Good bed, on the firm side however. We had dinner in restaurant, which was good (I'm normally quite picky on having dinner in hotel restaurants, but this was one of the best experiences). We complained about safe in room not working (making a annoying sound every ten seconds and also unable to lock it). I would expect a four star hotel to offer us to change room, instead they sent the maintenance guy - but he was unable to fix it (although they claimed he did). I managed to remove the annoying sound myself, however they safe was unusable.
1. WIFI does NOT work. Missed deadlines! I was unable to do work because of wifi not working, missed important deadlines! 2. Every door slams so loud that sounds like bomb. 3. Smells cheap and kinda nasty. 4. Receptionists are incompetent and showed attitude instead of trying to resolve the problems related o WIFI. 5. The day I was leaving they proposed to change room. I thought it was clear expression of mocking and making fun of a customer. 5. In room 506, there is a light on the building outside near the window, which so strong that at night seems like you are the beach in front of the sun and the curtains do not help. I am not a light sleeper and I fall asleep easily, during this 4 day stay I could not sleep because of that and extremely loud door slamming. Overall experience was horrible. I flew across the globe from Los Angeles for work and due to mainly almost not working WIFI my trip was next to nothing. I feel I was robbed. This hotel does not deserve to be 4 star one.
The overall atmosphere was very welcoming and relaxing
Right on sea front very near old part of Santander easy to walk everywhere Air conditioning in room wasn't working which staff knew about but we were given another room with a sea view.
Fantastic location overlooking the marina and walking distance to restaurants, bars and shops. We had booked 3 rooms and all of them overlooked the water. On arrival we sat outside and ordered a bottle of Rioja and paid the average rate, We expected to be charged more for a 4 star hotel with such a lovely view. Wished we could have stayed longer. We will be back.
Ideal location with great view over Marina, staff very friendly.
Great position in the city and close to everything bars restaurant and a short walk to the beach It was a bit expensive for what you got
The location of the Puertochico was excellent, lovely views over the bay and very close to the old City and restaurants etc. Very clean and efficient with very good Continental breakfast.
Excellent service and good location
Friendly, obliging staff. Spoke good English. Good location as in the middle between the shopping/commercial area one way and in the other, the beaches. Also well served by public transport - bus stops right outside hotel. Had nice room on top floor - room 901. Has balcony and nice views. Lovely, good size bathroom. Room a little small, beds a little bit too hard. Also room a bit cold.
Ideal position for those who want more freedom than a hotel brings. Comfortable and friendly staff, Bus stop outside and supermarkets within 100 yards. Wonderful beach even closer!
The helpful personnel. They went out of their way to make us welcome and overcome our language difficulties and provided extra service with a smile. Everything was fine
Loved the decor of the apartment and the location. Would like to have main condiments such as milk, tea, sugar etc. And also better range of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. These are only tiny concerns.
they were big for a family of 4 no english channels on tv
great facilities and friendly staff Nothing all good
the location was good, close to the beach the apartment was dark and dingy and smelt of damp and stale cigarette smoke
very spacious rooms, very central & near the beach
Pleasantly decorated, spacious, well equipped, close to beach, buses, restaurants, supermarket, park, festival centre. Lack of computer for guest use despite having wifi. We had to find an internet cafe.
excellent location opposite the beach and near the football stadium.staff very friendly and helpful. apartment was small
Only stayed onwe night very good fo ferry vvv
The hotel was opposite the Brittany ferry terminal
It was very convenient- I was waiting to meet with my husband who was travelling by Ferry. The room had a great view and was very large and comfortable. The eveing meal was excellent value. I do not really enjoy eating alone but the staff made me feel very comfortable The pillows on the bed! Re 2nd question below: I did not read any of the reviews so cannot comment
Location and value for money
it was right in the city centre 2mins from all the shops would stay at this hotel again. fantastic hotel and location
It was very relaxing the rain and wind
close to shops and port
layout and furnishings of room
Close to the bay and shopping. No
Location and that there is a cafe adjoining. But the Staff dont speak english. The restaurant only displays a spanish menu. The prices are very good if you understand the language. Also the trip from the airport cost 15 euros not as stated. Moor english tv channels. Only had Sky news
Excellent value for money. Very modern and clean. Nice to have some sky channels in English. Our room did not have much natural light, but artificial lighting was adequate.
the location my only comment is there is no car parking.
Nice Hotel Big rooms
central location No view from window. Noisy coach parties awake all night
The staff were fantastic, our motorcyle broke down and the family that owned the hotel spoke english and really put themselves out to liase with the local bmw dealership and fed us back information. They went above the call of duty, parking at the rear of the hotel was fine, no issues, supermarket, petrol station, bar/cafe/restaurant all next to the hotel, the room was very nice, far better than the price would suggest. I would stay there again and use it for a base, bus into Santander just over a euro and 11 euros in a taxi back, no problems, highly recommend.
very smart bed was too big, we prefer smaller!
Good price for its quality; comfortable and big room; quiet zone without any disturbing noises the location is a bit hard to find by GPS. We went to a villiage nearby and took a detour in the end. not well indicated for its location.
Staff were friendly even though there was a language barrier
good reception, very pleasant room, large car park next to hotel, a family run hotel , owner`s wife spoke good english and assisted with directions as a non smoker the room had ash trays in it .
convenient location for a visit to the Picos and the Santander Ferry port
I thought the room where large and clean and the staff friendly cafe on site also good. bonus was free parking My stay was good but it is a little difficult to find
Only stayed one night, but no tea/coffee facilities in room. Only Spanish spoken.
Cleanliness Location. It would have been nice to have a small choice of alternative eating establisments in the area.
Lovely room with balcony (424) very pieceful had a wonderful weekend. Great Chinese down the road 1st right after roundabout (Not the Oriental that's crap) Expensive for food and especially fresh orange juice (£3+ a small glass). After all they grow like weeds in southern Spain!!!
A comfortable and well appointed hotel. Close to the ferry port. The staff were very friendly and helpful. No obvious deficiencies
We stayed 3 nights here and found it to be a superb hotel well situated . right on a beautiful beach. Modern rooms which were very comfortable and clean. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast, everything you could wish for. Restaurant facilities were good and value for money. An ideal base to see the area. Would stay here again and would thoroughly recommend it.
The decor, bar and restaurant service and the general quality of the experience. There was nothing that I didn't like.
The cleanliness of the room and the view - also the buffet breakfast
Warm and comfortable and with variety of eating options. Well placed for Santander and ferry terminal On leaving garage at top of slope my car exhaust hit the ground, so a problem with car which are low o to the ground
great location and good price, nice bar (didn't try the restaurant but looked good)
Having read all published comments about this hotel I can only wholeheartedly agree - excellent choice - all rooms had a seaview!
Convenience Poor breakfast
easy to find great and helpful staff lovely snacks and polite waiters no english tv stations and curtains didnt pull across no coffee making facillities in room
It was very helpful that the receptionists spoke good, fluent English. There was a nice view over the city. The car park entrance and the gravel part are quite dangerous for a motorcycle to enter and reach the tarmaced area. Any loose surface makes a motorcycle unstable.
Size of the room quite generous as is the bathroom. The distance stated on the website from hotel to city centre was misleading. The hotel is right on the outskirts on the edge of an industrial estate. There was nothing nearby not even a bar or a restaurant.
Hotel clean and tidy, Comfortable rooms, Spa very good Would have preferred a double bed rather than 2 twins pushed together. No restaurant in hotel or nearby, meant we had to drive into Santander. Not all the spa facilities were working correctly (curtain shower and scottish showers).
friendly helpful staff nice quiet area just a bit hard to find badly signed
we enjoyed the tranquillity of the place
There was a kitchen which could have been useful. The hotel is very close to the ferryport and it has an interesting view over the city. The room smelt a bit musty. I was rather disappointed with this hotel and I don't quite know why. I booked it quickly to facilitate our journey to GB from Santander and it was very close, but there was no air conditioning and it was a bit noisy. Also there was no evening restaurant-we were referred to a supermarket. I was also concerned about the lighting of the stairs. Several of the staircases were dark and as usual I wondered how easily you could get out in an emergency.
Very friendly staff - clean rooms. Rooms were quite noisy (between rooms) also Hotel is difficult to find.
Proximity to airport - less than 15 minutes in a taxi (cost less than 15 eur for two passengers and four bags). Extremely difficult to find as it was very poorly signposted. I hadn't printed out the directions from the website as I presumed that my sat nav (GPS) would bring me successfully to it (as it had it did to the 7 other hotels that I stayed in during my 2 wk stay in Spain). Due to the obscure location of the hotel, the sat nav did not bring me there & I spent an hour driving around trying to find it even though I had only been minutes drive from it originally. I had to call the hotel twice to get directions. There was no air-conditioning in the room so too hot at end of Aug & got bitten by mosquitos as left the window open to let in air during night. This hotel is actually just outside the city boundary & steps down to hotel are poorly lit
Friendly reception staff. Proximity to Santander - though directions on the website were misleading as access is much easier from the Santander city side. Only a few minutes' drive into the city centre. Parking available (often a problem with cheaper Santander hotels!) Excellent bathroom (very clean; good fittings; bath/shower and shower). We used this as a night halt before taking the ferry - useful because of its location outside the busy city centre. View - towards airport and mountains. Carpet in the room was not very clean.Spa pool tiny - the website photo could mislead slightly. No air-conditioning. Bar/cafeteria seemed little-used so not very welcoming.
location, staff spotless
Large room, good bed, close to the beach. Poor breakfast.
Very good location and a very nice breakfast. The room was old and musty and the air conditioning made a rumble all night long. The front desk staff was dismissive and not very helpful.
The provision of secure car parking but the charge was rather high. I would expect a 4 star hotel to provide a full room service 24/7 when your dinner service is too late for many people.
The hotel was excellent value for money, and provided an ideal base for both a beach and city break in Santender. Noisy bedroom doors.
Very good location, nice room (big bathroom and comfortable beds), not too expensive for a 4 stars hotel
The staff were first rate
Enjoyable stay for 3 nights in a junior suite. Slightly dated room but very well maintained, espresso machine a real delight. Maid service was excellent. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful (thanks, Mar and Angela). Air conditioning quiet and efficient. Overall a 9+ in my book. Ate at the restaurant twice, food was good and the portion was generous. Having the TV on spoiled the otherwise pleasant atmosphere.
It was OK, not much beyond that. Location was not very good, a bit far from the city center, however there was a bus near by. The room design and comfort was a bit dissapointing.
Easy booking in process, friendly staff, good food, clean and spacious room. Cannot say anything negative about the hotel.
pleasent view and well apointed rooms
Intimacy of atmosphere and staff, quiet and pleasant grounds, charm and character of building.
Hotel is in a lovely setting with beautiful gardens and a niice relaxed atmosphere. breakfast was simple but good. staff helpful and friendly. rooms are big and building has real character. Bit difficult to find, even with sat nav, as it's so different to everything else on the steet. bit of a hill on walk back from old town to hotel, but good way to burn off tapas!
really hot water and a good size bath puddles on the approach to the door
It has parking that is not trivial in the city, but still walking distance from the center. The breakfast is satisfying, the staff is helpful. Please start dinner earlier!
It was convenient to access from incoming roads and for onward passage to the ferry terminal. Reception facilities were minimal and staff were unable to provide information about hotel and local facilities (Spanish speaking only)
very nice room
We liked the hotel because it was small and intimate. The parking facilities made a big difference as other hotels in the city had no on-site free parking. This had been a major consideration when booking the hotel.Time spent walking round Santander proved this to have been a wise consideration. The room was basically furnished but clean and comfortable. We were also pleasantly surprised at the breakfast facility and the extended hours during which breakfast was served. This made it possible to start the day in a leisurely way. We, and several other guests were staying at the hotel prior to cathcing a return ferry to England on the following day. It appears that this hotel is used quite regularly for this purpose. There were three factors which we found of concern. Firstly there were very few staff in attendance and those who were there spoke no language, or understood any other language other than Spanish which made communication extremely difficult. Secondly, there were no dining facilities and the hotel is situated quite some distance from the restaurant quarter in the city. Thirdly the map supplied with the booking is not adequate enough to be able to properly find the hotel. It took us nearly an hour of driving around the area to discover its location.
Being a school for catering / hotel personel the reception area and entrance to the dining area were, at times rather daunting with lots of students standing around. It was just confusing for new arrivals.
Very comfortable, lovely balcony on our room with views of Picos de Europa. The location not is a bit far from the centre of town, and the surrounding area is not very attractive.
old house with plenty of character, yet the room was well maintained and very comfortable It needed tea/coffee making in the room
Good facilities and helpful staff. Lacking in atmosphere.
friendly reception - position of hotel
Location for beaches. Breakfast served in dull basement area. Not all waiting staff were helpful like reception staff. Would not class this as a 4 star hotel.
The location The noise of the next door bathroom woke me up at 8 am The pictures of the rooms on the official website are not relate in some cases (like mine) with the real rooms. Really careful with this.
Closeness to the beaches and parks Tea and coffee making facilities in each room would be a good idea, and information about local restaurants, swimming pools etc, useful.
Location, being close to ferry port at Santander for onward trip to Portsmouth. Views from hotel/room & proximity to town centre & located in an upmarket area. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. However, we have found this seems to be standard practice in most of the Spanish hotels we have stayed in, why? Also car parking charge excessive, but underground garage is secure albeit when we stayed appeared hardly used.
Helpfulstaff excellent dinner Breakfast appeared not to be staff available to cope with the demand
Nice, modern hotel. A little over-priced
The room was excellent with a nice view of the sea.
Large comfy rooms with excellent staff bathrooms could do with a little update
Me and my girlfriend stayed in El Jardin Secreto two weeks ago and we loved it. Very nicely decorated, good size double room, clean and bright. Toilet, and shower in the room, super clean with all new amenities. The hotel has only a few rooms which made it very cosy and relaxing as opposite to a big hotel. Finally, the owners, Eneida and her brother were friendly, very welcoming, and always ready to help, i.e. they were great at giving us tips about local restaurants and bars in Santander. Not really negative points but things worth mentioning. Notice that the complete address is 37 Cardenal Cisneros, 39007 Santander. The street number is missing in Booking.com and being quite a new hotel our taxi driver got lost. Also, being used to English style breakfasts in other B&B's I found theirs a bit basic, only tea/coffee and buns. This is clearly mentioned on the description so no surprises there.
The price was great value for the lovely decorated room and hotel. Location not bad either. Nice and quiet too. Nothing comes to mind.
Good location and I loved my room. It was immaculate, beautiful, quiet and comfortable. It was a big step up from other places I'd stayed for the same price.
Perfect rooms and faclities It is invisible hotel :) Please be precise with adress
Confort, cleanliness, discretion, welcome, price. nothing
you get in and go wal so new and got a reel new spanisn feel we had a room at the back and not asound from anything plus we looked out at our own spanish garden thanyou all to the workers that made it wonderful. yours gordon and lesley. its a must that you give a number to the road address is 37
