I liked the fact it was close to nightlife, shops, parks and restaurants. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. I was greeted with a glass of champagne as soon as I walked in the door to check in. I would stay here again and would recommend it to friends. The only thing that was a downfall was my bed was a bit hard. My friend as staying in another room and his bed was as soft as could be. I guess I got a bum deal when it came to my bed...
The location to the center of the center is the only plus! The construction and the smell of raw sewage made me sick to my stomach. They pictures are obviously doctored bcause the rooms were small! They charged me $80 USD extra because I brought another person! This place sucks and will never stay there again!
Il like the Food it is very clean and the staff was very nice the wifi was very good no issues I didn't like the bed very uncomfortable and the towel wasn't great they need new bed and towels my body was kind of ache by sleeping in the bed
For the price, nothing about this hotel was really worth it. I didn't like anything. The shower was very small, the way they set up the minibar was deceitful. I figured the stuff was free to make up for such low quality. Literally over $60 for snacks you could get at a store for $10 or less. There's a little booklet that had prices but it's basically hidden. They did that on purpose. The room had nothing special in it. Felt kind of gross too but it was pretty expensive. I can't recommend this place.
Nice staff- reasonably clean. Not at all luxurious. Had to request towels and some basics daily. Very small rooms. Terrace is nice. Good if you need a place to sleep and won't be spending much time on the property. Friendly staff. Good price Two small towels daily- no hand towels, wash clothes, etc. small small rooms. Bed not great. Sheets not great. Shower did not have hot water some days.
gorgeous building, interior, and courtyard design. it really is unique and mazelike; i was smitten. (i'm from california so i'm floored by anything > 100 years old.) décor is like a regal columbus-fanboy/conquistador-chic, the zealotry of which i found somehow both zinn-esquely uncomfortable and museum-patron aesthetically pleasing. our room had tons of space, an antechamber with a few couches, a great bathroom (jet tub!, separate shower, separate toilet, bidet), an adorable relic of a pc with a 3.5" floppy drive, decent wifi (got dropped a few times but it was reasonably fast compared to what i'd seen in other cafés... just don't plan on playing an fps, etc.). we had the 5-crown room which i wouldn't normally spring for; there just wasn't vacancy in other rooms: it was the perfect hideaway to recharge and relax after walking around all day. so comfy :3 the location is perfect for exploring the zona colonial. my bf appreciated the a/c, which was very effective. nothing too bad, but staff was just okay, not super attentive and not particularly helpful when i had issues, i wouldn't consider them outright rude or anything though. e.g. -- i asked for a first aid kit or a bandage etc (in spanish) when my bf cut his foot and they just kinda shrugged and stared, so i just had to go outside and look for a pharmacy. -- i asked for the balcony door to be unlocked and they just never got around to it for the entire duration of my stay, etc. the free/not-free breakfast debacle: like another reviewer, i also was kind of confused when at checkin they said i had to pay for breakfast (the description said it was included). i chalked this up to an inaccurate description sent to the various hotelerie sites, and just assumed i'd pay for it a subset of the days, but then at checkout they didn't charge me for any of my breakfasts... so eh? if i had known it was actually included instead of hearing conflicting information i would have eaten breakfast there 100% of the time and saved some money : \ a lot of these might just be cultural differences, which is why i wanna reiterate that it wasn't too bad... i just wouldn't call it amazing service as i'd heard described in other reviews.
Quaint Clean Attentive staff Deliciouso breakfast! We had a junior suite on the main floor. The traffic noise woke us up on several occasions. Get a room on a higher floor TV was almost un watchable due to problems with the color. I reset it to the factory settings but no luck. AC was either full on or off. No in-between.
Hotel Palacio is a standing work of art. A very simple hotel filled with a consistent colonial homage throughout. The respectful Traveller will enjoy its location and proximity to authenticity. The bright light outside my door was annoying at night.
This hotel is a dream come true. We slept in a 17th century convent with all the modern amenities of this one. Hotel Employees have so much class & social skills that they can work in the best hotel in Paris. We can't think of anything. Really!!
This hotel was my favorite part of my trip to Santo Domingo. The hotel is a tourist attraction in its own right! It is simply beautiful! The hotel is also very conveniently located to all the attractions in the Zona Colonial and the Malceon. GREAT hotel! Leaving!
The historic aspect Location wasn't in the best neighborhood
It's location for some one who's vissiting the Island for the first time is excellent. Sitting in the balcony of our room and watching people goingby amazed me. To my humble opinion none.
Hotel has an excelent location in a historical plaza...close to shopping restaurants, historic sites. Rooms are adequate & priced well for location... sidewalk cafe below this 4 story hotel has very good food and is the most popular location among several of the same. Staff of hotel & wait staff the best...get a balcony room ...great for people watching down below in a crowded plaza.
The location was good and the hotel staff was friendly. It was also nice to be able to exchange money at a fair rate directly in the hotel. Extremely noisy, impossible to sleep in fact. Dirty floors and walls. Broken appliances (lamps and shower head). Must pay in advance and there is an additional charge for the hotel safe key even though the hotel has a posted sign in the room saying that they are not responsible for items left in the room. No elevators and the lobby itself is two flights of stairs up. Not a good value for your money.
it was in a good location
Well located, friendly helpful staff, clean room. Food at restaurant was good, safe for tourists. AC was good and balcony was nice. No elevator, took a tad long to check out.
I was dissappointed in booking.com because when I arrived at the hotel they did not have my reservation. Luckily they had an open room and we could just pay for the hotel right there. We were tired and hot from the plane ride. We were very tired. If they did not have any rooms, this email would not be so nice. I dont think I will use booking.com again.
close/walking distance to shopping areas,nice staff,prompt service,arquitecture no elevators
helpfullness of reception staff. restaurant staff inattentive, slow.orders placed several toimes before delivered to table, some of which were incorrect.
Interesting older hotel, nice foyers on each floor, nice stairwells, some rooms have great views of the square, hotel has dinning area on ground floor which opens to outside covered tables Hotels needs an update
Well the best thing about the Hotel is the location. It is at a plaza in the historic downtown of Santo DGO. The building has some colonial flair. The rooms are nothing special and rather small. What bothered me is that they asked 2 USD per day for the safe key and that internet is not for free (unless you have a WLAN). TV wasn't working in my room, but I didn't need it anyhow. The restaurant is ok and the waiters as well. Don't order a portion of french fries! You won't get enough and they're anyhow not tasty. Rather take a sandwich or pasta. A night is not worth 65 USD (single room) but if a central location is important
Location is excellent and staff very helpfull. Not well soundproofed from adjacent rooms( awake until 5 am one night because of conversations in next room) Poor service in restaurant but food was good( eg had to ask for glasses for mineral water at supper instead of plastic cups)
beautiful older building, gorgeous mango tree, nicely renovated, location minutes walk to colonial buildings, hearty breakfast, friendly staff did not charge me for half hour of internet Cat miawling day and night, tiny room, metal cheap dresser in bathroom, cheap regular curtains, no black out blinds, noisy air conditioning unit. Room needs to be updated, paint flaking off, vent with chipped paint, small safe not secured to wall/dresser, TV with only CNN in English, not satellite. Very tiny pool, looks a lot bigger in picture, same as rooms. Painting of Haitian leaders in dining room, all staff except one were Haitian, I speak French and Spanish fluently so this was not a problem. Restaurant was closed, due to maternity leave and this was not mentioned on website. I stayed here because it offered restaurant service. I had to leave and walk blocks for lunch and supper after undergoing surgery.
Good position in the "Ciudad Colonial" and good quality/price ratio.
Laid back approach but friendly service.
Some staff were awesome. Manager not so much. Internet connection was bad, and not always working. Jaucuzzi did not have hot water or much jet action.. Was surprised when told 26% would be added to reserved price.. Reread contract and finally found this charge in the smallest possible print.
The Antoinette room had an adjoining bathroom. The atmosphere is relaxed, pleasant, festive and conducive to my needs. The area is safe, 1600's, and you can walk all around the Zona Colonial as a museum. This is a good hotel to meet any and possibly all of my needs. The breakfasts were wonderful. There are a lot of sights all around this hotel and I traveled everywhere by foot, day and night amongst the pleasant people. The hotel has a great atmosphere that is safe and secure (with an in room safe); there is always someone ready to assist and keep an eye on the quadrangle of rooms in the pool area. There is a third floor with some seats, a jaccuzi that I noticed a couple of days into my stay. There is a cat for upstairs and one for the third floor that you might see. LuLu is a quiet friendly dog that relaxes out of the way and occasionally raises it's head when it is receptive for attention. Nice place and a fine choice to the best of my knowledge when compared to everything else around the area. Natural health food store, go left out of the hotel and take your first R for one block and you are there (meals, juices, nuts, snacks). Five days were fine. Great value for the money. Tom The online review stated you may be charged for a guest and the in hotel contract said that you will be charged for a guest; I did not bring any guests to the hotel ($20). (I always sign my name anonymous to these reviews as I am only given one other option that does not suit me.)
Read the reviews as they have been accurate for my decisions to book here. The staff will do whatever they can to make your stay work well. The small in room safe worked well. The room and bed were comfortable and the breakfast was great. You are surrounded by the 1600's architecture throughout the Zona Colonial. Festive, pleasant people and nice restaurants, bars and lots to see abound.
Staff was friendly and breakfast was good with fresh fruits every morning. We had to leave one day ealier and staff was very understanding about it. Good hotel. My room (close to the pool) had wooden stairs to the upper lever where the bed was, stairs very difficult to climb and even dangerous for a young couple, so I would not recommend it for children or older people.
Good breakfast, helpful staff, good location, nice atmosphere, special rooms (steep stairs in cheapest rooms).
Costumer friendly and warm homey environment pus good internet services no complaints
very romantic, small rooms ideal for couple/someone who is looking for some adventure. perfect location for visiting the old city slow internet, staff having some trouble with english, almost missed the airport run , kitchen was not working while being there
I am so happy to find a hotel of this caliber in Santo Domingo.....I will return again and again! The food, the service, the room, location for walking, everything was perfect. There is nothing to not like. Ok maybe a small desk in the room would be nice....but there is a business center.
Beautifullly decorated modern hotel! My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by this beautiful hotel in the colonial section of Santo Domingo. Staff was very attentive. No complaints here. Any problems I had were taken care of so quickly I don't even remember what they were.
The architecture and plant integration.
No complaints...everything is perfect.
The rastrillo architecture, excellent facilities and service, and outstanding Colonial Zone location. The breakfast buffet was expensive.
