SIXT - 2020 Discovery Sport
Fordeler: Vehicle was given to me cleaned and fully prepared for my trip. Had a nice panoramic sunroof and Navigation. One of the best vehicles I’ve driven very comfortable.
Ulemper: Security deposit was originally $500, but was dropped to $200. Not really a con because it is refundable, but was unexpected.
Fordeler: After paying - upfront - around $2,200 to rent a Range Rover, at the desk, after a VERY long flight and on Christmas Day, the agent asked for ANOTHER $2,500 deposit! So just shy of $5,000 to rent a car! For only 9 days! They say it was in the "fine print" that I would have to pay a $2,500 deposit when I arrived. FINE PRINT! AND, I took out the damage insurance so what was the $2,500 for? The agent could NOT explain to me what the deposit was for. THEN the agent AND a manager could NOT reach their own customer service department to change the rental to a Mercedes rate and a mere $500.00 deposit AFTER I already paid around $2,200 and would NOT refund me the difference and said at the end of the rental, I'll get a refund. I've rented from this place NUMEROUS times and they have NEVER asked me for such a high deposit and I have rented NUMEROUS high end cars from them. Who "hands over" almost $5,000 for a car rental??
Ulemper: See above! Put the deposits in BIG PRINT and be HONEST with your CUSTOMERS! Would kind of help, right?? And explain what such high deposits are for when the rates to rent the cars are already high!
Fordeler: Car was clean
Ulemper: I originally booked my reservation under my name and my father offered to pay for my car for a Christmas present. Our payment was processed . Later we noticed in the fine print that upon picking up our car , the credit card used (my dad’s) and ID have to match in order to get the car. I called sixt customer service to try to switch my credit card to mine and the operator said he cannot without having to pay a rebooking fee and pay the current rate OR pay for 3 days and rebook, either way paying $160 more than my original agreement. I asked the operator at Sixt “after taking my original payment with my dads credit card and the reservation under my name, could I have got the car. He said “no”. Then I asked, why did you take my payment then if there is no way to get the car. He ignored my question and kept repeating it was in the disclosure. Then I asked , do you think this is right? He said personally no, however that’s the policy. I was so unhappy with the customer service here. Then the day I got the car at LAX SIxt , the customer service rep said the sixt rep I talked to was wrong in telling me what he did and said it could have been resolved. However he didn’t correct it either. I hope someone from this company can call me to reconcile this horrible customer service . All I wanted to do was switch out my credit card. Instead I had to pay more for a service that I could have never used . Please call me to fix this at 929-281-5246 - Mike Torres
Fordeler: The staff member that helped us check out was great! She was super helpful.
Fordeler: Drop off was easy but pick-up was not.
Ulemper: The check-out person pressured us to buy liability insurance. According to California law (like other states) minimum liability coverage is required. If a renter were were from another country they would not have their own and the rental company wold be required to have this minimum insurance. What we were probably being sold was extra liability insurance. We were also pressured to upgrade when we wanted a small car. Our instantaneous rating was changed from the 3 we selected. Sixt did not acknowledge our Allianz policy and suggested we get their insurance as we would be directly charged. Hence i suggest that renters not get the Allianz insurance as it would be a big procedure to get reimbursed particularly where, as happened to us in the past, police are ot interested in accidents that do not involve injuries. Rental companies should also explain the basic operations which differ from model to model.
Fordeler: Newer car with great features.
Ulemper: Tried to scam us into getting a $60 toll pass and we went thru zero tolls. Car was not cleaned out
Ulemper: Everything with the company but we just didn’t like the car (a Mini Cooper). It was cramped, the radio and lights weren’t very user friendly, the seats wouldn’t adjust correctly, and didn’t have very good shocks so it was bumpy and just hard to sit in for our road trip. Other than that, everything was good.
Fordeler: Staff was not friendly. Car seemed to be in poor condition. The maintenance alert kept popping up in the middle of our trip. Overall it was a bad experience
Fordeler: Quick and easy check-in and check out
Ulemper: The car wasn’t super clean. I thought it could have been better.
Fordeler: Pickup was quick and easy
Ulemper: Our car smelled like smoke and no options were offered us except paying to upgrade
Fordeler: Staff was friendly and accommodating. We were very pleased with our car. The whole experience was perfect.
Ulemper: Nothing. We will rent through Kayak/ sixt again. This was my first experience with both.
Fordeler: No helpful
Ulemper: Could have been more helpful
