It was the complete package excellent location and range of resturants.
very relaxing with a nice beach The water tap was broken and the toilet and half of the living area became wet.
The staff tried hard and were very courteous I picked up a gastric virus and spent the whole time in my hotel room. My fiancee stepped on a rusty nail (which was not rectified after the incident) and we had to make a trip to the local doctor for a tetnus etc (not ideal for me as i was really not well). Everything in the room looked nice but was not well built, i.e. everything was slightly loose. We booked a Spa suite to end our honeymoon and was disappointed with the Spa Suite wing. It is located approx 1 mile from the main wing (not 400m as stated on their website!!) and the only way to access the main resort after dark is by shuttle bus. Again not ideal if not feeling great. The dining options at the spa suite block is very poor (Dive Bar One).
First class beach, and good choice of restaurants nothing
Food and facilities were Ok. Great beachside massage. Staff try hard and are friendly but poor training and non-existent management overwhelm any efforts they might make. Poor maintenance. Dreadful service. Like almost everything tourism-related in Sabah (except street food, which is brilliant and cheap), seriously overpriced for the level of service and quality. Food was bland and laughably over-priced when compared to local restaurants. Isolated location means you are stuck here far from the 'real' Sabah experience.
We liked special the choices of restaurants and the excellent quality of the food. Also the setting of the whole complex is excellent We could not found anything negative about our stay
Pool Villa - Location, location, location! Staff very friendly and trying to be helpful. Good choice at breakfast, but slow keeping up with demand - often ran out of items (fruit, yoghurt, bread etc). The Pool Villa had kitchenette with hob, fridge/freezer, sink, kettle and lots of cupboard space - lovely! But there were only a few plates, 4 cups/saucers and 4 glasses, 4 tablespoons, 4 teaspoons and 4 forks. That's it. No saucepans or knives - not even a butter knife! When we challenged staff we were told that we are only supposed to do "light cooking eg soups" - without soup bowls and saucepan?! Not good. We also had to "fight" to get a parasol (which was clearly shown in their brochure). Needless to say, we bought essentials ie can opener, corksrew, sharp knife, scissors etc at reasonable cost from supermarket (own transport recommened - 15 min drive from resort, although shuttle service is provided). Also, we think it was overpriced
The food & beach No
Beach, sea, relax free easy and the outdoor activities. Rather far to travel to the water sport centre. Room come with Breakfast for 2 only. Hotel should consider for those family with younger children <12 years will be nice. Not much choices for other food and price is expensive compare to KK city town area.
Every thing The A/C
amazing. all amazing hmm, not a fan of the jungle walk. too long, plus too many mosquitos and pythons!
Wonderful location, excellent service from happy, friendly staff. Lovely pool that is good for swimming - not just a "leisure" pool. freshly cooked breakfast on the veranda delivered by boat! The arm chairs in the room are really uncomfortable.
Beautiful nature and view. The cottages are clean and nice. Loved that many fishes and birds can be seen, quiet and only sounds of cicada is around. Great for relaxing. Food was over-priced, not many choices for long stay. As the access to mainland is difficult, would be nicer if there are more choices and local dishes available.
The hotel is situated in a beautiful island in front of Kota Kinabalu. Pros are:location, hotel staff, snorkeling in front of the hotel is very nice, possibility to go also to the other hotel, by a free boat ride, that offers a magnificient beach in the morning-afternoon for free, Marine center where you can go and touch some sea-stuff. Restaurants.:I read some comments about the restaurants being a bit expensive, Think to choose your own fish from reproduction thanks by having the menu in your hand and that is not expensive . Personnel was very efficient: because of a sudden noise to air conditioning in the room we were offered immediately to change room. You wonder if sometime in an Eco marine resor, waters could be a little be cleaner, but when we and currents arrives this happens. Room prices are a little bit on the high side,
The staff were excellent! MERC was a nice experience. We had a superb seafood meal - snorkelling was great - as was the kayaking. Being able to swim and snorkel from our room was a real experience - the kids would swim over to say hi! The drinks in the evening at the Latitude Bar was a really lovely touch. We had some really quality family time there - intimate, personal atmosphere. We would definitely return - and split our time between Bungaraya and Gayana. Our initial impression was a little disappointing - location superb, however we had not been given adjoining rooms as requested (travellling with a 12 and 16 yr old) and the 'breakfast delivered to your room by boat' was not available. Having said that, the management were very quick to respond- change rooms for us asap and provided the breakfast we wanted. The intimate, personal atmosphere was superb - we wanted to stay longer! Only other comment would be that the first morning, breakfast was really lovely - small buffet and a la carte. The next 2 mornings were not as nice - obviously problems with the chefs or something - menu not offered although we were able to order.
