and i overheard the hotel was full for the night. If you're there to party like us, you probably won't mind the noise and loud music coming from the bars.
Hotel room was large and stylish. Front desk was friendly and helpful with suggestions of what to do during my stay. I would definately stay there again.
Fantastic location. Noise would only be a problem if you want to go to bed early. If you do then don´t stay anywhere on 5th Ave!. Hotel was fantastic, Clean, Bathrooms were very small however the hotel was spotlessly clean. If your looking for a great hotel thats close to all the action and has a great rooftop bar with a great atmosphere then I would defiantly recommend this fantastic hotel. Its perfect for short visits to a great place!...Loved it. If I have to pick anything I would say the size of the bathrooms..VERY!!!! small.....But its not a big fault really.
very nice and modern hotel, right on the main 5th av street, very close to the beach. the breakfast is in a great beach club and the food is great and also the atmospher where you can spend the whole day .we loved the nice rooftop Bar. other then that we had a great time in Playa del carmen!!!
The hotel is phenomenal! What a great place to stay on 5th Avenue in Playa. I would recommend it to anyone. I was there for a business trip and stayed for two nights. The restaurant upstairs had great food and a wonderful atmosphere. The shopping is one step outside the door and seconds to the beach. I will stay her again!
Activities restaurants beach chairs Front desk staff not very friendly.
Affordable for the level of service provided
Nice layout, landscaping and beach access. The quality of the food was lacking at the buffett. Finding out upon arrival, that depending on the number of days you were staying, granted how many restaraunts you were allowed to dine at. Very disappointed in that since the buffett food was bad.
Perfect location, very friendly and proffesional staff. All in all a very nice hotel which We would visit again. Would be nice with included breakfast.
Proximity to the beach. Clubs next door are a little loud
there are several nightclubs in the vicinity of the hotel that play loud music until 4am on thursdays & fridays, which is a drag if you like peace and quiet.
On waikiki beach, starbucks at ground floor. Old furniture, small bathroom. The staff is not very kind. Wifi available only in the common areas.
Good position, amazing ocean view, hammock in the balcony, very clean, kind staff, nice little pool. There was also a mini breakfast includeed (mini croissants and coffee). The room is fantastic: comfortable bed, fridge, microwave, safety box, free water to drink and coffe. Good prices for beers and drinks in the room. The indigo restaurant near the hotel on the beach is cheap and fantastic (you can order from your sunbed). There is a little noise (only music) all the nights till the 4-5 in the morning because is near the streets of discos. There are too many boats in front of the beach (but it's a problem of all Playa del Carmen). Be careful when you pay because they made a mistake and i was paying 300 dollars more than my booking. It's because they make you pay in Pesos, but they didn't it voluntarily.
Staff very friendly and always willing to help, clean rooms, great balcony with a hammock you can just relax in all day long, even if its raining. Great location. Very recommended.
location ( central ) , friendy staff , nice , clean and big rooms no parking space
Good value, on the beach, clean and nice room, quiet Pool is really small but the ocean is right there
Loved our stay on the beach.
Great ocean views. I felt pampered by the superior, friendly staff. Loved the fresh towel creations each day. Grounds well kept, location perfect- access to beach, numerous places and activities. Thank you, our stay in Playa Palms made our vacation very pleasurable.
we loved the hammock!!! The loud music from the beach bars next door kept me from sleeping until 4am and on a saturday morning at 8am construction next door started... Not exactly what we had paid for!!
I waited in the reception of the Nina for 40 mins while they looked for my reservation, I literally fell asleep waiting for the reservation was confirmed. Then I was moved to a very run down group of hotels in the centre of playa. First they wanted me to walk with 4 prices of luggage 10 blocks, I protested about the move and being expected to walk to new location. Desk clerk assured me it was a better hotel. Told me I had been upgraded. Arrived at El Turkan via taxi, taken to the wrong entrance and left in the street with four pieces of luggage (2 heavy suitcases) I even had to get the bags out of the trunk myself. Then drag them all around to reception were another moron looked at me like I was from Mars. They had no clue who I was before I arrived. I was given a red wrist band and again I complained but was told it was required to identify me as a guest. I am a consultant so wearing a wristband to meetings is not optimal. Room had no fridge, no water but it did have four beds. The hinges on the door were broken so getting in and out was tricky and I had a nice 2 inch gab at the top of the door. After complaining and explaining that I needed a fridge to keep my thoroxine (medication) cool the manager told me none of the hotels in Mexico have bar fridges! I disagreed and ask to cancel but because I booked online they could not change or cancel. They said Nina hotel also was without fridges. I contacted getaroom and that afternoon a bar fridge was brought to my room with two small bottles of water. On the evening of Wednesday I went with my work friend back to the room to change for dinner. They were not allowed to enter the building by security. Security radioed reception saying I was trying to bring a prostitute to my room. Disgusting situation developed with the hotel staff demanding $20us for my friend to enter, I explained she was not staying the night as she lives here Playa. She translated the conversation and they were calling her a prostituite. First morning I went to breakfast and was charged $95pasos for bad coffee and small bottle of water because I had been issued the wrong colour wristband. I complained and asked for the pasos back but no way that was happening. Red was replaced with green and next morning in the restaurant I was given a glass of horrible orange concentrate and the worst cup of coffee I have ever been given in my life (I left both) but the best was yet to come the rude water pointed over to the empty Buffett and told me that white bread and the toaster was there for me. No fruit no cereal no nothing. Being gluten intolerant due to my thyroid condition I passed on preparing my own toast. 3 calls to getaroom and 4 emails but not a single response. I will not be booking anything via Kayak again...
The hotel staff was extremely helpful! Our passport was stolen, and they went over and beyond to help us with all their connections. the aircon was leaking drops
Although a room with two beds was requested it was unavailable when we arrived. The manager on duty worked to accomodate us by contacting the larger parent hotel (Tukan). We were told that they could accommodates with a room with a king size bed the first night of our stay and possibly change to a room with two beds the subsequent night. After transferring to the Tukan, the room offered only had a single queen size bed. When we complained about the bait and switch were told we'd misinterpreted and offered a transfer to a room with two beds but that we could not change again. We were then delivered to a room with a broken air conditioning unit. I would never stay in a property owned by Tukan Hotels again.
The employees were very devoted, always smiling and ready to help. The free wireless access works perfectly. The location is great. The hotel is very clean. An excellent quality/price ratio. the airconditionning was down but there was a fan on the ceiling which worked perfectly
Nice location It was confusing at check-in since our hotel room at Nina was apparently under construction so they transfered our registration to their sister hotel and we had to walk several blocks to Tukan resort for a room there. They said it was an upgrade and although the main facility looked nice, our room was located a block away in a different building . The room was mediocre, no more than 3 stars, and noisy at night due to close proximity of a dance club bar.
Staff, friendliness, Spanish tapas and Spanish guitar at restaurant. Parking in building, pools, garden, courtyard, balcony. Quiet for inner city. Beach towels. Price. Bathroom, clunky, loud air con, pillows, bed linens and bedspread. Dark room. Breakfast options wide but quality average.
I liked the small pool where I could do water exercises.
The French staff and Filo were a breath of fresh air.... They are honest, helpful people (nice after the staff at Grand Royal Lagoon in Cancun stole all of our money). I left my favorite swimsuit in the hotel... they had it bagged and waiting for me 5 days later. The location is fabulous, and the A/C was too cold :). Nice sized rooms. No extras or frills - but, none wanted. TV is $13 for your stay.
location Air conditioning didn't work and had to change room. No soap in room. After changing room TV was removed the next day.
The outside area around the pool was pretty. The breakfast was very good. The sheets are amazing to bad the bed wasn't! The room lacked comfort. The bed was hard as a rock. The T.V. is a joke, it's a computer screen with bad reception. No water is provided to even brush your teeth. The blinds for the shower window were gone. I can only compare this room to my college dorm, just more run down. The staff seemed nice at first, but they did not go out of their way to be helpful. Example: Wanted to buy a Coke at the restaurant but was told it was to early and i had to wait til lunch! Huh! I was impressed by the softness of the sheets and inquired about them. You would of thought I was asking for State Secrets. The girl at the desk would not give up any information. She came off very rude! My spanish is defiantly sub-par but I was trying. She quickly corrected me and made me feel stupid! Then to make worse, told me she spoke english, but it was in such a demeaning way! When we checked out, we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay. The only statement was, need your remote controls from the room! Didn't even say goodbye! we didn't feel welcome at all!!!
Great location on 5th Ave. Friendly staff. Exerlent value. Very clean. Pool on doorstep. Lcd TV. Fridge. AC. Fan.
The shower area was beautiful with two ceiling shower heads. Unfortunately, the showers had no hot water. We reported it to the desk at 8:30. We then went for breakfast, then shopping. When we returned at 11:15, there was still no hot water and we were checking out at noon. Upon checkout, we again complained. The front desk staff said they had someone check it out and it was working okay. It definitely wasn't since on shower was turned to cold and the other to hot. Maybe a 5 degree difference. Lots of apologies, but no offer of compensation I've stayed over 600 nights at Marriott hotels, over a hundred at Sheraton hotels. NEVER have I been treated this way over a mechanical problem. DON'T stay here. Lots of glitz but no real concern for the guests and their comfort.
