I absolutely LOVED the staff! They were welcoming and genuinely nice! Also the pillows were the most comfortable pillows I've ever encountered at a hotel. Hard to get parking in the mornings on the weekend because of the pancake house near by. It wasn't too bad but it made it unpleasant when we had to run back to our hotel to get something we forgot and we couldn't find parking.
It was great the rooms are very nice and cozy
Location Everything except staff and location room smelled so bad i didn't feel clean I didn't want to leave anything on the floor and we went to the nearest Wal-Mart to buy things to make the room smell better at least and bought pillow covers if we would have been able to our money I would have taken it back and ran.
There are all the things that you expect from a hotel like this, but also the things that you don't like and can expect from a place like this. The surrounding area, the people at the front, although they did fix my issue after waiting for a long time. The parking is limited but not a deal breaker.
Nice room... pretty clean. I've stayed in best westerns before. I think this was the nicest so far. Our room key didn't work first go, but it was resolved quick.
Clean room staff was great
Value for the dollar was good on short mitive
Customer service rep Hector did EVERYTHING to make up for all of Cheryl's lack of helpfulness. Customer service rep Cheryl lacks ALL the qualities needed to be in the position she is in.
Location Cleanliness of room. Dirty towels were hung up.
Clean rooms and over all loved our stay Upon check in both of the ladies were helping a group and didn't acknowledge us Or other customers till I spoke up
Hearty and plentiful breakfast, nicely equipped and tastefully decorated rooms, comfortable beds and pillows, quiet noise levels, very attentive and friendly staff (our housekeeper Carmen on the 4th floor provided the best service. She always gave me more than what I asked for. Made my family very comfortable) Elevators and hallways were very warm, humid, and uncomfortable; It was a huge hassle to get in and out of the hotel just to get to my car because there was really only one elevator area. Would be nice if one could use the stairs to access their floors as well as another option. I don't mind the extra exercise. Could not use my key card to enter through the alternative West side entrance after 10 PM. I was in room 409 so it would've been shorter for me to just go up the stairs or enter from that other entrance as my vehicle was always parked more toward the West side.
Clean interior rooms, friendly helpful staff, decent location (about 20 min.) to Balboa Park, Sea World, and other attractions. Ample parking, even on a holiday, and a well lit parking lot. Mini fridge was not working properly, but they did promptly exchange for a working unit. When using the business center to print, the paper jammed in the printer and then the ink was dried up, they did fix it was it was a time consuming hassle.

Nothing Worse customer servise, toilet didn't work, had to fix it my self
Fantastic staff! I've never been treated so well by hotel staff. Plus the hotel is so close to the trolley
The Front desk Mangager. Hmmm...Lobby was a bit small.
The room was larger and nicer than described. No.
The staff was amazing...very helpful and kind. The a/c in the room was the up to par.

The staff was wonderful! the other female manager were very helpful and welcoming. Room was very clean, beds have both soft and firm pillow which makes getting comfy much easier!
Close to Sea World and cleanliness.
Met or exceeded all expectations. None.

Loved the no. of channels they had on cable. And the motel location was great, right next to a MacDonald's so we could easily forgo the undesired complimentary breakfast, & across was a 24-hr Denny's for a quick fix of late dinner. 5mins drive to the outlets. It seriously was a very basic accommodation for a short weekend getaway. U may find some parts of the room, esp. the bathroom, which makes one slightly uncomfortable at 1st sight, but looking past that, if u'r seriously just looking for a place to lay ur heads for the nite, it is still acceptable.
The location was ok. There was no closet to hang cloths. There was no in room coffee. The air conditioner did not cool. The place was put together like an after thought.
Not to much The tv did not work right. The screen was completely green they said that the cable company has a technician coming to fix them soon. The morning breakfast had very very little verities (oatmeal only). Not worth the price more like a motel 6
The staff member when we checked out took us to the trolley station in his truck. As we had lots of bags this was appreciated. The description of the hotel listed cots and cribs as avaialble. When we arrived there were no cots or cribs in the hotel, and they were removed years before. I was extremly angry, and they offered me a fold out sofa bed, which was the only option. The hotel is shabby and in need of a renovation.
Leaving Staying! Had already committed for three nights unfortunately because I had bought through third party online. We wanted to cancel before the first night.
How friendly everyone was The carpet in my room felt gross. I couldn't walk barefoot
It was close to the freeway. I called the front desk and told them that the iron in my room was not working well and if I could have another one. He said yes he would send me one. I left the room and saw the maid on the way out and even mentioned that I was expecting another iron. I never received another iron and it was very frustrating. Also, the furniture in my room was old and broken and needs to be replaced.
The location wasn't too far from everything and the room was clean Extremely loud people next to us and the Internet never worked. If you get the Internet, pay for it inside the office and not online. That way if it doesn't work they can refund it for you
It was fair price and big room, ideally for a stay for a night or two. The hostel was close to a road and a bit noisy.
Clean and people there very friendly!
The place is clean, quiet, comfortable! No microwave
Price was right. Free coffee. No frills.
Nothing much Nothing much
Very peaceful and quite. Pool Needs microwave in the rooms & better tv programing
It was a clean comfortable roomand I would stay there again Everything was perfect there so I liked everything
I liked the location of the hotel since it was near to a trolley station and the bus station. The hotel staff were professional. I did not like breakfast options in the hotel. Continental breakfast should not be limited to "Muffins only".
Price Dirty, and stained carpet.
The price was excellent and the room was very accommodating. However, I booked 2 weeks in advance and the price would have been a lot higher if I booked later. I now search for Good Nite Inn's when I travel to other locations for business. I booked on line. Prior to traveling, I called Good Nite Inn to confirm my reservation. They said there was no reservation under my name. I called Booking.com and they said they faxed and also emailed my reservation. Then I was placed on hold while the booking.com representative called the Inn. After booking.com's call, Good Nite Inn said they found my reservation number.
In compare to money that I paid it was good totally. Just 2/7 nights cleaner forgot to bring us soaps and shampoos!
We stayed here on our honeymoon the place was great room was small but loved the place would love to stay here again Size of the room it was small but for just the 2 of us it was perfect size close to a lot via i-5
Staff was the most kind and helpful and the facility was great and clean.
We always enjoy are stay. Accommodation's are always available. And the rooms are very clean. Plus, we are close to beaches, malls and resturants. The rooms were a bit small.
The hotel actually looks amazing. The room is a little small.
The room was very nicely updated. There's an iPod dock and cable TV. An armor has plenty of space for a suitcase, clothes, and features a full length mirror. The bed was comfortable and I absolutely loved the shower. Their breakfast is great too and is featured until 11am - a huge plus to those that sleep in. Nothing really
The hotel was a fifteen minute drive from Gaslamp which was where we spent New Years Eve. It was a cute little hotel that you'll see the minute you turn from the freeway. It's hard to miss the bright red accent on its exterior. They do have a "private" parking "structure." I have quotation marks because the spots in the structure are really small. The good thing is you need a key card to access the parking area. The lobby is small but cozy. The front desk staff was great both on the night we checked in and the day after. We were offered champagne and water during check in - probably cause it was New Years. The room itself was clean and the beds were comfortable. The flooring was carpet which was a first for me. The bathroom space were well utilized i.e. it was small but you weren't bumping into anything. Maybe I didn't look hard enough but there wasn't a fridge of any sort which took away the possibility of bringing take out back to the room with us. The sink was a tad shallow.
I wouldn't be able to say anything negative about this hotel , I re-read the review and was reconsidering my stay but it was a last minute choice so went with the flow , upon arrival it was a little weird , checked in with Jonathan that was very welcoming ,staff rated they were very polite and very helpful , room wise it was perfect for the night , clean , has all the basic things you need , and it suits well for the the pricing . I would coming back to this hotel when I visit San Diego !!!!
Modern interior, very clean. We enjoy the comfort and convenience of the Hotel. Wish they offord a two suite room.
the room was perfectly clean, 5 pillows, we loved it, the bed was great, we slept all night, so comfortable, thank you and we will use again when we come back for another visit was wonderful
This hotel is the most expensive during my stay in the US. 3.....4 stars hotel in Vegas are less expensive, also compare to Travelodge in Anaheim, Riviera in Vegas.
the housekeeping staff very sweet it has ants. they just wanted to move us after we were told other rooms have them also
The breakfast is terrible.
The price Ants in the room, sheets not changed...the indentation of previous guest still imprinted on sheet and bedding. ONE ONLY electrical outlet. TV, Cable and Fridge all plugged into one outlet
Very quiet environment and the people at the desk were very friendly. Little mold on the wall in a shower and the curtains.
Very good value for money. Vagabond inn is the quintessence of a motel. Just 10 miles far from SanDiego downtown. There are a lot of restaurant chains in the nearby blocks. The room is spacious, confortable. Cannot ask anything more from a motel. Poor breakfast - only juice and coffee at the lobby.
The location was perfect for the nature of our trip. Extremely friendly staff, very clean rooms and very quiet. Especially liked the situation of the buildings around a green area and not facing street. A simple but very adequate motel.
the breakfast is at the reception without any table, chair,etc...and only they had coffee
Had a bed The room was hot and no AC where the bed was, the room was not Travel lodge but Howard Johnson (Kayak must have booked under travellodge but the room was sent to Howard Johnson), the place charged me for the room as well so I will have to make sure the room was not double charged. Not much was good about this transaction.
Refrigerator and microwave. Plenty of room if you are with family. No TV in bedroom, inside is very white! A little paint would be comforting. Not so great neighborhood with scetchy neighbors. Lady at front was talking on phone with family/ friend when I was checking out. Not very freindly!!
CAble TV did not work. Very fuzzy. Switched rooms. AC was poor in second room and there were no towels. We called to haves some brought to us and we're told that all of their towels were in the laundry. We still had the room key to the first room so we walked down and grabbed the towels in the first room and let a staff member know that we no longer needed towels. 45 min later came a very loud banging on our door from another stFf member with some towels. I guess they thought we were in a large mansion and not in a tiny room because they rapped so hard we thought they were gonna break the door down. Overall not very happy with the level of this hotels efforts.
The price seemed right for a 1 bedroom suite with a kitchen. One side of the hotels rooms have been renovated & updated. However some room are still very dated and you don't know what your getting until you arrive. I had stayed before with no issues. However on this occasion I was extremely offended by the staff and their policies. A family friend lived nearby so I invited her to drop by before going out for dinner. As I escorted her & her friend to my room the front desk attendant started screaming "No guests! No guests!" And continued to tell them they must leave. She then called our room & told us if they didn't leave now we would be asked to leave as well. This was at 4pm. Apparently in the fine print of the check in paperwork I had agreed to the no guest policy. I was completely embarrassed and humiliated and feel the situation could have been addressed in a much more professional and reasonable manner. I later asked if my friend could come up if I added her to the room. I was told you are only allowed the number of occupants you supply at check in. No alterations regardless of the room size. The breakfast was minimal and the cereal offered was generic disguised as name brand. There is a tacky sign on the pool reading something to the effect of "if you have diarrhea or have had diarrhea in the last 14 days you are not allowed in the pool." I will never return to this hotel again.
i liked that everything was clean and the people where friendly. If you asked them for something they would do it. Honestly the location didnt make me feel 100% safe and the free breakfast was kinda lame.
Nothing Dirty, lights in bathroom had electrical problems, water got extremely hot in shower. Even turned on cold. Horrible location, bed was uneven (we rolled to the middle) couch was dirty. It was stained black in spots (so dirty, it looked black) 3 lights did not work.. 1 in bedroom, 2 in sitting area. Checked all my baggage for bugs before we legt I felt that dirty
We were close enough to beaches, which was the whole point of the trip. The staff were awful. My girlfriend and I wanted to take her daughter and 2 younger siblings (ages 6 through14) to the beach for the first time so, upon booking this hotel, we made sure to input two adults and three children. We booked a queen room with a pull-out bed in the living room so everyone had somewhere to sleep. On the first night, I called the office and asked for more towels (we'd been provided with only two large towels, one smaller towell, and a couple washcloths). The lady in the front office abruptly said she'd check and hung up on me. I heard nothing more that night. I then went to the front office the next day and requested more towels again. The same woman advised house cleaning would bring more. On my way back to the hotel, a woman from the cleaning staff who either spoke very little English or was simply as rude as the first woman asked if I needed more towels. I said yes and she gestured to our room. I led her to the room and she collected the old towels we'd used and exchanged them for new towels, not providing more than we'd received in the first place, all the while sort of sizing up the room. I asked her for more and she said we'd have to ask the front office. I explained I already asked them twice and they were to have brought extra towels, not just replace the ones we had. She then apparently walked to the office to essentially 'tell on us' for having three children in the room, because soon after the original lady from the front desk called our room stating we couldn't have children in the room and we only booked two adults. She proceeded to threaten either kicking us out or charging us more for having lied about the booking when we hadn't lied at all. She checked her systems and decided it was an internal error, not our own, but we were left worried and concerned about our belongings every time we left the hotel. An issue of towels may seem trivial but these people were incredibly rude to us for our entire stay. They turned a relaxing weekend into a weekend of arguing, not having enough towels to dry everyone off, being threatened, and being worried each time we left the hotel that we'd come back evicted or with stuff missing. Probably the worst hotel stay I have ever experienced.
Very nice, worth every penny and super peaceful.
I stayed here with one of my friends. I liked the 2 private room set up. Almost like 2 hotel rooms in 1. TVs in both rooms. Nice and clean. No complaints.....
Rooms where we'll kept and very modern , staff was friendly
THE ROOMS WERE REALLY NICE
Had to switch rooms 3x because they were infested with cockroaches. It was disgusting!!! Luckily the third room didn't have the roach problem but I had to be in the smoking section area. Would never stay in that hotel again.
Nithing Tge services
It was a nice big, clean room.
Overaĺl fine The wifi was not good very bad signal
As always, your rooms are comfortable. The staff was professional and with utmost courtesy For some reason, too many people were walking back and forth yelling and talking loud as they past our room. perhaps the rooms nee d more sound proofing, or that day, there were some loud people with no respect for others, that were visiting.
The lady at the front desk was very helpful on giving me my money back! The room had flies all over the wall, i called the front desk to have it clean and no one came!!
Bad location. Young kids partying until 5 in the morning. Called the front desk and security 5 separate times and nothing happened. You can hear everything your neighbors are doing and overall just a sketchy place.
It was convienently located near I-5 At 11pm it took me 40 mins to check into my room and they required ID's of everyone that was staying in the room, which I have never been asked for or heard of.
We liked very much... the owners are extremely kind and very nice... the room was very clean and breakfast was very good.
Service and engagement of the owner to make the stay enjoyable
This is certainly an excellent place. Price/location ratios are super. Breakfast and cleanliness are also very goog. Very well located and owners were helpfull.
A lovely restored building! Very well kept and run by a wonderful family. We really felt cared for. They have a delicious breakfast that you eat in a gorgeous, quiet courtyard filled with flowers. We would recommend to anyone and stay again for sure.
Nice and comfy rooms, friendly staff and best breakfast from our entire trip :)
I would stay here again and recommend it to others. Loved just about everything about this boutique hotel. Staff was kind and courteous. Bed was comfortable. Bedding was clean. Carpet was clean - always nice when you walk barefoot. Nice shower (no tub.) Bathroom was clean except for dusty window sill. Breakfast was tasty - hard-boiled and cooked eggs, bacon and sausage, variety of fresh, bagels, muffins, assorted spreads, cereal, hot and cold beverages. Wonderful outdoor patio to enjoy breakfast on. First floor rooms look out onto parking lot or patio. It's not that I didn't like these but that they weren't available on site: no pool, fitness center, laundry. On the other hand, fitness center and laundry were within walking distance. Only two outlets in the room. Keep in mind this is an older building. The next round of updates should include a lamp or two with outlets and TV mount on the wall for the TV rather than current set up in a piece of furniture where doors cannot fully open due to placement.
The hotel staff is amazing!
We thought that the rooms were beautifully designed and the beds extremely comfortable. The couple in charge were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent! The only thing I would say is that this was the most expensive hotel on our trip (we stayed in 5 others this trip) which is why a longer stay was not possible which is a shame!
It's a family-owned business (mostly operated by the husband and wife)and the owners have an outstanding customer relations attitude. They sincerely care that you are enjoying yourself and are truly interested in how you are enjoying your stay in San Diego. It was an unexpected bonus that 7/11 is across the street, Dominos Pizza a block away (try the $5 El Primero B&B special), and that it is located within a 10-15 min drive of downtown San Diego. No complaints!
This was my 1st experience at a Bed and Breakfast. It was very comfortable, cozy and safe. The Breakfast was outstanding. The Owners go beyond making your stay comfortable. They treat you like family. Would recommend to everyone.
Price was good and got rest I needed
The place is dirty, has cigarettes burns everywhere. No phone book in room, no clock!?!?! And they charge a quarter for ice!
It is an ok hotel for the price. Better to stay in than in Los Angeles, where the prices can be very high. It is just a regular motel type place - do not expect too much.
Nothing. It is just too expensive for the unconfortable beds and dirt room/bathroom. It is not worth it at all.
The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel location was close to the coast.
Not much gust that it was in a good pleace Cheap old wi-Fi didn't work most of the times we have to pay for ice from the ice machine they said that we get free complementary breakfast I say not (just coffee and some cookies that you can get from the $0.99 store
old style furniture with new tv with plenty of channels
Cheapest deal I could find. Old motel, ants in the room, bathroom didn't flush well, room smelled like Clorox, shady people and staff, they hand a security walking around, and cops regularly patrolled the area.
Nothing. The rooms smell horribly and are outdated. The beds are uncomfortable. The location is kind of scary. The guest are rude and made lewd remarks that made us glad we had pepper spray.
Bed Roaches, broken air conditioner, tv was the old analog, bad customer service when the roach issue was addressed, no liners in the trash bins, the worse hotel we have ever stayed in ever
Relatively cheap. Easy access to freeways. No free wifi. No "Do Not Disturb" sign. No phone in room so you can't even call down to tell them to leave you alone. You have to go to the front desk each day and ask them to stay out of your room. Not great part of town - there's literally a sign on the building detailing "No drugs, no drug dealers, no prostitution, no weapons..." Yep, I've found that signage often stops these kinds of behaviors. No plug ins by bed. Cigarette burns on furniture. I could go on but I think you get the idea.
The staff was wonderful! We booked our trip through Kayak.com; however, the front desk showed no reservation for us. Kayak had not sent them our information! He was very helpful and went above and beyond to fix the issue. We finally got our room and went on to enjoy our weekend! Great value!
The staff were friendly. The A.C wasnt working well
Cleanliness, price and staff friendliness. People yelling at night, small parking lot.
very good service... the matress was a bit hard, but no big deal.
It's close to everything in San Diego The People in the hotel druggies , allot of noise i am a Female i would not recommend staying here alone . Be carefull of your surroundings.
Maid service No microwave
This wasn't a bad place. The managers and staff were nice. They remodeled a lot of things. The room did need new carpet. It had a nice bathroom, bed, and flat screen TV. I didn't like the hangout atmosphere. People were hanging outside of their rooms non-stop talking loudly with each other. They seemed to never leave the motel. Why? Made me suspicious.
Excellent location All charges are extra Parking extra Water extra in room
Loved the comfort of the hotel and the location Nothing
Location and views Paying $35 a day to parking
Location is great. The view from our room was beautiful. Comfy and clean room. Too expensive. $35-$50 for parking. 18% gratuity upcharge for everything along with all their fees. No fridge in room. Ac didn't work well.
Location Given room with bad view. When others were available with good view.
Price point and location We got a handicap room and I'm a Hilton member. No love there and it was my anniversary no love there!
Great location, rooms are spacious, lobby and building are beautiful. 5 minute walk from Gaslamp, 5 minute drive from Seaport Village and close to everything else. Staff was very friendly and accomodating.
Great location. And close to restaurants
The hotel was nice Hotel was expensive
Clean Horrible View
The hotel was in a great location, near the Gaslamp quarter, friendly staff, and could sit outside and have a great view of the water. When we checked in we were asked if we wanted to upgrade to a bay view for $20. However, when we checked out we were actually charged $30/night for a total of $60 (so $40 more than we were expecting). The view wasn't that great, but wasn't terrible. It was almost a $600 stay (with the upgrade) and it may seem silly, but we were on a super strict budget so $40 more actually was a challenge for us. Also, the room only went down to 65 degrees and our room was quite warm so that did make sleeping a challenge. Overall, a pretty decent experience but disappointed that the hotel itself overcharged.
Nice rooms great view family friendly. Busy area though with petco and the convention center next door. They changed the price from what I booked online. And added $100.00 more. Then you have to spend a half hour proving the price through emails. Frustrating. Beware and look over your receipt when you check out.
It was a wonderful expeeience from the moment we walk in to the time we left. It's a beautiful hotel with a wonderful staff. The Spa Suite was a little plain in appearance for a luxury hotel but the therapist was excellent.
The room was great and service was excellent. Very noisy on the 4th floor exterior room all night long on a weekend.. I requested a room with a view and got a view of the rundown buildingf to peo next to us and listene.
Cool vibe. Great room and decor. Easy check in.
The hotel is a historic landmark located near the Gaslamp district in downtown San Diego. The location is great for shopping, site seeing, and night life. The staff of the hotel was superb! A fantastic back drop for a romantic getaway.
The rooms were big and the decor was very nice. The staff were great and the location was perfect for visiting San Diego. The charge for parking is too high. We parked on nearby streets for a tenth of the cost.
We always enjoy staying at the US Grant. The staff is friendly the restaurant and bar are wonderful the location is perfect. The rooms are nice the beds are comfortable. The pillows and I would ask not to stay facing fourth Street again.
Great bed Could hear doors closing and thin walla
The staff was friendly and courteous. The entire stay was pleasant and we were well taken care of as guests.
Location Beds were terrible and room was small
Elegant and plush surroundings, very comfortable bed, room was lovely with great amenities even though I had a single room. Great power breakfast meal!
