Visitors to Palm Springs should be aware of a couple things when visiting this fair city. Being an outdoors type of community, tourists hiking in the mountains or out in the desert sun should be aware that the temperature can go as high as 120 degrees in the summertime. Be sure to keep plenty of fluids on hand in order to stay hydrated. Also wear a hat, use plenty of sun screen, and don’t over do it. Heat stroke is no fun and can quickly ruin a vacation. Also in the wintertime, flash floods are a very real possibility. Evidence of such can be seen at the base of the tramway off highway 111.

When visiting the desert, remember it is a “living” desert. Precautions should be taken not to accidentally step on something dangerous, like a poisonous snake or scorpion. Also, just because something looks dead doesn’t mean it still cannot hook you literally. What may appear to be a dead piece of foliage can still contain a ball of spikes that will hook into clothing or worse still, unprotected skin and that can lead to a fairly painful experience. So unless a person wants to spend time pulling sharp objects out of hands, arms, legs or other body parts, a little caution will go a long way.
