Great position, friendly staff and clean

Too difficult to find a sunbed with shade. Many at the front have no parasols because of wind. It is ridiculous that all sunbeds are claimed with towels early in the morning by guests and then often they are only used for a couple of hours a day. It says that towels will be removed if not used but this doesn' t happen.

The size of the room came as a pleasant surprise, actually, there are two rooms - a bedroom and a sitting room with sliding doors in between, each with a TV set. Lovely view from the balcony, good choice of TV programmes, a comfortable bed, a very efficient front desk - definitely a good value for money. A courtesy bus to Funchal is also very handy. Many places to eat out and to buy food very close to the hotel (there is a good supermarket right in the same building).

The quality of cleaning could be better. Unfortunately, the only "beach" close to the hotel is a small concrete platform with a very uncomfortable access to the ocean and with no facilties whatsoever. Those who see no point in going to the seaside and swimming in a chlorinated pool should think twice before choosing this hotel.

The room was very clean and spacious. Excellent breakfast.

The beach is far from the hotel.

Brilliant hotel, highly recommended. We were upgraded to a junior suite.

Only less positive comment is that you need to pay extra for the steam room and sauna, which doesn't seem quite fair for a 4 star.

The cleanliness and comfort together with the choice of pools and space and gardens give a feeling of luxury

The reception has a young lady working there called Lena and she is different class. I wasn't surprised to see her named "employee of the year" Well done Lena and all the staff who were fantastic.

The hotel is about two miles from the main centre of Funchal although it is quite a pleasant walk with only one hill on the way back. Taxis cost between four euros and eight euros depending on the time of day. After ten o'clock in the evening they switch off the meter and can charge you what they like. Be warned!!
