Nice location; great staff. Mattress was uncomfortable, it sunk in the middle.
We had a peasant stay!
Nice environment, clean, comfortable & quiet The double bed is relatively small, and the bed sink a little bit in the middle
location, room and amenities. great business center should not charge for internet access
A very new hotel. Excellent view (some of the rooms), modern and good quallity fixtures. Very well located. Excellent price/quallity Relativelly expensive add-ins (parking, breackfast, internet etc)
Original lobby decoration, clean room, nice view, very calm place. The staff were very kind and helpful but inexperienced and not efficient. Problematic service, needs amelioration. We were definitely expecting much better from a 5* hotel. Clearly overpriced breakfast (choice and quality: can do much better). Average SPA quality.
I liked the staff ,but no free breackfast inspite of high amount of mony . The river side was boring . Nothing to do .!!
Very professional staff, beautiful hotel, clean, wonderful pool/spa area. When we arrived, they only had one booking (instead of two booked rooms). They booked us directly themselves for the 2nd room. I hope that we are not charged twice for that room.
That it was situated next to the Rhine The extra charges, i.e. garage parking
Good location and comfortable room. Breakfast buffet was impressive cost of parking
Service was too good. Everything was good.
Good breakfast and location Wi-fi at $20 a night.
It's location was ideal-- Lack of use of a computer for internet. Not everyone has a laptop. Later learned that there seemed to be a computer available as airline crew members were using it. Did not appreciate the lack of knowledge about this computer and the attitude of the staff about using a computer. Was willing to pay a fee but that option not available.
Great location, easy access to Rhine River cruise departures and scenic wine routes. Mainz offers a variety of nightlife, shopping and food choices, all within easy walking from this hotel. Construction/renovation at the hotel appears to be completed. Added a very nice restaurant.
Apart from being a wonderful hotel, I would like to state that the staff were the most friendly, courteous, polite people I have met in a hotel in a long time. They couldn't do enough to help in any situation, directions, taxi's etc and they also wished us, as Irish soccer supporters the best of luck for the game !!
Convenient, expensive, lifeless. Excessive changes for food. Look elsewhere.
The staff assisted my with all my desires, and even helped arrange for a replacement rental car! Absolutely the best hotel in the region.
Staff were friendly and efficient. Hotel was undergoing renovations and hence some facilities were not available or were relocated. Believe hotel should have informed us of this so we could have reviewed our decision to stay there. Also hotel used by air crews who are very noisy and inconsiderate.
Roomy room No wifi in room unless you paid
Tea making facilities in room, central to city centre, easy access to bus routes, excellent breakfast but a little dear at €21 Poor bar facilities
They upgraded us to a river view room because we were there between the holidays. Then when they found out it was our anniversary, they left a fruit plate and bottle of wine in our room.
It was very close to the train station. You could walk to the main part of Mainz in a few minutes.
The receptionist was very helpful. The continental breakfast was excellent. The shower drained slowly
The convenience of the hotel to the old part of town , the rail station and to the airport.Enjoyed seeing old town and visiting areas close by.
Location. Right across the street from rail station and tram stops
Great location in center of Mainz ,opposite the Train station it is great for futhrer trips to Rhein region.Great value for money, clean room with air con and comfortable bed+ good choice for breakfast, makes stay at hotel Hammer nice experience. We are coming back.
Location, and we had a very nice room with a view over the transport center plaza. It was not noisy and made for interesting viewing of people, trains, buses, taxis, trolleys and bicycles all making their way to somewhere. It was picturesque with evening lighting. We used the convenience of the train station after sailing the Rhein from Mainz to Koblenz. We rode the train back to Mainz and were steps from the hotel. The restuarant was not open in the evening. It is difficult to find by car, but excellent for public transportation.
Great location. Not noisy at all (unless we had the windows open!). Great staff, very helpful and friendly. The spa was not really much of a spa...old and not very appealing.
We stay at the Hammer am Bahnhof every year. Coming and going to the L. A. area these are our arriving and leaving stops in Europe. I knew Mr. Hammer, and I must say that the new management is at least as good as the old one, in serving their guests as it was by Mr. Hammer. Connections to all international train lines. Rine/Main ship tours. 20 minutes from the Airport FRA by train to Mainz.
Very friendly staff, quiet room, fast and smooth elevator. Due to a wrong entry in the databank, I was first given a room that hadn't been prepared by the chambermaid. The clerk apologized genially carrying my bag while taking me to a new room and gave me a voucher for a free drink for compensation.
Proximity to the center of the town No free internet access and parking is too expensive!
Customer service No
very nice staff, good location no free internet
Outstanding hotel - very pleasant room within easy walking distance to main square and sights. Very good restaurant with exceptional range of food for breakfast. The quality of the food and cooking was superior to all other hotels we stayed in across Germany and France, including more expensive hotels! Very quiet room and friendly staff. A baby cot was provided for free, complete with rubber ducky which was a nice touch. Would definitely stay again.
Close to historic center and train station. Good alternative to staying in Frankfurt.
Conveniently located for my meetings. Friendly and helpfull staff. Good looking lobby and rooms. Too quiet, no ambience, no live music.
Expensive Internet: €22/day is a bit too much.
Near the center, friendly staff
very helpful staff, walking distance to city center,
Clean, comfortable and modern. Easy free parking on site. No Tea / Coffee facilities in room. Breakfast an expensive option at Euro16.
that wifi internet was an expensive add on.
Easy parking. close to bus stop to town, friendly staff It was a little hard to find - signage was poor
The room was clean. The price was to high and it did not have any facilities. Decoration was poor.
No coffee machine in the room with complimentary coffee for "early risers" like myself.
Thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the hotel. Excellent staff, good car parking and excellent restaurant. I would certainly stay again next time we visit the area. No
friendly and helpful staff
all newly renovated and refurbished in an industrial area, not suitable without a car
No iron/ironing board, staff had problems supplying one
Good location for work on the west side of Mainz with easy access to the Autobahn system. And, a McDonald's across the street, as well as a large shopping center nearby. Breakfast is outrageously expensive. High cost of wireless.
The attitude and service of the staff was excellent! The rooms were comfortable, and well maintained. N/A
Very comfortable and clean rooms. The staff was extremely helpful and we really appreciated the fact that we were given a free ride ticket for local buses and trains to Wiesbaden.
It was centrally located in Mainz near the Bahnhof with parking downstairs below the hotel. Reception personnel (except for Sunday morning) were not very friendly. No greeting, no smiling...I felt like I was an inconvenience. Also, I noticed there was only one towel in the bathroom for my wife and I. I called at 1600 and asked for another towel. I had to call again at 2030 because we still did not have another towel. Not a very good response for a 4-star hotel.
Good location, easy access to train station, comfortable rooms. Portions of the building can be noisy at night (street noise), when requesting an iron for the 3rd time, the front desk simply told me maybe all the staff was busy and shrugged off the service request. I left with wrinkled clothes.
Spacious, quiet and extremely convenient to railway station and main attractions. Enjoyed a nice dinner. Appreciated public transport passes and their convenience to the hotel. no
Easy access to transport means (bus and train), clean rooms. Nothing special.
Clean and modern, easy to use room facilities. Easy to access from the train station. Free internet access which is speedy enough for watching websites and reading news but no good for skype or multimedia Small fridge with drinks (chargeable) which can accommodate a few small additional items. Public transport (which is extremely effective) free during the stay to the hotel and steps away from the hotel entrance. Staff friendly and helpful. Access to the parking facility not clearly signposted and charged additionally at 15 euros a day - this is not clear when booking via Kayak (hotel probably not responsible for this). Visitor has to choose between the noise of the air conditioning and the noise of the traffic if opening the windows. No facility to brew a cup of tea or coffee in the room. Speedier internet access available at a charge (not tried if really better than the free one).
Excellent hotel in ideal location. Great value for money and the cleanest room I have ever had.
Clean tidy good location near the train station, but not close enough to hear the noise of the trains. Staff very efficient and friendly, no problems at all.
The location to the railway /bus station. The staff were excellent and the room was comfortable and spacious. We were given a ticket on arrival which allowed free travel on bus and train within the Mainz/ Wiesbaden area. Bus/tram stop outside hotel. The price of breakfast.
Good location, comfortable beds, very clean rooms and hotel, staff was ok but could of been better. Internet was very expensive and so was the breakfast for what you get.
Personnel friendly and helpful.
The location of the hotel. Free parking. The hotel is worth max. 3 stars
The Contel Hotel Mainz was very nice, clean, and the staff was friendly and were very fluent in the English language. The breakfast buffet was also excellent. The hotel wasn't easy to get to. We arrived at night on the train and had a very hard time finding out how to get there. It was not close to a bus stop so we had to walk up a steep hill pulling our bags. They need to provide a shuttle.
Central location, so easy to get to Schott Mainz. Lovely room Yes, the shower - the head didn't work properly and needs replacing
the hotel was very clean and the staff exceptionally helpful. When we arrive the was no house keeping available and the reception staff came to arrange our daughter's bed. Very unfortunate that we were given as requested a no smoking room that has such an intense small of cigarettes and cigar that I had to keep the windows open all night and even spraying my parfume in the room many times didn't work. We got there late with a child who was very tired and had leave the following morning so couldn't be bothered to ask for a room change but I would have had to do it if I stayed another night. The smell of cigarette stayed with me all of the following day.
Doesn't look like much on the outside, but the interior was very nice and the room was large and looked newly renovated. Good breakfast. Lots of free covered parking. Was hoping for something closer to the old town of Mainz, but was fairly easy to go there by car (2 km away).
I like the view from the dining room where we had breakfast. A very comfortable hotel to stay. The breakfast was very good. it was a bit difficult to find or even get to if you carry a suitcase. Taking a taxi would be a sensible choice.
I think the Breakfast was the best part of my stay at Contel along with the view from the restaurant. I believe its too far away from the city center and the room was too small and the furniture was not upto the mark.
The breakfast The hotel is advertising as 4 star hotel but it looks like no more than 2.5 star. Very disappointing. The distance from hotel to Railway station is 10 min but in the opposite direction (up hill) is 30 min.
It is a nice, welcome hotel; very nice services; with a nice location and view;
Free parking was good It was good we had a car because it seemed slightly out of town? Overall a good experience here though
Quiet surroundings, excellent room and cleanliness, good breakfast, very helpfull staff Parking space was cluttered up with garbage containers, building materials and awkwardly placed pillars.
very nice hotel, the staff where very friendly and helpful.the breakfest was included in the cost and was great.free carpark is included.that is terrific in mainz. when i had a beer in the bar the waiter used a overflow glass of stale beer to top up my new glass of beer, unfortunatly my german is not that good to have a go at him, that was the last beer i had that night
Parking pacilities were very good so was breakfast. It's a quiet setting.
Generally satisfactory hotel al reasonable price. Spacious and clean room. No disturbance by noise. Room was rather warm, although no heating was on. No individual temperature control. Carpet floor not optimal for cleanliness. Hotel organised internet not functional.
hotel staff is extremly friendly and helpful far away from the center, and difficult to find
The room were beautiful, well equipped and big. The relation between price and benefits is very good. It is a little bit far from Mainz "downtown".
The location of the Hotel is good, and it has good facilities, and the staff are very friendly. The breakfast is also very good.
It was at the edge of Mainz, which kept it nice and quiet and easy to go in both directions: country or city. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I thought it was a great deal and I was more than satisfied with it.
Breakfast. Not a super friendly staff. They did the basics, and that was about it.
Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was adequate and location is in close proximity to town centre where restaurants and bars are in abundance with lots of things to see.
hotel was clean, breakfast ok, staff ok problem is the location - to far away from the center, busses are going in long time distances
A quiet and familiar hotel. Very clean. Breakfast was OK. There is no lift and the hotel ist far from the city center. Due to his location I consider it a bit expensive.
Nice hotel, nice staff. little too far away from Congress Centrum Mainz
good transport links and nice location
The very nice neighborhood, very calm and residential. The downtown is 10m by walking (descending the hill). Le cartier n'est pas loin du centre ville, il faut juste descendre la colline, pas très raide. A park no far from there, green areas
The staff was all friendly especially the owner who is very nice. They even arranged for a high chair for my son's use during the 2 weeks of our stay. There was no wireless internet as mentioned in the website. They said it will be installed next year. I also couldn't make a phone call or my relatives also couldn't mak a call to the hotel, don't know why.
Reasonable price, Italian restaurant as part of it. Decor is a bit tired.
Well managed hotel, helpful staff and excellent varied buffet breakfast.
Breakfast was great. Staff were freindly and very helpful. We enjoyed our stay. Not too far from downtown. Not one thing comes to mind.
The hotel was in an excellent location for getting to the Frankfurt airport. On a Sat am, it took only 20 minutes, door to door. Might be worse during week days.
We loved this hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There's lots to do in the hotel, especially for kids. This is definitely my 'favorite' hotel. maby thanks for a great few days.
I loved the park like setting of the Hotel.
Excellent facilities, staff and rooms. A superb breakfast and park setting.
Fresh room, top class!
This was a lovely hotel, beautifully located in a gorgeous park, within easy walking distance of the centre. The rooms were really stylish with a lovely view. Hotel staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. It was a real pleasure to stay in this hotel.
Rooms at the back are quiet and larger with balconies over the huge park and great views. Lovely bathroom and interesting modern room layout. Well run by the ever-present family team. Excellent restaurant which is well worth the high prices. Location is 10 mins out of town; busy hearty breakfast with groups of older citizens..
Location, friendly staff, excellent breakfast
The size of the rooms, the beds and the breakfast. The SPA area is nice although the decor of the pool is a little kitsch. The distance from the city centre (it's a 25 minute walk) and the fact that they did not clean our room.
Friendly people Long (but nice!) walk to city centre.
All was OK, staff was very nice Distance to Alt Stadt, but not a big problem
Very attentive and helpful staff. Quiet, suburban location. Reasonable prices - even for the mini-bar! Comfortable bed. Nice selection of food at buffet breakfast. General cleanliness. Would have liked more than one English language channel on tv, and a slightly bigger screen. I noticed a couple of small stains on the carpet. But I would be happy to stay at the Roemerstein again.
My stay was a pleasant experience before the long flight to the US. I enjoyed using the sauna, but found the pool too crowded with screaming children and parents who would not retrain them from jumping and yelling. I hope you can make a time for adults only to use the pool -- 8-10 pm?
no directions from the Frankfort airport, only from a local highway. room was too crowded ceiling too low from the bed. no elavator three flight of stairs for wife who had bad knee. shower wasn't enclosed enough because water spilled out on the bathroom floor.
There were no staff on-site at the hotel overnight. I booked the hotel because I believed that parking was on-site and I had to park on the road.
Room is good but, maintaining is poor and facilities are poor. Bathing tub is problematic very old one and with out any body soap. Breakfast is not good there is not so many items as it should in 3 star hotels.
The hotel was very clean. The advertised 'Queen bed' in the bedroom was in fact two single beds pushed together!!
Quiet place, friendly staff Needs refreshment, no restaurant
The hotel is perfectly located - couldn't be better. Just a 5-minute walk to the many shops, restaurants, farmers' market, & The Dom (cathedral) in the old town, a 15-minte walk form the main train and bus station, and literally across the street from the beautiful Rhein, where students, lovers, cyclists and runners can be found in droves. I had a room with large windows overlooking the Rhein river - it was fabulous. Nice and sunny in the morning, fresh breeze...and when the windows were closed, they completely shut out the noise of the city. The breakfasts were also very good - typically German - lots of great food to choose from. And the staff were very helpful, giving me maps and directions, etc. They also speak English.
Location and russian staff on reception
If you go for the Rhine river trip, this is a good location for the hotel Quite far away from Mainz HBF
The best feature of the hotel is its location. It overlooks the Rhine and is a nice short walk (10 to 15 minutes) along the riverfront to the centre of town where the Guttenburg museum and catherdral are to be found. Mainz is a town well worth a visit and this hotel is as good a centre as any.
High quality breakfast Far from the city center, parking place for extra fee, far from the hotel
Location was very good for us. Service was oké.
Good location, just few mins walk from train station. Friendly staff. Double room is along the main road, too noisy when the window is open.
The reception staff was very friendly and helpful to answer questions on how to reach a specific location in the suburbs. The room was spacious and pleasant with a nice view on a square full of trees. Very comfortable bed. Breakfast ok.
Great room, very close to tarin station and yet an easy walk to old city. I was at the Frankfurt Bookfair and it was no problem commuting from Mainz. It is also a very nice small city. No, all was well
A big modern room and bathroom, where we found everything we needed. Highly recommended! One of the nicest hotels i have ever been, comparable with 4star.
Clean with decent size single rooms. Quiet and central location ideal for station and Mainz centre. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
no wireless internet in the room.
The quietness - and the efficiency of the staff. The room - and the lobby - were a bit on the warm side.
I like the room, fan and the warm water!
A quiet stay near the motorway and within 2 miles of the inner city without the noice and the high prices It is a bit difficult to checkin late
Customer service, character hotel and good, inclusive breakfast. Close to bus Bit of aeroplane noise
Waking up late because the location inside a courtyard was so peaceful although a stone's throw from the Rhine and busy road and railway. The walk along the Rhine into town made it a bonus being just outside the centre. Good personal service. We were asked what time we wanted breakfast!
The hotel was chosen as nothing else was available.
